Thats the better spot on the underside of the top tube.
Cable guides are rusted up. At the very minimum the top tube has to be repainted and part of a chain stay. I just dont think the paint can be patched so for it to look right it will need a complete repaint.

Picked up the Moulton from my friend and he tossed in some new 16 inch alloy wheels and a 60 tooth sprocket... had the option of the FW, W, or a 2 speed and went with the stock FW hub.

Bike is loaded up for the ride home and have some great before pictures, if you like piles of parts, and once I get a few small missing bits will be able to look at rebuilding the bike into a drop bar racer rather than an upright townie.

My pile of parts... also received a new 60 tooth ring in a 110 bolt circle.

This is the direction I plan to take with it... my friend has a Mk2 that looks almost exactly like this and it is a badass ride.

Great score Sixty! I've been thinking about doing a drop bar modification to my Mk III also. Check out tipraider's resto/mod work for another cool example: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tipraid...n/photostream/

Should have taken a few pictures of my friend's cave... he has an incredible collection of beautifully restored and modified Moultons and the next time I stop by will get some good pictures.

He is one of the most brilliant men and mechanics I know... does amazing work and only has one regular sized bike... a 50's Royal Enfield 3 speed which is also stunning.

I would really try to find someone to paint that top tube. The decal work on that Fuji is pretty special, I would hate to lose all of it (losing the decal on the TT would not be so bad). Opus III is on my short list of possible keepers.

Maybe not, go to a car paint shop that mixes their own colours, get them to do a colour match for you. Use natural divisions as paint edges, for example if it's a lugged frame, use the lugs as dividing lines, in other words you mask off the lugs then strip, prime and paint the tube. It's very hard to tell a slight colour variation at a natural dividing line, because people think that it's because of the dividing line. You could also do a thorough cleaning and wax strip on the rest of the paint, then give the whole frame a clear coat, test on your bar your stripping though, to make sure the clear coat is compatible with the existing paint. This will make the differences even less noticeable and will protect the remaining decals.

That would be the ideal thing but the seat and top head tube lug are involved. Then there is the BB and chain stay. Lot involved areas.
I have wanted a high end Fuji for a while after a to small Del Rey and Katifuls Fuji build threads. I almost passed on this one because of the rust and missing parts (SuperBee crank and gold rims). Finally got the guy down to a price that if I can't save the frame I can sell the parts and come close to breaking even. so I am giving it a shot. Rides wonderful.

The suspension and rear block are still in fine shape... and spares are still available if they ever need replacement. The frame is sound and the rear fork is also in fine shape without any noticeable wear to the pivot.

This is a weak point on these bikes but can be easily repaired if you happen to have a the right tools... my friend also got a free Moulton Mk1 that will need a little work to the tail but it is in otherwise complete and rideable condition.

Picked up something interesting yesterday.

Lead in: I have a Mountain bike made commuter for bad weather (when you want the warm gloves so bulky that operating a brifter is not easy) and single track. Due to the top tube length I've really not been happy with it in that roll even after trying many different bar and stem combinations.

I ran across a ad for a 1984 Trek 890 frame and fork. Its a one year only model and was marketed as "created specifically for the urban canyon". The Geometry is not the same as the other "all terrain bike" its a little shorter top tube, and a little closer to the Touring bikes main triangle geometry. Interesting slope crown fork for 26 inch wheels. It came with Panasonic 1.5 radials.

My take is it was a bike more targeted audience as something along the lines of a Bridgstone XO's.

I also picked up a set of brand new Tan side wall 26x1.5 Pasela TG's from the same seller. I think its going to be outfitted like a Bridgestone XO with Mustache style bars (probably Origin 8 Tiki) with bar ends since its missing so much of its original components. I have a LX drivetrain that would work well on it. Maybe a bit of a Constructeur flavor to the build with the VO stainless fenders. I have that nice Baggins bang and front rack I picked up last week and it would be a good fit on this frame and polish up the Blackburn rack I have for the back.

The price was right and as long as I can come up with few more good deals on used parts (mostly wheels but I may have that covered as well) I should be able to sell it for what I have in it if I dont find I love it.

I've never heard of that model, I'll bet it's very uncommon. Excellent find Grim!

Very Cool, Grim. It's a 1984 model(the only year of the 890), according to the catalog scans

I guess my house, like many others here I'm sure, has become the Home of Misfit Bikes. A friend just dropped off these two bikes.

First up is a 24" wheeled Fuji Junior. Based on the serial number it dates from 1977. It has a bit of surface rust, but is complete.

Second up is a Ross Mt Hood. I haven't dated it but with the Bull Moose bars, it must be from the mid-80's. regardless of the age, I can tell it is a hi-tech bike. It says so on the top tube.

I have the same Ross. I bought it, a GT Aggressor, '64 Schwinn Racer, and 4 other cheaper bicycles all for $70.00 from a guy who goes to those container sales. Fixed and traded the Schwinn for a new Park shop stand, fixed sold the Aggressor for $175, fixed and sold the others for total of $250. Kept the Ross for my commuter. Pretty good deal!

Nice use of the barter system. I'll likely fix these up and flip them. But it will be a while as I am neck deep in other projects.

I am unsure that there is much market for a small road bike like this Fuji.

You may find the Fuji will move real guick...quicker than the other bikes! Great bike for a boy getting tired of his MTB bike. Young women love these smaller framed bikes, too! Allows them to keep up with their husbands, boyfriend, kids without buying an "expensive, new" bike! A lot of women don't like to spend money on themselves and don't really care or see why one bike is better than another. This allows her a good, rideable, capable cruiser! Good Luck!

I picked up a 1995 Trek 930 today at a LBS for $75. It's in really good shape but could use some new cables. I really would have been excited if it didn't have the Rock Shox fork on it. I want to do a build with a rigid fork. The only reason I was in the shop today was I was looking for a rigid fork for a Trek 970 I want to build. So, now I need two rigid forks.

Wish I was close to you. I think that Fuji would be perfect for my daughter; replace the drops, maybe convert to an internal hub, fattest tires I can fit on the rims (all assuming I can learn how to do all this on the fly!).

OK I'm done with the personal collection for the rest of the year.

This bike showed up on CL for a great price. I saw it and really wanted it. Luckychow99 beat me too it but gave me a good price on it so I'm happy to have ended up with it after all. I thought it was gone for ever.

The SN says its a 82 730 61cm. The 730 was the model number for a bare frame.
The color is not original but my favorite color has always been orange so I'm thrilled with it and after watching Drillium Dudes build of his Orange Davidson I cant wait to really do a nice build on it.

It has Super record Stickers on it and I feel safe in assuming it had a full Group. It still has Super Record brakes, seat post, head set and front hub. It also has Suntour bar ends, Cinelli bars and Stem. Crank is a Suntour Cyclone wit ha record FD and a Crane RD.

Couldn't wait to play with it and I was in the shop pulling out some parts I had been holding onto for a while as soon as I got home. I threw Cyclone 6000 Derailleur set on it to replace the gummed up Crane. Had a brand new set of Michelin Erillium 2 I had picked up for a bike that I sold before they were mounted.
Excuse the pictures with the clutter background. My camera also has the knack of making things look worse then they are when using the flash.
