Have not really been looking but these came up locally, so I could not pass them up. I spent $250 on the lot.

Some people don't value vintage bicycles as much as we do. They sometimes sell what we would give our left arm for, for pennies. Or they may even throw them on the trash pile! Show us your screamin good deals, and the bikes you've saved from the compactor. Yes, make us all jealous, it only fuels our addiction more.

It has been way too long since I have found anything worth picking up, so this was a welcome sight on CL for $40. It is a 1980 Schwinn Voyageur 11.8. A little rough, but can be cleaned up. These were pretty high up on the list for Schwinn's back in that year. At least one of the more expensive ones.

Great riding bike, the Voyageur, although I've been riding mine in various stages of paint removal. Getting ready to replace rattle can paint with auto paint this spring, maybe.

I snatched this bike from a neighbor down the road. They've got a bunch of stuff out for sale, and I've passed this bike a million times, until this afternoon I finally broke down and bought it. It's a Raleigh Space Rider, and as far as I know it's a '78, 24" tires, i don't know how to figure anything else out to fix it up.. If I can get any help on where to find some parts and information on it I would be so grateful!

No road trip is complete without bringing home a bike or two. This time, its two plus a trainer.
The first is a 1996 Cannondale SR500 Silk Road. Not vintage or classic, but the market for Cannondales is great around here.
The second is a late 1980s Burley Duet Tandem. Looks great from a distance, up close, the frame tubes have quite a bit of surface rust. Nothing deep or troubling, but enough it will need a cleanup and repaint.
The Silk Road was on day FOUR of a garage sale, and the bike appeared in every ad.

^Hey Bill, what do you think of the C'dale's head-shock? I've always been intrigued with road bikes with front suspension...

Bill that Cannondale is really interesting with that fork. I guess it soaks up some road bumps assuming it doesnt have much travel just there to give you a nice smooth ride. I wonder how much pedaling energy is lost in the fork? Still a really neat looking bike for sure.
edit : and I see that the RD is a long cage design, but with what looks to be a fairly small range rear freewheel. It must be a touring model but the geometry looks fairly aggressive too....thats one interesting bike.

I am going to take it for a spin later. I was surprised how light the bike is (I need to put it on the scale). Usually, the addition of a front shock pushes weight up. For now, I will call it a gimmick.
I was also surprised with the relatively tight rear cassette, yet the small triple up front. Kind of a split personality on this one.
Picked up from original owner who just used it indoors with a trainer.

Bikes: Yes, please.
The PO had this sitting in his back yard and said he was going to throw it out. The remnants of the decals say it is a Plume Vainqueur, so I offered € 10 and became the new owner.

wow.. good job on that rescue.. .cool paint job, what technique did you use with that ? love the lugs.. the whole thing works really well...
#9691
actually it is not painted,i streep out the old paint chimicaly and i "rust" the frame !
i have my own technique to do this in a short time and whit diferent textures
RUSTY TECHNIQUE another frame>>>
process takes between 30 minutes to 5 days, depending on the texture you want to get

^I really like the way you incorporated the "patina" into your artistic restoration. I just sold a frame which the buyer will sandblast and powder coat. I think your frame would have suffered if you had done that. Now this old frame has so much more character!!

Picked these ladies up for a song lastnight, my brother loves my 75 raleigh sports, so when i spotted both of these for 150 bucks, i jumped at them,
they both need a ton of work, and the ladies frame maybe used for parts to get the superbe back in line... my brother doesn' t want a full resto just functional, but i want to cleanup the paint as much as possible,
anybody know what color touch up paint would match the raleigh green?

What model is my new Peugeot Mixte?
My latest CL cheapie, and also my first meekst. Anybody want to volunteer what model I have here, so as to avoid YET ANOTHER "pls i.d. my poojoe" thread?
It was originally a 5-speed, as evidenced by a single downtube shifter brazeon (drive side). Looks like it's been messed with over the years, with mis-matched Shimano thumbies, a double chain ring up front, Shimano FD, mis-matched wheel set and SIS freewheel. It still carries what I assume are the original fenders with integrated front and rear lighting(!) and rack. Brazeons for frame pump, rack and bottle generator mounting; cool stuff. Then there's the white plastic Mafac brake levers, something I've never seen before. Over all, a nicely equipped bike for boom era gaspipe. Serial # 1486000 appears on left dropout, headbadge is chromed pot metal with plastic lenses over the golden lion and Peugeot name.
Anybody know what year/model I have here? I can take better pix if anyone is interested.

I think it's a UE-18, and it was not originally a 5-speed. It had two shifters that mounted with one boss. The band went around the boss; the right shifter mounted on the boss. The band had its own boss on the left for the left shifter.

Click and Clack, the funny car guys said there are three types of engine configurations: there's front engine with a rear wheel drive. There's rear engine with rear wheel drive. And there's front engine with front wheel drive. As far as we know, there has never been a car with rear engine and front wheel drive, but if anyone ever produced it, it would be the French.
