A lady called me and asked if we wanted one of those Raleigh 20 bicycles, adding that it had been in storage for the past 40 years.... it was a 9.9 / 10 and rarely have I seen a nicer example than this and the colour is splendid.
http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikepics/adrian20.jpg All I had to do was wipe a little dust off it and give it a sip of oil and it went home with my friend who has been looking for one for a while. |

I'm a newbie to this forum. I bought this 1970 Schwinn Super Sport from CL last week for $25. I've always wanted a vintage Schwinn ever since my brothers bought the Varsity back in 1964. Unfortunately that bike got stolen. I replaced a few parts, took out the rust, and made a few adjustments. It rides like a dream.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=369936

You got a nice deal and a great looking bike.

This one came out of someones truck in pieces at the end of a swap meet few weeks ago. So in honor of the first day of spring....
Putting the finish touch on this 90 Schwinn Traveler. Still missing the proper rear DR but found a temp for it for now. Came with full Shimano indexed 300EX group sans rear. Cleaned up nice and will use it as my beater, foul weather group ride bike. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=370004http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=370005With a recent white Regal from e fellow BF'er to match the original white tape, cable, decals and bottle cage. Paint is called Atlantic blue, just a few nicks. Back from the shakedown ridehttp://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=370006http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=370007 |

This traveler feels lite for it's size. Sticker says double butted Cro-Mo frame and fork USA made Tru Temper So I'm happy with the quality. And it rode nice. Waiting on the 300EX DR to hopefully show up.

finally, after 2 years of seeing this univega sit outside leaning up against a shed, i was given permission to take it. Yeah, its a cheap gaspipe frame, but it bugged the hell out of me seeing it just sit there. And its my size. I was suprised that nothing was stuck or rusted, it cleaned up pretty nice, and will make a nice commuter on my 3 block ride to work. Everything it needed i had laying around, so no money invested at all in this thing, other than i need to get some bar tape.

those mini-fenders are hawt!!!! |
Sloar,
Looks like a good commuter. I hope you get to add some decent distance to your commute. Modolo brake levers on it, very diversity minded. Those are so nice looking I hate to put hoods on them. |
No hoods on the levers. Took me forever to take off the anodized gray and to polish them. I am going to put bar wrap on it though. For some reason I had one roll of cloth wrap left, so I threw that on for now.
|
Oh, I thought you had track grips on it. Looking at the levers, they are polished. I never thought of doing that. Guess I don't mind the grey/black that they come in. Polished does look nice. The Univegas are such nice bikes even a lower end one makes for a good ride.
Happy commuting ! |
Got this yesterday from an utterly hapless flipper. I arrived a half an hour earlier than I expected and he was desperately trying to install a bent and otherwise useless RD, with an even more destroyed RD in pieces at his feet. The whole scene stank of WD40 and flopsweat :( I would have told him I'd just take the just frame set and brakes for a slight discount, but I think (judging by his tools and apparent skill level) I'd be stuck there most of the day. The original wheel set turned out to be surprisingly true the brakes properly adjusted and functional, so I guess the guy hadn't messed with those yet.
Anyway, a Shogun Prairie Breaker I, circa 1986 based on the info on the Shogun serial number thread, but I thought all the major manufacturers had dumped the groovy biplane fork design by then. Anybody know? (I forgot to take some pix before I started taking it apart.) http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...d4be06b40e.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...n/photo-68.jpg |

that fork is "taking off into the wind".... |
Cool Shogun, love the fork and Canti's!
|
^ That Shogun's going to get the drop bar treatment, so I can dispose of my clunker.
|
Great candidate for drop bar conversion ! You are lucky.
|
Nice pickup Chuckk
|
Nice Shogun, caveman.
OT, but I picked up a California Audio Labs Icon MkII cd player for $6 at a thrift today. Apparently these went for $1k new. |
Chuckk,
That most certainly qualifies as a find ! Congrats there. Any idea where the forks could be ? Size 58 ? Like the number in the S/N ? |
Nice looking classic Shogun, Caveman!
That's a great score on the Tesch Allez, @Chuckk ! I've haven't stumbled upon any catches for a bit also, but yesterday I picked up a Haro Designs Impulse Comp mountain bike. Unknown year. It is still mostly stock with Exage 400 LX, and in good condition. It was listed as Impulse bike on CL. Almost flew under my radar and probably a lot of other people's. But I recognized the distinct E-stay frame configuration to a similar Haro Extreme. I got it for a 1/3 less than the asking price and left happy with a vintage and very cool MTB. Already started stripping and overhauling and touch up. I will swap in some Deore components from the parts bin. With all the off-road riding I've been doing lately, looking forward to riding the single track with a wider handlebar and mtb levers instead of my drop bar conversion. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7218/...ff2590ca_h.jpg |
So I go to this vintage car swap meet today. While looking around for anything flathead or early Ford pickup I could find, I ran across this. 2010 Electra Amsterdam Sport. 9 speed with a Sora RD, but I can fix that in a few minutes. The price was definitely right, and it's SUPER clean. This bike is shockingly light too. It weighs about what a decent aluminum road bike would weigh. MSRP was right around $500, and I picked it up for $150. I was thinking of selling it, but it fits me perfectly. Might sell a couple of other bikes instead.,,,,BD
