Damn, that's cheap for $20, I've seen those on e-bay go for $650. I own a 84 660 with the same color scheme and of course the same color cables. I bought mine new in 84 as a frame/fork set to replace one that got twisted up. I had the 660 adorned with Suntour Superbe. I retired the bike this year in an attempt to preserve the components, and plan on getting it repainted maybe next summer or the following summer, I'm not in a rush since I have other bikes to ride. I raced and trained on that bike for 4 years, then rode it almost everyday for fitness; the California sun tore up the decals and the paint after 21 years of that abuse. But it's a fantastic riding bike, I hope it fits you and you ride it. I assume your's has to be either a 84 or 85 since those were the only two years that color was made for the 660.

By the way the derailleurs, if their Shimano 600's were not original on either year bike; in 84 the derailleurs were Campy New Record and nothing Shimano on the entire bike; in 85 they used Ofmega Mistral, and the only Shimano component on that year bike was the Shimano 600 pedals. I assume then you must have an 85 and the Shimano 600 part you were talking about is the pedals?

But you made a fantastic find; even if the components weren't all original I would have bought it fast anyways!!!

Nice bike, it is indeed in great shape. The derailleurs are not original equipment the factory put on stock, at some point a owner swapped out the Ofmega derailleurs for the Shimano 600. Shimano 600 is Ultegra which isn't bad stuff of course. I own several classic cars, thus my thoughts are always toward preserving the original parts, which is just me. But I would try to find the original derailleurs off E-bay...but again, that's the way my brain is wired.

Just picked this up over the weekend at a Hospice Thrift store. It is a Madsen KG271. This is after cleaning it up. The tub was spray painted with graffiti and it still needs some more cleaning. Pretty high quality components. SRAM X-5 8 speed, Brooks B67 saddle and mechanical disc brakes on the front. I usually do not say what I pay for stuff, but I picked this up for $80. http://s225.photobucket.com/albums/d...adsen%20KG271/

1. That's awesome.
2. My initial reaction was that the back was something to haul goods, not people. In fact, I was thinking of those live seafood boxes. You could haul fish in that thing!

brandenjs 12-19-11 09:29 PM

Yea, I'm thinking packing it full of beer and ice. :) It has a weight limit of 600 lbs.

Well, I guess you're hosed. That will only start a party.

Ride it to the local hockey rink to fill up with the zamboni shavings behind the rink, then ride it to the beer distributor.

brandenjs 12-19-11 09:41 PM

Now we're talkin' !! It just looked like a lot of fun. I didn't pick it up on Saturday, but I went home and looked it up online (http://www.madsencycles.com/) and saw that they are pretty good quality. The saddle is worth what I paid for it. It looks like someone tagged a curb because the rear wheel has a pretty good dent in it and someone tried to fix it. No big deal. 20" recumbent wheel.

TimmyT 12-19-11 10:10 PM

You might load that up with something not so valuable. It might be completely unstable. Are there any reviews for this thing on the web?

brandenjs 12-19-11 10:17 PM

Yes there is. I found a couple of blogs that go over it. The history is pretty cool. I haven't ridden anyone or anything so I'll have to report back after that.

I honestly thought that was a bike-powered washing machine when I first saw it.

himespau 12-20-11 06:06 AM

That looks like a perfect grocery getter to me. I probably would have picked it up for the Brooks alone (I'm building a mixte for my wife that's going to have a honey b67 on it when I get around to buying one) so the rest would have been a bonus for me..

Yard sale finds..:). I used to limit my addiction to only Schwinns, but in the past couple of years, I have been grabbing the cherry ones. I don't have a problem revealing the prices. That to me is the story in itself. Usually I pay the asking price if it is fair.

These two Fujis. Both for $25.00

Scored this Georgena Terry for $10.00

Viscount Sebring $5.00

1978 Speedster $10.00
http://www.jims59.com/fs/images/Bicy...eedsterRt1.jpg

1980s Simoncini Professional, Columbus tubing, all Campy - Didn't steal this one. Paid $350.00 - But it is pretty much new.
http://www.jims59.com/fs/images/Bicy...moncini_rt.JPG

1983 Raleigh Prestige - Too tall for me but I ride it anyway. I paid maybe a little too much at $200.00 but it had new Bontrager hardcase tires and is very nice, almost perfect paint, never been dropped. Has a Campy crank-set from a DeRosa
http://www.jims59.com/fs/images/Bicy...restige_01.jpg

Bridgestone RB-2 - $20.00 - Scratches and abrasions, lots of miles, but complete and decent. Too small for me so I sold it to a friend in Cali.

I traded a motorcycle helmet for this really old Italian Torpado.. Very cool OLD CAMPY. I had it hanging on the wall for a couple of years and sold it on the net for crazy money. (sold for 750.00)

that fuji ace is sweet looking.

I found this in the garbage last summer. It is not the nicest bike, but it has been a great learning/project bike for me since I am not worried about screwing up anything. :) Pretty much everything was frozen up when I found it- covered in thick grease and grime, the hub didn't shift at all, etc.. So I cleaned it all out, replaced all the bearings and am planning on attempting to stud my own tires for winter. Wee!

(The rear fender is just resting there for the pic!)

You could probably get back most of what you spent on that bike, by selling that crank on ebay. Some very good finds/buys. Welcome aboard.

Recycle Rescue

Picked up two identical (size, colors, components, amount of rust and rot, everything) Shogun Sport mixte bikes propped up at the metal recycle drop area of my local garbage transfer station. I'm not a bike collector or restorer, but I know there's a better way than crushing and melting to recycle these! Frames are straight, paint is good, so I'm planning to donate them to the Portland OR Community Cycling Center so they can find a new rider. Hope I'm not wasting their time with junk? I'll call before I drop them off; if these bikes are farther gone than they want to tackle, maybe they will become my first project. (I'm afraid though that could be the start of a new addiction, I've read a lot of your posts in this thread, LOL!)

At the co-op where I volunteer, those two would be most welcome. 90% of what we get are dept store junk mountain bikes. Nice classic japanese road bikes like these are much appreciated, even if they are lower end ones that need a lot of work.

Good to know, thank you.

By the way, that wouldn't happen to be a specimen of this very model I see you riding in your avatar, would it?
