Please tell us about glass-beading. I could use some mechanical help in cleaning stuff up. Is it expensive, what is required, how does it work?

He came over last week and offered it to me for free. The seat post was not seized all the parts rotate, the chain is a little tight. Shifter cables are pretty tight but do move the derailleurs. Going to take it completely apart this week and see how it goes. He told me that he did not ride it very much and that it was very expensive when new.
The seat post in the photo is after I glass-beaded it. It was pretty corroded but did come out without much effort.

Bikes: Yes, please.

Not the trashcan find the picture suggests; this was actually the seller's pic in his ad . It will appear in the Dutch Bike thread once I've cleaned it up.

The fork being turned 180 degrees suggests that it is bent. Weird configuration at best!

Bikes: 1979 Schwinn Traveler modernized

I just rescued this bike from the curb recently. It seems to be a road bike or hybrid with flat bars. 27" tires, aluminum rims. I have no clue what it is since there are no labels.

Bikes: 1963 Schwinn Corvette, 1991 Panasonic DX-2000, some beater MTB Craigslist special

1991 Panasonic $40 on Craigslist. One of the tires was so hard I had to cut it off the rim.

Here it is in its present state. Im waiting for the seat to come in, so it still has the tragic seat on it.
And Im waiting for the straps to come in for the pedals. And yes Im running BMX pedals

Interesting paint job, looks like it was well done from the photos, but the original paint didn't look all that bad either. What model Panasonic was it? Depending on the model the white paint job removed all vintage interest in that bike.

Wow! I just got one from a friend's older brother in about as close to perfect condition as you can hope for. I think that it literally has less than 150 miles on it. It's cool and has some odd touches like the three sets of water bottle bosses. Anyway, it's a little big for me so I'm going to sell it. We'll just say that I'm not asking $75 for it! In these parts (Seattle) Kleins in pretty rough shape go for several hundred. Congrats on your score!

Scored a nice little mixte for $20 yesterday. It is a true garage queen, it looks like it was ridden once and then put into the rafters for the next 30 years. It is a perfect fit for my mom, she had a 3-speed Raleigh but this mixte has 5-speeds so is more versatile for her.

edit: don't worry, I have already corrected the rear brake housing, it was just pulled through the frame all the way and just needed a tug at the front to lessen the slack

I picked up a Schwinn World for my coworker last month. It had some touch up spray paint on the top tube and lots of black splatter over spray. A friend wet sanded the frame and painted it with a blue metallic paint. I upgraded the drop bars, brake levers, crankset, and RD. The saddle, cables, housings, pedals, and tires are new. It's a 48cm - the coworker is about 5' tall.

Hard to call this POS a "catch", but the price was way low, bought it for the crankset and dustcaps, plus the Weinmann calipers. Does have alloy stem and bars.

Its a motorized Ted Williams! Wires running everywhere. Got to see how they attached the rear motor cog to the hub. A Free Spirit with internal routed rear brake, huh? Wild.

Your job is to adjust that reostat (sp?) on the fly.

Now to a more "normal" catch. Picked up this Merckx this afternoon, definitely not a garage sale price. We'll have to see how this turns out. First thing that has to go is the black tape/zip tie cable guides...

Did it come with the 1000-foot extension cord Jethro?

Its a DX-1000. Its hard to tell from that first pic, but Im pretty sure the bike had been laid down on its left side.

I wonder what type of motor that's hanging on there? I saw a youtube video of a better excuted creation using a similar set up with such a motor, and it seemed to have a lot of torque.

The video showed a front chainring attached to a freehub w/ disc brake mounting holes.

PO claimed to have gotten it up to 50MPH. Anything close to that would have been one scary ride. Stopping from that speed would have been treacherous.

My dream is this peach has a flip flop hub, won't know til I pull the rear wheel. Certainly the rear hub does not match the crappy stamped steel front hub. Most likely someone just drilled a couple random holes in the hub and attached that drive sprocket. We'll have to see.
