Quintana Roo Aerial (if I let it go I would probably keep all the nine speed DA stuff/move it to the Tommasini). Neither is vintage, both about the same age.

Cool. What's the saddle? And why are your brifters all googly eyed?

The saddle came off the Colnago, forget the model right now. It was the only one I had with some yellow on it....

Part of the STI appearance is the angle of the pic, although it looks like I need to level them out a bit. I always mess around with that when I have the bike on the rack, and don't always get them straight.

Looks like the right hand unit is higher than the left hand. Oh well, I needed to round up a shorter stem anyway....

Me too. More than once I've had to go back and realign them.
Nice Quintana Roo...I believe I PM'd you about it several months ago. I have an early 2000's Borrego (road geometry) that's one of my favorite bikes.

Bikes: Hampsten Disco-Pig, Ritchey Road Logic Disc, All-City Super Professional

I just picked up this 1997 Klein Stage for free from a friend's older brother who wanted it out of his garage. It's in amazing, nearly unused condition but the shifters need to be de-gunked (they don't do anything right now), the hubs need attention, and I need to reattach the front DT shifter boss to the frame. On these bikes there's a screw that goes through the frame to hold both bosses on along with some help from epoxy. Is it vintage? No, but it is a pretty interesting bike and a precursor of things to come in a lot of ways. The main tubes are massive as are the chainstays. Even though this was Klein's cheapest road bike it is still very nicely built (in Chehalis, WA I believe). Oddly enough, the Stage has 3 sets of bottle bosses and an extra boss on the back of the seat tube which I assume is for a fender - there's not a ton of room but I can probably fit 25mm tires and narrow fenders on. The short reach brakes have the pads at the bottom of the slots. This bike also has a triple which in addition to the extra bottle mount (under downtube) feels incongruent with a bike built with such large diameter aluminum tubing and pretty average looking angles. It's clearly not a touring bike. Anyway, I think that the Kleins are classics in their own right and I'm happy to have gotten this one. If it rides well I'll probably do a few upgrades with stuff I have laying around. Oh, and the red on this bike is AMAZING!

I was just browsing ebay tonight looking for a Klein. I've heard nothing but good things about them...free ones especially.

Colnago Master Lite:

Great looking Colnago. In my minds eye when I compare the Colnago with the Quintana, the Quintana looks too industrial whereas the Colnago looks like a piece of art and that's why I would keep it.

I got a green stepthru Specialized Hardrock mtb today.. looks like very late 80s/early 90s. it was on the back of my friends car rack... i was like what're you doing with the bike. She's all it's going to goodwill, why you want it? I was like yeah!

Needs a lil tuning and trigger shifters seem messed up but should clean up nicely.. gonna give it to some friends who have no car and need transportation badly

CL has been a bust this entire year around where I live, I find bikes worth about $25 to $50 going for $115 to as much as $250. I pity those living in the Chicago area, their prices are just whacked, I've seen bikes worth $50 starting at $200 and go up from there, and they must be selling them because the keep pushing high prices like this low end Fuji Sport: https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/bik/3109335458.html.

Looks like a Turbo-matic saddle. Nice job on the bar tape and cable color, looks cool!

The Dura Ace AX has some odd looking brake calipers. The FD is Campagnolo and not sure about the seat post yet. Record hubs with Mavic rims. Someone has ridden it pretty recently, the tires are fairly new. It has some rust spots but no dents. I think it will be a fun project and it's my size.

Great find, that is the only Japanese bike I'm looking for. If you decide to sell it keep me in mind.

I am not really sure who made it or sold it originally but judging from the stock parts, it was a fairly low end folder and I have since tweaked out a few things and have found it to be a really enjoyable and rather quick and nimble bike. Replaced the tyres, crank, freewheel, rear derailleur, saddle, and seat post and in doing this knocked 4 pounds off the bike.

Have been riding it all over the city for the past week.

It also has a rather decent fold.

If the bikes are selling for $200, doesn't that mean they are worth $200? Just because it isn't worth that much to you, doesn't mean they aren't worth it to others.

High prices are the norm in most bike hotspots. You just need to catch a deal at the right time if you want a below market price on a craigslist bike. You don't see low prices on lots of bikes because those are the ones that sell... the ones you see listed above what you think they are worth likely aren't selling and that's why they are still listed.

This has to be one of the "all time" best bike forum threads. It amazes me as to the great bikes you guys find. Hell, that Campy Record seatpost on the Masi is worth over a hundred bux. I guess I need to get up real early for those tag sales if I want to score like you. My best CL find, and only, is a '87 FAT CHANCE KICKER I got for a good price. I did go look at a low end Pogliaghi, but that thing was very rough.

