Searching craigslist for a friend and I came across this nice 1985 Trek 400 series. For $160 I couldn't pass it up...too many nice parts! Nitto Moustache bars, Panaracer TG tires, Turbo saddle, Shimano 600 hubs, SKS fenders, etc. I don't plan to do too much to it besides add a chain & pedals, install the fenders and get it riding. It will be a nice compliment to my geared vintage Trek

It does! The paint on the old Treks is the best

Picked this up today at a Flea market. It is a 1982 Motobecane Profil 2. I have never seen one like it and thought it was cool. The gentleman selling it gave me $5.00 off the price because I could pronounce the name correctly. It needs a little TLC, but should clean up pretty well. The reflective tape on the seat stays could be a bear to get off.

i love that moto - i love the aero design (kinda like that the huffy "aerowind" look on that tubing)
cool - enjoy edit: btw - i also dig your kestrel - kinda wanting one of those myself |
Picked this up this batavus for 15 euro at a sale, and i've already started working on it.
Does anyone know what type it is? http://imageshack.us/a/img28/9483/dscf9609m.jpg Came with this: http://imageshack.us/a/img827/6479/dscf9613a.jpg |
Nice Motobecane! Looks like it has the value variant of the DA AX Brake calipers. And whats with the seat binder bolt? I'd like to see that more close up.

Hi,
I got my first C&V yesterday, also my first road bike. It's a 1981 (or 1982) Miyata 912. It's a 54 cm frame, a perfect fit for me. It has been changed to a flat-bar but will be changed back to drops very soon, although I think I'll use "modern" parts. The previous owner was to large for the frame, that's why he ran it with flat bars and the stem way above the max line. The rear derailleur is a Sun Tour cyclone m-II, although according to catalog it should have been Shimano 600 EX (arabesque). Brakes are modern, otherwise it seems to have original parts. Paint is quite good and it does not appear to have been in heavy use. I will get fenders (if I can fit them) and a rack for it and use it for commuting, among other things. (please excuse the crappy pictures) http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=273340http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=273341http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=273342http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=273343http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=273344 |

Here's a shot of the binder bolt. I'm kind of anxious to ride this. Pretty neat stuff the closer I look at it. I would like to see some literature on it, but haven't even found a catalog that it is in.

It looks like very late seventies to early eighties graphics on the frame. I can honestly say I NEVER knew Moto built anything like that! The frame is rockin, but the color doesn't do anything for me. No matter, it's too cool for words nonetheless. Can't wait to see it all done up.,,,,BD

Nice find on the 912. Check out the "Miyata Cult" thread for some more recent 912 action.
A rack and fenders? That's a racing bike man! You must reduce weight and go fast! |

I was already having second thoughts about the rack and fenders and wondering how much a new paint job would cost instead (in the 1981 orange color). The paint wasn't as good as I thought at first, quite some scars showed up when I cleaned it. The bike is probably an "1982 model", judging by the components, although the frame has an 1981 serial. I've already scrolled the "Miyata Cult" thread and I'll post pictures of mine when I have something to show. |

Finally a real "Save" from the dump. Drove to work and parked by a pickup piled up with bikes and strapped down. Five or six in total and about three deep was this Fuji. Haven't looked at serials or catalogs, but likely mid seventies. I put a post it note with my phone number and an offer of $10 for the Fuji. He called later after had had taken the other four of five bikes straight to the landfill, not even the scrapyard. Broke my heart. There was nothing else I really wanted in there but plenty of good parts for flippers and a couple of decent front shocks as well. Saved one at least.

trlrnr- I started to work on the tape and it is a pain. It must be pretty old becuase it is not coming off in any type of pieces, more like just flaking off. It will be one of those jobs that tests my patience. I'm going to try some Goo-Gone to see if that might soften it up a bit.
Bikedued- The rarity of the frame is why I picked it up (not to mention the price was right). You just do not come across these every day. I do not think it is worth a fortune, but it will be great on the rack at home. I'll get it cleaned up soon. |

Heat gun.
It's the only way to take off decals IMHO. Don't attempt if you are too dim to sneak up on the heat instead of just blasting it at full-hot setting. The heat gun is pretty good at removing paint too if you let it get THAT hot. |
Those aero Motobecanes are unusual bikes.
One passed through my hands last year, the unusual aero frame was unbelievably heavy though. That AX groupset will clean up beautifully. Brake pads are near impossible to find, search online, I believe people have to make them up by shaving down full size pads. |
