Not sure where to post this, seemed like a good place. My wife picked these up at a yard sale today. Think she gave a dollar for all 3.

Took in my recycling this morning and saw a pickup with a bike in it. I asked the gentleman if he wanted a couple dollars for the bike, he said I could have it. Left at his new house from previous owners, a 1989 Rockhopper with the Mountain LX group. Well used, but not neglected. 17" frame, small for me , but will fit a kid before too long. A true save from the dump!

So I told I a family friend I was looking for a bike frame and he said he had an old one sitting at his house.. Well when I got there it was an all original Bianchi Sport SS that still had the shimano golden arrow parts.. Well it actually had all the original parts.. And best of all it was FREEEEEE

My DT shifter Cannondale drought is FINALLY over. I thought I'd never find one. I was denied at every turn. Well, what do I pick up today? What looks like a 1985(or thereabouts) ST400 sport touring bike. Three bottle mounts, and rack mount forks. A shame it doesn't have canti's, that would be just too much, haha. I think it's a 23 so on the small side for my legs, but the next size up is a 25", which would be too big almost. I am right in that bad size range for bikes that do the 23"-25" frame size jump. Oh well, just need a Technomic and I am good to go. The seat doesn't look overly high, but it's a lean to the drops.. Pics in a few.
EDIT: Just looked up the serial number, and it's an 84 model. BB1277 is the serial number. Oh yeah, and it is in NICE shape for an 80's C'dale. No visible corrosion, stuck cable housings, peeling paint, etc.. A clean, re-lube, tires/tubes, cables, and I am down the road!,,,,BD This is after a much needed bath. Pearl sky blue, guess I won't be touching that color up easily. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps51f135b6.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps22215e17.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...psb6fd017c.jpg This last pic is pre bath. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps36534cf1.jpg |
Those do look like nice bikes. I've had my eye out for one (in the next size up).

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...00718128_n.jpg I picked a Homelite (Ryobi) gas powered weed trimmer from the neighbour's trash after a yard crew had left it behind. The fuel line had broken inside the tank and the repair kit cost $3.98 and it came with a full tank of gas... it purrs like a kitten. |

anybody know anything about the pug? Mid eighties PH501. Decent bike, a step below the PGN10 which was lugged. A "little" heavy but no slouch. A worthwhile find!,,,,BD |

1985 Nishiki Colorado. $50, talked down to $35, which covered my gas. Been sitting in a barn, lots of surface rust.
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=390574http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=390575 Seat's rotten, tires are rotten beyond belief. Rims aren't in bad shape...only the front wheel has a QR, dunno if that was typical for the time or not, or whether I should try and remedy that or not. Shimano derailleurs, dunno how good they are, but they don't appear to be all stamped-metal. Shifters are SunTour, I think. Sugino VT crank, seems good, needs thorough cleaning. Bottom bracket is a little grumbly, probably quite rebuildable...after I can manage to break it loose. Brake levers and cantis are DiaCompe, they seem passable. I may put a drop bar on this. |
A customer called me to tell me that she wanted to give me her old mountain bike, thinking it would fit my daughter... I ditched the dead 1.125 threaded fork and installed the Mars Elite I just pulled off my Blizzard and installed it on her new Blizzard.

I thought I had found a rare Trek road bike but it wasn't to be. The local CL had an ad for a free bike frame and bike parts. I stopped by the alley where they were and got a 1985 Trek 450 frame, a brand new flip-flop rear wheel and a bunch of tires. When I got it home I noticed that the fork appeared to be pushed back. Sure enough the down tube had a kink in it. I got a set of Campy dt shifters, brake levers and calipers, headset, bottom bracket, stem, bars, seat post and rear wheel. The rear wheel was a match for an orphan front wheel that I had so that was good. After I stripped everything off the bike I put the frame in the alley so the scrappers could have it. It was gone the next morning. I think all in all it turned out well.

^Free Campy in an alley?! Can we see a picture?
|
It was just the dt shifters that were Campy.

My wife pulled this from the dumpster where she keeps her horses. Wasatch Cycle Works Team Issue. Magnesium Aluminum alloy, oval tubing, XTR brakes etc. The SID fork was shot but other than that it needed a little cleaning and adjusting and now works like an Elgin watch.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=390698

Looks like RaceFace Turbine cranks too. That was a high end bike. Nice catch!
