OK, do you use a brake pad made for ceramic rims?
|
Not yet. They are on order from my LBS
|
Regular pads work fine. I've been running Mavic ceramic SUPs for 15 years and brake wear and performance is excellent with normal pads.
|
I needed new pads anyway... the original pads from 1987 are still on there and do work surprisingly well. You'd think they'd be dry and crumbling, but nope... still got some life in em.
|
:P |
there's a 'backwards' for a front hub?
|
Yeah, matching the text direction of the rear hub.

Sloar, that Centurion looks showroom new. Well scored.
|
Wow. Tiny looking but awesome. I never see 89 sport DLXs
|
We spent all day at a swapmeet out of town looking for bikes with no luck. This was at a rummage sell 4 houses down from my house.

Drove almost 300 miles to buy this on a tip from Jet Sanchez:

I am glad it worked out----Columbus SL, Chorus and Shamals is always a win win situation. Is it your size?
|
It is my size (I'm flexible). As pictured is just about right for me. I've already swapped out the 100mm stem for a 120mm so that's helped a lot as well.

Totally worth it. I don't know who the MILEAGE CHAMP or is it CHUMP award should go to for chasing a bike deal, WRK101, ITHADAN, or are there any other nominees? No, the "I got this while on vacation or business trip," doesn't count, just driving to score a bike deal. My driving limit is about 75 miles, round trip. I purchased this clean 1994 Trek 930 for a conversion on Friday, 40 miles of extra driving, but worth it. Not a steal, but still great value. Saddle has been changed in the photo. Hubs overhauled, new FD cable/housing, a cleaning, all done for now. https://dl.dropbox.com/s/i82b473134l...2008.57.39.jpg |

I've been lucky, for that distance, it would be a bottle of wine. I've had very nice friends pick up bikes in locations while I am as far as 50-600 miles away.
While getting the above Trek 930, at a barn sale I scored the nice Sunbeam Mixmaster Junior for $1.00, which upon resale, will cover the Motobecane Nomade and 2 new low end saddles as well. https://dl.dropbox.com/s/4yhf5mmvw4j...2012.03.01.jpg https://dl.dropbox.com/s/f90pcuquoaf...e%20Nomade.jpg |

However my brother lives there so it isn't purely for bikes. But I usually came back with 3 to 4 bikes and a bunch of tires from their performance branch there. Haven't done it in a couple of years though. Best haul was a Jamis Aurora, stumpjumper, and a trek 7000, that cost me $300 total. All in near perfect shape. |

When you live in Hooterville, if you want something special, you either drive a long distance, or forget it. Its one thing I get a laugh about. I had one recent find I posted, where another forumite mentioned how lucky I was to find such a nice bike in my area. Well, that forumite was from Charlotte, and I picked up the bike in Charlotte, that had sat on C/L for several days. Drove 150 miles each way to pick up a beautiful Tommasini (not my size). Drove 260 miles, each way, to pick up a Tommasini that was my size. Sent my wife over to Davenport, IA to pick up a nice 1981 Schwinn Super Sport. On longer drives, I try to nab more than one bike. I just don't understand what the pickers in Charlotte are thinking (the first one) or Charleston, SC on the second one. The one was on C/L for two days, the other one, over TWO weeks! All of these bikes were at least 150 miles away, one way. All pictures below are "as found" except for my keeper Tommasini) How far would you drive for this one (mix of Campy Super Record and Superbe Pro), assuming a very attractive price? http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2852/9...7229e04c_b.jpg Or this one? (the keeper my size, after being refurbished) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7258/7...1e49c726_b.jpg Or this one? http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8180/7...b01b03b6_b.jpg Or this one? (Batavus Professional, mostly Campy Triomphe components, pedals sold on feebay for what I paid for the bike): http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8462/8...4b0d246a_b.jpg TB |
That first Tommasini is a beaut! Is it a 54 or so?
