German built Hercules touring bike from 1952, completely original, bought from its first owner who even had the original bill and warranty card.:) Some days are just better than others... :)

I picked up two fairly unique mountain bikes in the last couple weeks. Both are 1989 models. The blue/green bike is a Haro Extreme and the red bike is a Reflex ALX89. The Haro has Deore components and the Reflex has Mountain LX/Deore components. I have $11 total invested in the Haro and $28 in the Reflex. I will keep the Haro (my first mountain bike) and sell the Reflex.

OH MY, so that is what awesome truly looks like ! Paperwork to back it up. That would make my year positive.

Why does the owner part with it ?

That bike belongs in a parade. Good catch.

Picked up these two this morning:

2009 Bianchi Dolomiti. Stock and original except for the wheel set. Previous owner had some cracking around a spoke hole, and just had the shop throw a new wheel set on. A spot of surface rust on the seat cluster, and the bottom bracket shell.

1991 Bridgestone RB-1. Same owner, not nearly as nice and clean. Oh well, still worthy of keeping around for a bit.

Do the math, I bet he's in his 90's and doesn't want to have someone roll it to the dump when he's gone. Real piece of art...

The original owner bought it with the first money he earned in '52. He's a real nice chap about 80 and unfortunately can't ride anymore due to an illness. It was hard for him to part with the bike he had owned nearly his whole life, but he was also glad to see it in the hands of someone who will keep it well. Already sent him some pictures of it.

Yes, we will all be there in time my friend... Just not with that stellar of a bike.

Who are you going to pass it on to ?

Good question, but hopefully there'll be many years I can enjoy it before.

I've seen those ridges on the tire before, but never put it together that they are for the generator...

3speedslow 07-22-15 07:05 PM

Daniel,

I certainly hope so !

please post some ride pics of the bike out in your wonderful countryside, cities. I miss Germany, exciting times racing there back in the 80's.

I'd say that's quite a day! Great find and a beautiful bike. Thanks for sharing.

Talking about generators, I love this unique construction. :) The bike is an "Sichelrad" (sickle bicycle) built by the former german Anker Werke in the 30's. One of the first fork suspensions ever built. :)

199X Klein Performance

Anyone able to give me a year on the Klein? It's a bit of a Frankenbike, weird mix of Shimano and Campagnolo. Regardless, it's super smoove.

Nice scores there!

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=466499 Scored this 1981 Miyata 1000 with a very nice Brooks Flyer Special for $68 today. What's even more amazing, it was on Craigslist in bike crazy Portland for three days. May have helped that it was listed as a 'Migata' in the ad, made it fly under my radar too until a forum member posted the ad in the Ebay/Craigslist finds thread.

Very nice miyata at a great price!

I'm not a Facebook person, but we do have a local garage sale group for our town. I check it from time to time for bikes, usually nothing but junk. But this popped up yesterday for $60, had to grab it.

Almost Free Tacos

Compared to Sloar's find above maybe I overpaid?

The rear rim got damaged when the Trek 3700 came off the vehicular rack. Rest of the bike looks fine with good paint, well worth $10 from a yard sale.

The 2005 Fuji Ace with 27 speed Sora was a "make an offer" find at a yard sale. I had to settle at $70. It may be the best deal I have scored on a modern drivetrain road bike.

Collectively, the refurbished selling prices of these two bikes will cover the gorgeous Miyata track bike I got from OldsCool a week ago.

I have been looking for a 650B wheel set for a while, but all that I found were too expensive or too far away and still too expensive. Today I found a brand new pair on CL about 20 miles from home for $65. My wife wanted to go to a farmer's market and library in the same town, so I made the call and off we went. The wheels had Sun Cr-18 rims, DT stainless straight gauge spokes, and Shimano C201 hubs. The seller even threw in a new Sram 8 speed cassette. The wheels were still in the shrink-wrap. After the farmer's market buys and lunch at a local Italian restaurant, we had an enjoyable afternoon together for under $90.

I found a 1958 Mercian cycles frame in the dump behind a motorcycle shop no rust!!!!!! I will post pics later!

Given the Klein logo on the the Down Tube, the bike looks to be a 1994. Color looks to be called Sable Haze

Check it out here in the 1994 catalog.

Cool, thanks. Actually, both of those are now out of my hands. I gave the Klein to my sister in-law who's starting training for a triathlon and needed a bike, and then last week the Osprey to her foster kid who just needs a bike for tooling around on. Initially, I'd planned to keep the Brooks for myself, but when my sister in-law took a test ride she raved about the saddle and how great looking and comfortable it was. Man, the things you do for family.

Got some consolation today, though:

Bertoni Nuovitalia in Electric Rose (in an admittedly poorly framed cell phone picture).

Apparently the lowest in the Bertoni lineup, but it came with Shimano 600 components (except the bars, brake handles and calipers). Paint's faded in several areas and there are a couple rust spots, but there are no dents and everything works perfectly. Super twitchy, probably due at least in part to the width of the riser bars. The seller said he was pretty sure he listed it for less than it was worth (SPOILER: he did), because there was another interested party ready to buy it sight unseen. So, I'm almost certain I just beat another C&V'er to the punch. Sorry, whoever you are... but not that sorry.
