It also happens to be a neighbor's granddad's first name. She'd love to have it but knows nothing about cycling.

Sorry for the bad, quick phone pic, but I picked up this '91 Trek 950 for $65 today on CL. It's clearly had a hard life, many scratches and scrapes on the frame and parts, mechanically it works well though. I threw a set of tires on it from another bike for the time being, as the ones it came with were in bad shape.

I also gave it a mini tune-up on my bike stand and it shifts almost flawlessly. The wheels are very close to perfectly true surprisingly, and I'll make them even better tomorrow. All that aside though, it rides beautifully. The lugged frame is very responsive and has a nice firmness to it. I'm planning on taking it on a 25 mile ride tomorrow morning to really get a feel for it.

Ultimately I'm hoping to get it really cleaned up and hopefully it'll look a bit less 'used'. Really wondering what I can do about it's many scrapes and scratches, touch up paint maybe? I'm open to suggestions. :)

That's a pretty nice score.

Thanks. I took the bike on a 25 mile ride this morning and am truly blown away by how nice it rides. Great hill climber, and so quick all around. Great frame geometry. I think Trek really excelled with this early mtbs. Still trying to decide what approach to use to bring it back to close to original shape. I'm gonna give it a good cleaning and I'm debating repainting the brake levers and a few other parts that are heavily scratched. Wish I could repaint the frame as well but that would be beyond what I could reasonably do.

We grabbed this tree before it went to the dump.

Thanks. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Definitely tedious but worth it.

Now that the project for the gal is done, I can go back to the bike projects which are piling up and in various stages of refurbishing.

No pictures yet, but I just picked up an early 90s Nishiki Cascade for $65. It looks barely ridden, super clean with no scratches, rust etc. All original except consumables. I'll post a picture as soon as I can tomorrow (it was after dark when I picked it up). I'm thinking I might do a drop-bar + single speed conversion...

EDIT: Pictures!

Wow, just wow! It may not be C & V like you said but it was more than worth mentioning it here. Congrats on not only finding a Waterford but finding one for such an amazing price in amazing condition. Those are great bikes as I'm sure you know, Rivendell has their bikes built by Waterford, and I know in 30 years that bike you have will be a C & V bike. Congrats again.

grabbed a beat up old schwinn sprint on the side of the road. somebody tossed it out for the scrappers, its complete, just needs a tune and tires. its not much to look at but its still has all of its schwinness to it.

taking it to the coop so it can be used as a giveaway, we giveaway bikes to people who need them to get to work, we give away 2700 bikes annually.

Scored two in as many days.

1991 (from all signs) Bianchi Osprey:

199X Klein Performance

Anyone able to give me a year on the Klein? It's a bit of a Frankenbike, weird mix of Shimano and Campagnolo. Regardless, it's super smoove.

That Brooks on the Klein, nice icing on the cake !

curbtender 07-11-15 06:10 PM

Ask DiabloScott, he's done a little research on the KLEIN's... http://www.bikeforums.net/northern-c...ke-museum.html

'85 or so. I paid extra to have my fork color-matched to the frame.

As best as I can figure out, this is an early 1950s Hopper Roadster. I just couldn't resist.

Wow you could sell it and triple your money, but then in 20 years that guy could sell it and triple his money.

Have any of you converted a raleigh like that into a pit bike? Lawn mower engine on the rack kind of thing? I don't know why but this has always been a dream of mine. Both great finds btw

HSean 07-19-15 12:11 AM

Never thought of that lol. only ever made a banana seat bike with it that folded. I got it because i needed the hoop of one of the wheels for my none folder twenty. got whole bike for what rim was worth. I plan on rebuilding a wheel for it though but 3 speeds

Mr. Haney stopped again yesterday and told me to stop by to look at another bike, 1989 Schwinn Probe. Not quite the gem the last one was but the price was right, even though it has a seriously stuck seatpost. If you look at the seat post in the first pic you can see where some one went at it with vice grips or something. I have it soaking with MMO right now, if that doesn't get it I'll bust out the Kroil. I WILL get it out! Regardless, the tires are going on the Takara Highlander I bought earlier in the week, they are nearly new Bontrager gum walls.

Here's the Takara, guessing a mid-80's?

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...psnl3k96fh.jpg

Group shot. Both bikes have identical Araya rims and they are all nice and true, the Takara rims are much nicer condition and it has Suntour XC Sport hubs, the Schwinn has Maillard hubs.

Murray Missile 07-19-15 12:15 PM

Seat post success!

Got the seat post out of the Schwinn Probe, this is what I found once I got it started upward. 95% of the marks are from someone's previous attempts. It appears they gave up and drove it back in, that's the only thing I can think of. No visible damage to the seat tube fortunately so the Probe will live on.

One of the best bikes I've ridden, I'll probably still have it 20 years from now :).
