Heat gun.
It's the only way to take off decals IMHO. Don't attempt if you are too dim to sneak up on the heat instead of just blasting it at full-hot setting. The heat gun is pretty good at removing paint too if you let it get THAT hot. I have removed a lot of this tape and the heat gun did the best job ( still a pain ) then followed up by some Goo B Gone as it will leave the sticky side on the frame in a bunch of spots. Glenn |
Nobody seems to like mixtes where I'm from:

Some of you may have noticed me posting that I had found an old bike shop that has been closed for years. Well, I finally got a chance to go back today, and helped him organize and clean up the shop a little. He paid me in parts, and at the end of the two hours he says "Well, what do I owe you?" I picked out something and he says "Done deal." My payment.... NOS in the package, never opened... Suntour Bar end shifters! Complete with the cables, housings, etc. The card in the package says "Handle Barend control lever" Obviously bad Japanese to English translation at it's best.
Now I just have to find something worthy of NOS Barcons:D. A wonderful problem to have! BTW, the original price tag says $29.99 in faded handwritten numbers.,,,,BD http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps1554095a.jpg |
I have to remember to call you when I need my house painted, that should be worth the NOS Positron derailleur I've been hanging onto for a few years. ;)

Two hours of labor in an air conditioned shop isn't worth a set of NOS barcons? I might would paint a house for a couple of NOS 70's Italian road bikes of decent quality. Nothing Positron is worth lifting a finger, JMHO.;),,,,BD

Saved this hybrid looking thing from the Garbage today! I think it looks pretty sweet. It has been spray painted over what appears to be Celeste colored paint. But it has all Shimano brakes and derailleurs. It has Scott handlebars. Any ideas what this is?

Good luck with the tape. I was thinking of soaking a rag with something and soaking it for a day or two before trying to peel it off.

The mtb looks very Miyata-esque to me, especially with the spare spoke holder/chain protector braze on, and front rack mounts. If it's not, it's very decent either way.,,,,BD

Has that mid 80's stumpjumper blue under the green.
|
Good idea Stomper. I guess the idea is just to get the glue to release from the frame, and heating (with or without steam) should make the glue pliable again to peel off the tape. Thanks for the tip.

I am going to double post this, but I don't think anyone will mind.
Pawnshopping today, one I am at only 2-3/year Tiny place 25x 15 feet, I turn around and there sitting on flat tires. --Tommasini Super Prestige in my size (55) Campy parts, Mavic hubs. The bad, nearly four bills out the door. But I have deep pockets for stuff like this.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=275271http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=275272http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=275273 Cobalto brakes, Still have to ID the exact model of derailleur. Looks to be all original. |

don't mind at all, though it's not an Apex (though it sure looks close) few of us suspect it's a Scott Boulder or similar http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...9#post14767369

Certainly not vintage, but I have a soft spot for Kleins, and this one was at an attactive price, so I nabbed it. Unfortunately, it did not come with one of those wonderful Klein multicolor paint schemes. But it is still a nice one.
Klein Pulse Comp: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8174/8...ef847097_b.jpg |
Nice score Bill. My kids all rode an even older Pulse comp with a rigid fork until they out grew it. Nothing like starting a kid on a 20lb mtb with slicks to get them hooked on biking.

Finally, two decent thrift store finds. Been a long time since I found a bike at a thrift store.
One's a late 1970s Nishiki Competition, with Cyclone G1 components, the other appears to be a Cannondale, set up as a SS. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8029/8...16390752_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8311/8...8e74e79e_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8037/8...f3c51452_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8035/8...845928bd_c.jpg |
I found a Frejus at the thrift store yesterday morning, Huret Svelt derailers. Frejus and Legnano are the same company :)

Went to a flea market this morning and found a vendor selling current magazines for $1 each, he must be dumpster diving behind the news stand :) Bought two imported "lifestyle cycling" magazines, Treadlie from Australia, and the first issue of Urban Cyclist from the UK. Both look pretty entertaining. Also found an unused Sugino bottom bracket tool for a buck!
