Not a great catch, but nice nonetheless. A pair of Miyata Triplecrosses. They're in pretty good shape and only cost $100 for the pair.

Here's the most recent n+1. Will turn into a great commuter for inclement weather days, Was hanging in a garage for the last 10 years, and the owner can no longer ride it due to balance issues. Cleaned a small part of the top tube to check the level of oxidation in the paint, and to my surprise, it still shines as if it was new. Only a couple of nicks and scratches near the chainstays, and the tires are dry rotted to the point of no return, overall a great bike at a great price, wait for it...free. |

nice bike btw |
Yesterday I scored a Vitus Carbone 9 with late 80's Shimano 105 + it's original Super Record group + a modern Ultegra 10 group and some random tires, wheels, Ritchey bars and stems...$100. Everything is really dirty, but in the case of the Super Record group I think it actually help preserve it. The Vitus is also rough, with two joints that have come loose, but it's my size. I"m not sure what I want to do with it yet, but I beleive it could be repaired. I'll have to do some research.
I will lay it all out and take some pics later, after I get home. |
Nice catch on the Klein. I had the same color combo Aeolus myself. PO had rattlecanned it white. PITA getting that white paint off. Moved it to another home as it was the wrong size anyway.

This was not exactly in the dump, but my LBS had this on the sale table for a couple of weeks for $60 before I bought it. Turned out it was a Cyclone/3Rensho built Allez with no serial number;I didn't get a photo of the frame, but I had a Cannondale that was too small for me that I bought for the Super Record gruppo (less the derailleurs and shifters). I transferred the parts and bought some Nuovo Record derailleurs and shift levers. http://onespeedbiker.blogspot.com/20...zed-allez.html
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=285036 This is a photo of the offset fork that was unique to the Cyclone bikes (these Syncro shifters were quickly replaced). http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=285037 |
Here's my Black Friday special that I came across. Found this on Craigslist and picked it up yesterday. It's a 1988 Cannondale Black Lightning. As far as I can tell it is all original. The serial number is 58012988039. Meaning it is a 58cm, built on 1-29-1988 and it was the 39th one to be built. I know these are getting rare and I'd like to find out how many were built. This one is not a flipper it fits me perfect.

That's worth a heck of a lot more than $60. I'm surprised at how many times we hear about high value vintage bike/frames that come from bike shops, either thrown out or seriously discounted. Just last week we had the guy that got CA Masi, because his boss hates "Italian" bikes. Amazing. Enjoy your new ride. |

I picked up an old Falcon earlier this week. I think it's late 60's maybe early 70's. The frame is 531 and has some pretty cool lug work but it's a bit rough so I'm not sure what I'll do with it but the good news is that all of the components are Record. Currently I'm cleaning up parts and bagging everything and trying to get the freewheel off the hub...it's a bit stuck. LBS broke their tool and took a chunk out of the freewheel trying to get it off so I'm not sure if I'll have any luck but the hubs are Tipo's so hopefully I can salvage it.

I think for a lot of LBS peeps, vintage stuff is just "old".. shop owners don't keep up on the vintage market the way we do, so they might just price it compared to something new

For $30, I picked up a derelict Raleigh Technium, and rebuilt it comletely, pix below. I've had a chance to ride this rebuilt Technium for about 60 miles these last two days. I like the bike, it weighs in at just under 24 pounds, seems responsive but not nervous, and to me seems reasonably smooth on our chip-seal country roads, and very smooth on proper asphalt. I'm riding on Panaracer Paselas at 27x1 with about 105 psi. On my other bikes I run at 100 at the rear and 85-90 at the front, I will try this combo on the Technium next time. It does not seem to be a particularly stiff frame, but at my size and weight (6-8, 230) and with the long stem and seat, I can create a fair amount of torque on the 25" frame. I like it. Below; as it is now, and what I started with. http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...9&d=1351572413 http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...0&d=1351572590 |
Jehovah's Witness, that's huge! At your size, a 24 pound bike is just going to flex. I'm not sure there's much you can do, short of a custom frame.
I really like your paint job. I'm pretty sure they came in that color combination, so I was surprised to see it wasn't original. |
Picked up a cyclocross (2002 litespeed appalachian) frame/fork for half it's worth from the local cl :)
