Picking this up sometime this weekend. I had one EXACTLY like this, and sold it back in early 2010. Been kicking myself since. Chrome mountain bikes are one of my main weaknesses. Roland is a local Houston importer, and I've owned a few of them over the years. I see drop bars in it's future. If not drops then bullmoose mountain bars.,,,,BD

Does anyone recognize that stem/bar combo? It almost looks like a steel bullmoose style stem with a separate handlebar?

Your wife should probably pull the horses out of the dumpster too. :p

Seriously, nice find - and since I was born in Elgin, I appreciate the namecheck.

To small for me Bianchi (15") Tange tubing, may make a good drop bar conversion for someone.

"My biggest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my bicycles for what I told her they cost."

That is scary. Then again, I won't care, I'll be bead!

My wife knows absolutely nothing about the stuff I have, she'll probably have a garage sale and sell these old bikes I have for $50 and take $25. She's an expert at throwing stuff away, (opposite problem of a hoarder!) she once threw away an aluminum cigar tube I had, no big deal right? except it was full of wheat pennies! She couldn't tell that the weight of that thing might have had something in it? She threw away all my catalogs and receipts I had for vintage bikes I had when we moved. It was just worthless papers we didn't need to be hauling across country, right? That's just two of the many many examples.

The problem here is that I want to throw out all of her stuff to make room for my stuff. That doesn't go well at all!

Here is my '89 Trek 520 that's my one and only bike! I picked it up from my local bike shop's attic for $150, and its all stock (except the saddle and bottle cages). I recently had the bars re-taped and put a Specialized Riva saddle and LOOK Keo pedals on. I'm keeping all of the stock parts I change out of course, I'm not completely crazy :) Next stop, finding a good deal on some 700c wheels!

A dumpster rescue. Columbus SL frame set. Campy record cranks, headset and brake levers. Modolo brake calipers. Dura Ace rear mech and Campy front mech. Wheels were tubular with cyclo-cross tires on them. Top tube was cracked where the rear brake cable enters it. Cinelli bar and stem were moved to my Cinelli Columbus SLX Miele.

After repair of the frame and conversion to single-speed. I have another Columbus SL Miele with N600 parts on it.

That's a nice bike dued. I have a weakness for chrome mountain bikes too. And while I don't currently have one, per se. I do have a Diamondback Ridge Runner that has plenty of the chrome showing near the drop outs and fork ends.

Not sure about the bars and stem, but are the Lee Chi levers stock? Every bike I've seen from that era have Dia Comp levers.

Have had a little luck over the past few weeks finding some bikes at garage sales. My current quick fix project is this older Ross Hi-tech mountain bike which is half way through getting its new tires.

I went to the garage sales this morning hoping to find a dusty old De Rosa or Pinarello but none were to be found. However, I did find a pair of neon Oakley Razor sunglasses with grey and iridium lenses and extra earpieces and nosepieces, all for five dollars. Hmm, now I guess I'll have to find a vintage LeMond La Vie Claire jersey to complete the look.

"My biggest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my bicycles for what I told her they cost."

That is one of the funniest things I've heard. I'm 60 years old and it's also one of the scariest.

Catch of the day:

1991/92 Schwinn Paramount PDG Series 30 Mountain bike…loving' the splatter, and it looks basically unused (great Deore LX components all around, showing very little wear).

Will make a great upgrade replacing my girlfriend's mid-to-later-90s Taiwanese Bianchi MTB. For $75 Canadian (about $68 US), I'll take one like it any day of the week.

I thought so - it was wayyy out of town in a semi-rural area, and no description to speak of in the CL ad, but the folks had business in the city and met me 15mins from my place with a helluva nice little bike!

I kinda wish it was my size, but it'll be just right for my girlfriend…so at least it's sticking around!

I'll have pics later, but here's the story:

While out riding my '11 Magna Rip Curl around our local campground yesterday morning after work (and before we broke camp), I noticed a couple of bikes with price tags on them outside the trailer of one of the fulltimers. One was a store-brand cruiser that had seen better days, and the other was a dirty but all-there Huffy Bay Pointe. It needs greasing and a good chain de-rusting, but it was used for riding in an annual charity ride over some fairly rugged hills (by western Kentucky standards anyway) as late as last year. I haven't decided if it will be my campground cruiser or replace the Rip Curl on the college campus where I am a security guard. We'll see when I get it all cleaned, lubed and tuned.

Yeah they're stock, and I am also finding that the brake calipers are made to be permanent fixtures on this bike. Lovely proprietary spring pin holes, on the OUTside of the mounts. Not on the inner (wheel side) of the mount where they belong. Oh well, I suppose I could find some way to install new bushings in them when they wear out. Raleigh made a bike or two with this mount, which stopped me from doing a refit on one of them once. Still love it though.,,,,BD

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps4db7fb14.jpg

Changed out the one dimensional cheapy cranks, to a set of Takagi Tourney A/D's I had. I thought they were the XT's, but they look very similar.,,,,BD

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...psf0867747.jpg

The brakes... Why oh why did they decide to make it impossible to install another brake? It's not like you could/can run out and buy a replacement set of Lee Chi calipers, even back then..?

Looks like a mix of Chorus, C-Record, Athena?
