Nice!. 1987. I dig the filet brazing on the headtube. 3rd from the top Paramountain was first, Cimmaron was second. Put some slicks on it and make it your trailer bike.

One of those high end 1980s Schwinn MTBs is on my list for future keepers. Great catch.

I saw that High Sierra posted the other day and thought about getting because one of my daughter's is named Sierra(no, not named after the bike). I know, a bad reason to buy a bike, but there are worse. But I would have to kick my chromed Ross out to make room for it and I just added it.

Good luck with my daughter's bike and treat it nice.

Love those Sierra's with rollercams and fillet brazed head tubes! Very nice catch!

fender1, I love your Schwinn High Sierra!

Would be nice as a touring or "expedition" type bike, or as a solid commuter bike. It looks like it even has mounts for a front rack. That stem looks like it would work nicely with a set of drop bars.

For some, an inexpensive alternative to the ....

Good call, it is an 87 according to the stamp on the headbadge, and there was a Giant sticker on the drive side chainstay. After tearing the bike down, everything is in great condition, with the exception of the chain and cables. Should be an easy rebuild.

I got this kids 24 inch Peugeot US Express yesterday at the thrift store for $7. Its in pretty good shape and just needs a good cleaning and some tires. Its not that small of a frame and I think it will be fun to work on. My cat think so.

This is literally exactly what I am currently doing with the exact same bike. Its shaping up pretty nicely.

Good move.

If you haven't already, check out the "how-to" section on the adventure cycling association's website. Pretty decent.

McDave did the same thing with his High Sierra. Check out the "Show us your Vintage Touring bikes" thread.... http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...-Touring-bikes
His turned out really really REALLY nice.

I didn't score a bike but did get a great NOS tool and some NOS S&A hubs with drum brakes for a song. I have pics of the tool but I didn't get them of the hubs yet.

I think I saw one at a little hole in the wall shop in Athens I frequent but I think it was missing the roller brakes. I wouldnt go looking for it. They sort of cater to the UGA "mom and dad are paying for it" types on their vintage bike sales. They have a super clean Trek 720 they just took deposit on of a $450 sale price. It was NICE! but not where I am money wise.

I ended up buying a set of Super record brakes and Suntour bar ends from him though for a decent price.

Nice score on the tools!

I finished up a 1983 Fuji Royale II I picked up as a frameset. Fortunately, it came with the original wheelset too (gold Araya rims). And its my size. But I have too many bikes....

The Royale II is only listed for two years, and only one year with the gold rims. Seems to be a nice step up from the Royale, as it has quad butted tubing. The fork is Ishiwata.

Somewhat odd, the catalog shows this bike with a full seat tube wrap decal.

Nice find - It looks like it is missing the down tube decal.

Nice job on the Fuji Bill, should be an easy sale.

Here is an '82 that went to CL last year. It had the seat tube decal, though it was in need of a little refastening around the edges. Always admired the handsome engraved and painted cranks from that era.

Not the deal of the century, but I bought out a guy's bike shop today, of the basic consumables: tubes, tires, lube, bar tape, a couple of boxes of stainless cables, that kind of stuff. Plus I picked up a variety of tools: truing stand, PRS2 with base, tension gauge, dishing gauge, derailleur hanger straightener, a couple of floor pumps, etc.

Looking forward to having a new shop in about a month with some room to use this stuff.

Congrats and good luck with the new shop!

fiataccompli 01-08-11 06:36 PM

I'd love to have a dishing gauge and tool to measure the rear derailleur hanger angle...

here are a couple recent and semi-recent saves...the first is a SchwinnTraveler 3 speed. The hub says "53 6" under the SA logo, so I'm assuming that means 1953...not sure i've deciphered the serial code (C316240) correctly but I guess from the cursory look I found it didn't quite match the head badge in catalogs but the serial # could be '53 (maybe?). Anyway, cool "schwinn approved" script on the brakes and a working front/rear generator light!

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...veside-750.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...rbrake-600.jpg

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...dlight-600.jpg

should'a taken a pic of the rear light too...

The next is a '70-something (I think...the person who put it a barn thought it was a '65 but it does not appear to be) Peugeot (something)8. No prize, but in seriously great condition. A friend bought it to build a commuter, but when he saw how nice it was he said he couldn't chop it up so we worked out a trade on a nicer (by modern standards) Univega I had that was probably an equivalent value.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...ug-08-seat.jpg

and it came with all the fenders, front light, fender stays, the original Mafac brake levers and a Mafac tool kit..

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...extrastuff.jpg

here are the levers...anyone have a theory as to why the PO would have taken these off and put some generic DiaCompes on it? The Mafacs look fine to me but I don't know anything about them (yet)

fiataccompli 01-08-11 10:04 PM

thanks & glad you said that....it's very tempting to start lightening up the Pug, but if I look around at my bikes I realize that I have plenty of light bikes...and plenty of bikes that should be heavy & cludgey but are surprisingly 'sported up' like this one would be...so, I'm thinking that this Peugeot will remain as stock as it is right now & I'll see how I enjoy it as that. To me it's a no-brainer with a low end bike if it needs repairs. With all the pieces intact and it really in "ready to ride" shape, it seems like it's calling to be kept as it is. That said, it's gonna be hard not to change the bars out since they need tape & I'm already changing levers.....

Thursday the contractor who had built our house in '07 stops by and asks me about fixing an mtb that he had damaged at a job site he was working at. Described it as a Walmart bike with a broken rear spoke and a wobbly rim. Sure I tell him, no problem. Well, yesterday he brings it by, and for my trouble, three other bikes he had hanging around his place that he wanted me to have. Not too bad for a broken spoke and a bit of truing.

A Hercules road bike, with low end Suntour.

A 1972 25" Schwinn Varsity. Note the two front fenders, classic!

A ladies middleweight with Bendix 2 speed hub. Double mono stays. I have no idea what make this is, or from what year. Any ideas?

Looks to be a 75-76 UE8 that has lost it's fenders... think the rack is a later model.

They are very nice bikes once you upgrade the lesser components as this improves the performance and safety.

My UO8 was a spring catch and I have since passed it along to a friend... did a fair bit of upgrading because I had the parts at hand to do it.

Your search would make for a good new thread. Seems like C&V could use one today.

monsterpile 01-09-11 12:52 AM

I am now searching for a road bike too since I have someone wanting a one and I don't have anything in her size in the bike cave.

Trying to make space, sold 4 bikes and frames this week with more to go. I still couldn't resist this '82 Bianchi Superleggera as I have been looking for one for a while. In poor shape, but should clean up. Bianchigirll: I don't have access to 1982 catalog. Does this look original? I would have expected more Super Record, as it's just the headset, everything else is NR.

That is one tough looking bike. I'm digging it. Used to not like black bikes, but I'm coming around. Nice find indeed. As a Bianchi fan myself, I'd suggest that you hold on tight 'cause that baby is going to take you on one hell of a ride.
