Well, #0000 does absolutely NOTHING to chrome. Harsh chemicals now, there's a topic for discussion. I stand behind my suggestion. I have stripped and steel wooled several chrome bikes, not one of which experienced the rust "roaring back". It will rust again, because it's already pitted. Now, these pits, do you really want to introduce an acid into that equation? It will not only soak into the pores, but past that and under the chrome? Just my humble opinion of course. Use what you want, and I'll use what I want.,,,,BD
This bike was stripped of its dull scratched clearcoat, then cleaned up with #0000. It does not scratch chrome, period. End of story. You must be thinking of the super coarse steel wool? In case you have never bothered to look at it, #0000 it so soft it feels like a cotton ball..

WV is not flat..
Picked up this 1980 SR Semi-Pro with full 600 Arabesque group. The frame is pretty rough, but I have been looking for this groupo for awhile. Needs a little cleaning, but it's not too bad.

Pair of Raleigh Sports from yesterday.
You'll see a baby seat mentioned on the sales receipt. The baby that sat in that seat is the guy who sold us these (his parent's) cycles.

^ CL find? Lucky you saw it before me. I just did a "tubular" search this morning. I would have jumped all over that.

Just eight months prior to the date on that receipt I picked up my Zeus Pro just up the street from that store, at the Inside Edge Ski & Bike. Wish I still had it.

Saved from the Dumpster at Steet Level Cycles Berkeley ca 1972 Mercier
I was passing by the Street Level Cycles workshop and spied the pretty Lugs on a vintage Bike beckoning me from the sheet metal dumpster in front. I like her and brought her home setting her up to enjoy the beauty through the patina. The Brilliant blue was trying to shine through the badly flaking clear coat that is taking some of the decals as it flakes off. I am not sure why it was thrown out perhaps because of the rusty crank set. It has a 1973 City of San Francisco license remaining. Pitty it is too large for me! 60cm. Still I collect the missing bits and get it going in any case.

^Nice score! Those Michelin tires are a pain in the neck to mount/remove though. I know, I've got two sets of the things...

thanks for the warning.. I just took a test ride and was actually pretty impressed with the tires.. (along with the rest of the bike ) i could feel a little resistance due to the tread but they still rolled for days and the side tread didn't seem to affect traction on hard surfaces. most tires i've tried with side knobbies feel sketchy in the turns
makes me want to get some nicer tires for my Univega

Grabbed this today. A 1981 Nishiki International. At least that is what I gathered from the serial # KA06819. It is a bit rough cosmetically and I think the rear der. has been replaced. The front is a Suntour which should have been original and the rear is a Shimano 400CX, but solid other wise. I really like the lugs on these bikes. The price was right also.
