Do we need a separate thread for "bikes I could have bought, but didn't?" This message is full of them. Apologies for the cellphone pics.
Spotted, but didn't buy this unidentified French beastie (Peugeot, Gitane??) covered in silver spray paint. Price was $30, and I could have used the Mafac levers, bars and possibly the hubs, but the paint job bummed me out, so I left it. http://www.boomspeed.com/artoflaw/incoming/misc_01.jpg http://www.boomspeed.com/artoflaw/incoming/misc_02.jpg Also spotted this lovely Bob Jackson in my size at the flea market on offer for $300, but the componentry was a nothing special, and it had one more wheel than I'm accustomed to: http://www.boomspeed.com/artoflaw/in...jackson_01.jpg http://www.boomspeed.com/artoflaw/in...jackson_02.jpg |
Interesting front brake(s) ...

Dang.. If I had the cash, I totally would've picked up the Bob Jackson. Always wanted one of those old racing trikes...
|
Yes indeed, one Mafac Racer, and a Mafac cantilever behind it. The extended mount for the front brake is integrated with the fork crown. There are photos of similar trikes in this thread with the same arrangement.

Just to continue the Prelude thread, I just finished cleaning up the Prelude I got in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago. I really liked how this one turned out! It came with the pink bottle holders and cage straps. But it had the old black, hard as a rock, grip foam. I just got the pink bartape in today off fleabay. ITs a 19 inch (48cm) frame size. I don't have a pink seat around, so a black seat is it.

Found a 1999 cannondale T700 Caad2 on Kijiji, Missing front brake, saddle and saddle mounting bolts.. Paid $170 Cad. Brifters were completely gunked up, but i WD-40'd them *****es and now they are clicking perfectly smooth. Its pretty darn impossible to get inside that racheting mechanism as the derailer cable was stuck inside. Rear rim has 1 popped spoke. And i also completely took the bike apart and cleaned it. It is now sitting safely in storage LOL.
It came with Shimano RSX 3/8 speed Brifters and deore LX 8 Speed RD, and Shimano RSX F/D Rear hub is a shimano Deore, front hub is Shimano STXRC Not exactly sure what my plan is in regards to this bike, but its a pretty sweet frame and ive always wanted a cannondale! http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6761/87293b20.jpg http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/518/96987dc20.jpg http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/9088/0815lnh20.jpg |

gianni motta personal 2001r with some pantographed parts and 50th anniversary shifters. Most parts would be mint or near mint if it wasn't for some genius cops who convinced the previous owner it would be a good idea to have them engraved in case the bike got stolen. Most of you would think i'm crazy to pay this kind of price for a flipper , so i won't tell.
Pictures of the bikes as i got it (computer and plastic bar tape removed though) , needs to be cleaned. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2711/...e4ac8cb1_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4026/...2d7413f9_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4028/...f2bc949f_b.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4070/...501d3387_b.jpg |
93 RB-1 Missing a brifter. Gonna change it over to bar end shifting. Sadly, it has some rust but it is complete and was a okay deal.

fess up, who here bought it? |
Well, I went on another bike seeking road trip today. Primary focus was the Falcon Sterling, Reynolds 531C frameset, and all Sante parts. The best piece is the Shimano pedals with Sante clips. I have not seen them before.
I also chased after a couple of MTB frames to use up my pile of MTB donor bikes. Seller also had a Trek 330 road bike, with just a "little" problem. Ended up bringing it home as well, I can't pass on a steel Trek road bike with a reasonable price, even one that needs an assist. The snow is gone in these pictures only because they were taken in South Carolina. We still have plenty of snow in the mountains of NC. At least I recharged the bike fund earlier in the week by moving a couple of bikes to their new homes. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2802/...2af7ac5512.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2693/...5729fe04_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4059/...4f15285c6f.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4013/...94923064_o.jpg |

What's up with that rear wheel on the Trek? Looks like part of the flange is broken. -Gene- |

No I don't think they're original. Specs say indexed downtube shifters. If anyone has DT shifters for braze-ons for a 6-speed Shimano S.I.S. that you wouldn't mind parting with, I might want to talk to you...

Still quite a bit of snow in Central NC. Enough that UPS hasn't been delivering to my house for two days (package was supposed to get here yesterday and didn't get here today). That's really beginning to piss me off.

OMG! I have seen these on here once or twice before. I would love to have one!

The Trek looks like it just needs a good bath and a new home :) |
Very nice catch on the Falcon wrk101, way to go!!
My flea market trip on Sunday netted this box of heavyweight cruiser junk for $5, I mainly wanted the chainring bolts from the cottered Raleigh crank (buried in the first pic,) the rest was a bonus :) Also got a crusty Norex 39 saddle, an interesting inverted-clamp steel stem, a bunch of coaster brake innards, a few sets of old rubber block pedals, some interesting sparkly rubber grips, etc... http://www.boomspeed.com/artoflaw/in...rts_box_01.jpg After a dip in the degreaser, it looks like a few eBay lots... http://www.boomspeed.com/artoflaw/in...rts_box_02.jpg These still need a bath: http://www.boomspeed.com/artoflaw/in...rts_box_03.jpg |
I've been looking for another MTB to blast around on the trails, and an ad for a Specialized came up on CL last night with no model and bad photos:
http://www.boomspeed.com/artoflaw/incoming/rh_07.jpg Went by this afternoon and got a battered but functional early-90's Rockhopper. Not pretty, but plenty of character (in the form of missing paint...) Mostly stock, plus some Scott aero bars. :o http://www.boomspeed.com/artoflaw/incoming/rh_01.jpg |
KtownDougie: Since you think that bike may have been stolen, have you checked with the police if it has been reported?
Does anyone else who finds or buy bikes for really cheap check if they are stolen? Scott. |

What distinguishes those clips from the common 105 clips? I'm not seeing it in the photo.

The thrift stores in my area have been pretty lame lately when it comes to any cycling stuff or bikes. I did find this jersey at Goodwill today for $4.00. It's crazy how excited I was to finally find something worth picking up. It doesn't look like it's ever been worn.

The pedals are the regular 105 design. The clips are the gold/grey color that matches the vinyl parts on Sante components, like the top ring on the headset. I am not sure they are Sante, but they sure are a match. Shimano never had Sante pedals. The straps are also a gray/gold color, rather than white or black.

The other interesting thing about these pedals is that parallelogram extender that is clipped/screwed on (? can you take it of if you unscrew the retaining plate?) the retainers just underneath the toe cage (looks like metal.) Haven't seen anything like it.

I got a set just like that off of an RX100 bike last year. One clip was broken, though...