Pretty much any time I go on vacation with the car, I bring home bikes. Some of my best scores have been outside my area, on vacation.

Picked up a nice late 1980s Panasonic DX2000, a 1984 Schwinn LeTour Luxe, a Masi Gran Corsa, and a bike workstand. Then later I added a Raleigh mixte to the load. This is on top of the three bikes I brought along to do some riding, along with luggage, etc.

The Masi has unusual (at least to me) Bullseye cartridge hubs. The hubs are even color matched to the bike. It has mostly tricolor components, with a couple of Campy parts in the mix. Bike definitely needs major TLC. Naturally, the stem is stuck on it (a nice TTT, hopefully I can save it). All of the rest of the seat posts and stems are freed up and cooperating well.

The Panasonic was in the best shape. Please ignore the oddball angles on the handlebars. I was in the process of changing the orientation of all bars so I could squeeze seven bikes in the car. All bikes came with pedals, they were all removed to allow for loading as well.

FWIW: All the bikes were picked up at noon or later, so the local scoopers had plenty of time to bag all of them. Not sure why these bikes were still around. The Panasonic was even listed in the garage sale ad: "lightweight Panasonic racing bike", and it was marked with a very attractive price. I went back to the same town the next day (I was short of time), and that's when I bagged the MASI and bike stand....

Wow, that is nice. Are those the wheels it came with? I like the "pop" of the headset.

If you have any more of that green housing, the rear derailleur housing could be replaced. It would really "pop".

The problem with the green housing is that it is lined brake housing, so I figured it would not work with the Dura Ace STI. I did order a couple of lime green bottle cages, might keep the yellow one where it sits (yellow painted area) and the green on the green painted portion. The wheels were Ritchey C/L pickups, I got the bike without wheels (seller wanted a fair amounf for the wheels, which did not match, were in mediocre shape, and neither was original).

Yes, that's a red (deep red) Chris King headset. Picked that up years ago, came with a Look Bernard Hinault frameset. Stuff tends to work its way around my workshop. Figured it matched the red contrast on the fork crown, and the red head tube decal. That is one smooth headset. The original tricolor 600 HS was tired.

I'm thinking of pulling those Mavic decals off the fork. I understand they are not original, and nothing on the bike is Mavic.

Thanks, that MASI was in neglected condition, stuck stem (had to cut it out), broken spokes, rusty components, etc. But the profit on the workstand I picked up with it covered the MASI and the workstand, so it was a good day for sure. MASI is waiting for my next frame rust campaign, I need to get one going.

As I pointed out in my message, I did not get to those sales early at all. All three bikes were purchased at noon or later, one was DAY TWO of the sale. One was even clearly listed in the garage sale ad: "Panasonic racing bike" and it was priced low, really low. I was driving into town that day, so I got there as early as I could (started the day just north of Louisville, KY). I was sitting in my motel the night before, looked up garage sales close to my destination. Pretty frustrating, as I knew that Panasonic was going to be long gone. Had I been in town, you bet, I would have been in that guy's driveway at 7AM or earlier. But I took a 10 mile detour, just in case...

Why it was still there? Crazy. Then I picked up the Schwinn LeTour Luxe four blocks away, garage sale on the main drag, bike was sitting in the front, near the street. It also had a low price. All three were in neglected shape, but the Schwinn and Panasonic had excellent frame/paint/decal condition.

Bikes: Still a garage full

Geez, I went to probably 15 sales yesterday afternoon, during one of those community-wide garage sales. I should have known better; one of the less prosperous communities in the area, high unemployment, low income, limited disposable income. Nothing but junk. Some Huffys, Magna, and a Ross, PASS. I bought a half round file and yet another Scrabble board, $2 total.

Garage sales yesterday, no bikes (thats the norm). Did find a huge amount of painting supplies cheap (I will be painting the outside of my house shortly). Also picked up an unusual Seiko watch for $2. It had a dead battery. Looked it up on ebay. If it runs, they are going for $500 to $800, for parts, they are going for $75 to $100. I was hoping to just have a cool looking watch to replace my beat up, cheapie Casio. Well, that's not going to happen.

90% + of my best garage sales scores are not bikes. If I was just looking for bikes, I would have given up on garage sales long ago.

Great find Sixty Fiver. Thanks for the details. I have a Raleigh Twenty I really dislike. I haven't souped it up yet. You probably remember my mentions of it in the past. Maybe I'll work on it eventually.

We have to have a folding bike to ride the commuter train during rush hour. I've taken the Twenty a couple of times, but it's not a lot of fun, and it doesn't fold well at all. It takes up so much room I usually have to stand with it or over it for the whole ride.
