Normally, people demand pics. I'd like to instead demand a poem composed on this subject... come on... there has to be one in that metaphor somewhere!....

Finally got a catch of the day, and on Ebay no less!
Park PCS-4 Deluxe

$80, $105 shipped! Not bad considering they're going for between $230 - $260 before shipping. Brand new in an unopened box. The seller just listed it with a $100 BIN. I gave a "best offer" of $80 expecting it to be rejected but much to my surprise..

After a long dry spell in the COTD dept., I finally land one. I responded to a CL that was posted last Sunday night after 9pm, and picked up a Ritchey Outback on Monday morning. I had called the guy at 10pm and he said he had three other calls after mine Sunday night and a bunch more early Monday before pulling the ad.

Haven't had a chance to pull the BB cable guide to record the serial # yet, but it appears to be an '88 and mostly original, although I don't recognize the large replacement chain ring.

Fresh (besides a little pigeon poo) from a friend's barn for free:
Raleigh Tourist 1977-8:

What I do know is: SA 3-spd, rod brakes, "Raleigh 20-30 Tubing" with some very plain lugs, Brooks B66 in shockingly good condition, frame pump that seems
to hold air (!), 28" tires, and a pretty unique fork crown. How would you rate this find?
{Update} Hub shell says "77", and it has a Minnesota 1978-1980 bike license sticker. There ya go. Amazing what a little detective work can do.

It should be stamped in the rear hub shell, a two digit code. I would bet that it is a 60's-70's based on the hockey stick chainguard
That looks like maybe a model DL-1, but I am not sure, great find though, I love the rod brakes.

Bikes: Focus trash find commuter, Eddy Merckx Corsa, BP Stealth TT bike, Leader 720 TT bike, Boardman Comp Hybrid drop bar conversion, Quantec CX budget cyclocross build, SerottaNOS frameset ready to build up!

Absolutely no C&V status, but I picked up this brand new 48cm aluminium KTM race frame for my wife this week on ebay.de

I had given up looking for something in her size with a bit of history to it, and just got this one instead.

Price: €30 shipped. Don´t think I did too bad.

It´ll be built up with Shimano 8-speed, conventional STI shifters, with a set of 3T Tiramisu bar extensions (in the frame colour) for her first triathlons.

Sorry to post it here, but as C&V is my ´home´on BF I thought I would. Pics to follow when it´s all finished and shiny.

:EDIT: arrived, safely despite minmal packing, the wife is pleased with the colour and it´s as advertized, so I`m happy too!

I'd rate that one pretty damn good! I'd love to find a vintage Raleigh like that one. I keep looking. I can only hope...

It's not C&V, but it went on my C&V bike.
I got a brand new Shimano Ultegra seatpost (SH-6600) for $36 shipped. Considering they for roughly $100 + shipping, I think I did pretty darn good

Don't have a picture yet, but I just got home from picking up a Puch Meteor Lux Series III mixte. Has light rust on a lot of the chrome and some rusty spokes, but it was only $10. Thinking I will swap out an alloy wheel set from the basement, do the clean up and see what I have.

It looked like I was opening up space -- I sold one tonight, but how nature hates anything that looks like a vacuum, or an open space in the garage or basement.

Hey Ben, I can't wait to see pics of the Puch, i'm glad that you got it. I had my eyes on that, did he have it listed as "make me an offer"? I saw that it was sitting and sitting and sitting, so I figured his idea of offer was depreciating fast.

There is a Philips 3 speed that I may pick up this weekend, it's even got the cool philips chain ring.

Sorry about missing the mountain bike, I was sleeping when you sent the email.

Yay! What an awesome bike... a lot like my DL-1. It looks to be in wonderful shape. Ebay value of $200-600 if you wanted to flip it. (I just can't bear the thought of letting my DL-1 go, but when I got my 1966 model I checked completed ebay sales to get that number.)

EDIT: Here's a thread I started about my DL-1. I learned a lot from the BF crowd in that thread.

That bike will cleanup great. How round are the wheels? Have you tried out the brakes yet? Be careful because rod brakes are not as effective as calipers, but if the wheel is out of round, there will be strong pulsing that feels like you're going over the handlebars! My DL-1 is an incredibly smooth-riding bike though; feels like a Cadillac. DL-1s have a very long wheelbase, about 4" longer than a typical bike.

And if it needs new tires check out this recent thread.

Although the rents are high in Newport they aren't as high as in SanFran. it has an very rusty chain I doubt it has been ridden in years. I think those are the OME tires.

So it looks to be an '81 model, with Suntour 7 RD and steel (1010 -- keep that sissy chromoly out of here )just about everything. Light rust, that should clean up pretty well. Thinking of putting alloy wheels on it and perhaps an alloy crank set. I am trying to use up spare parts from the basement.

He had this listed for $40 for a few weeks and then re-listed at $25. I went to look and was going to pass and he said, how about $10. Not the deal of century, but OK.

Picked this up on Craigslist last night for $80.

A 198? Lotus lugged double-butted chromo. SR stem & handlebars & seatpost. Shimano 600 abaresque front & rear der. as well as shifters. Shimano 600 cranks & hubs & brake calipers & levers. Blackburn Rack. Silca frame pump w/ campy head that works pefectly. 700c Ukia rims....Pretty much EXACTLY what I've been looking for for a loooong time This is the touring bike of my dreams

The guy i bought it from said he got it from a friend who's garage he helped clean out & he didn't need a "racing" bike so he put it up on C-list for a "fair price" fair? I feel like I robbed the guy! I was just at home on my lunch break & was looking through c-list & the bike was on there with a small pic & hardly a description: "really nice bike" that's all it said. so i didn't really know what to expect. He called me while I was at work & apparently I was the first to respond to the add so he held it for me until i got there a few hours later. He said like 15 people had responded, but being first he held on to it for me. Great Guy

Anyways, here's some pics. I haven't done a thing yet. This is exactly as I picked it up!! just tiny rust speckles on the headset & pretty grimey from sitting in a garage for years. It will shine up quite nicely. No dings, or scratches at all! I'm so psyched about this.

thanks for looking & any guesses to the model year would be hugely appreciated!

-Nick

May be a legend. Here is a scan and it looks like it may have came in that color. There is a components sheet in the scans too, but pretty hard to read. You can make out the 600 stuff though.

Was it the one from Noblesville on Indy CL?

Cleveland Ohio CL. The guy had some other things he was selling too. It seemed like someone who found stuff in the trash, at job sites (he might have been some sort of a contractor) or maybe at sales cheap, and he wanted his garage space back.
