The Lotus mixte needs EVERYTHING! but it should turn out really nice. Four bikes: Peugeot, Bridgestone, Atala, and Lotus. Peugeot is the touring version (missing fenders and lights, still has rear rack).

Got this Stumpjumper Sport as a gift, is it asking for drop bars?

[curmudeon] I'm convinced it is all marketing. 'They' need to come up with new ways of making this year's model 'better' than last year's model so things have to change. For a while, it was adding more cogs in back, but that is getting old. Now it is tubing shapes, etc.

The chainstay brake mounts were supposed to be stiffer I believe. It was in about 1987 +/- a year and lasted about 1.5 seasons. I remember getting a frame at the time and that was all there was - everyone was doing it. Even Tom Ritchey succumbed I think....

Same goes for the sunglasses the pro riders wear. Every year has to be a different 'thing' than the year before. [\curmudeon]

Got this at the co-op the other day while picking up a chain. I need a bike project like I need 20 more years on my knees but I couldn't pass this one up as the price paid got me a pair of nice wheels and a basket for my daughter's going-to-college bike and a few other nice bits.

The rest of it is what I think is a 69-70 Frejus. The post and headset are Campy and the stem is old logo Cinelli. Both post and stem are stuck and I'm not sure if I can save them although I am sure I can get them out. It looks rusty but I think it's been in Colorado for a long time as the chrome just wipes clean.

I think the patina on the frame is permanent and it's a bit small for me so I don't know what I'm going to do with it long term. It would fit my sons but one's on a nice AD and the other on an 85 Trek 620 so I'm not sure this would be an upgrade for them.

Pulled one from next to the dumpster today. Not sure what it is, frame was stripped down and rusted. Old roadie lugged steel frame, japanese headset, 3 piece steel cranks, 27 inch wheels. Been converted to single speed, good tires, very nice but dirty lightweight KMC chain. It needs wd 40 and steel wool then some flitz on the frame and forks, needed brakes, bearings will get serviced and wheels trued. Rode good on a test ride before major work though.

I picked up this cool Hercules for $30 or so a while back and am finally getting around to cleaning it up. Advice appreciated.

Anymore, when I do find a decent bike at a garage sale, its going to be a MTB. 99% of what I see continues to be XMart crap.

But with mainly Suntour XC Pro components, and a Tange Prestige frame, what's not to like?

Oh yeah, and my favorite kind of tires, rotted out and flat (= discount).

Yes, the Ritchey MTB that I found at Play It Again Sports earlier this year had roller cam brakes, and the rears were underneath.

1984 Bianchi Limited I bought yesterday:

If it looks a little familiar to you, it's the one I sold in May for $220. Buyer is leaving town tomorrow; needed to unload it fast. Goes back up on CL next week; anyone interested?

That could be anything from a crappy old Trek to a nice Bridgestone...but...you need to post some pictures!

Sigg Tourist camp kit with a SVEA 123 stove for $ 25.00... they still make the SVEA stove with a small cup but Sigg no longer makes the rather excellent camp kit for the stove.

Great score! I saved up and bought that set back in the early 70s had it through the mid 80s until I loaned it to a pretty girl I worked with...Hope she still has it :)

Cheers,
Chris

It would have been a good deal at twice the price, this is still one of the best stoves you can buy and a new unit will run over 100.00 and then you still need a camp kit.

On this side of the pond white gas is easy to find, I still use a vintage coleman stove and lantern for vehicular travels and this kit will work for bike touring.

Nabbed this manual from a box of junk by the side of the road.

One man's junk is another man's treasure. Nice score on the Paris Sport.

Love the Marinoni. Still being made in Canada. I understand much of the business is now repaints and upgrades. A special run of steel frames was planned for 2015.

I crossed the border into Sarnia last month and checked out a Trek dealer. As soon as walked in the doors there was a brand new Marinoni built up with Campy Centaur. I think it was right about two grand. Really nice looking bike and decent price I thought.

I saw this unused Cateye yesterday and couldn't resist as it has the RPM sensor which the other NOS Cateye I bought a couple of years ago lacked. I guess I'll sell that one.

I'm guessing people often got them as gifts and upon opening them, realized installing them, fitting the cables and figuring the wheel circumference wasn't worth it.

sloar 08-10-15 05:14 PM

Entry level Nishiki, but not bad for $20. I swapped the wheels and brake levers. Should be an easy flip.

Here is my $3 bike that I picked up recently. The bike was free and I spent $3 for some parts. I completely broke it down and rebuilt it. It is an '88 Specialized Rockhopper.
