Picked up this Devinci for a song a while back. It had a mildly borked front fork (side impact) that I finally got around to replacing. Has mid-range, late 80s/early 90s Shimano components and 27" wheels. Has plenty of tire clearance for fenders and canti brakes and a triple crank, so I thought it might be a touring bike, but it doesn't have rack mounts on the seat stays. I tried looking up old Devinci catalogs, but couldn't find any from this era. There's no model information on the bike itself -- anyone know what I have here?

Just picked up this giant perigee for $20! Was delighted to see a full shimano 600 tri-colour groupset and mavic wheels with 105 hubs. Luckily for me it was all hiding behind 20+ years of grime - a blessing in disguise as it made the bike run like s**! making the seller want to get rid of it, but protected the groupset well. Gave it a quick degrease/clean and she's come up looking good. Will work on getting her a little more tidy but it's all working perfectly now.

Nice bike for the cost. I need you to look at the big chainring and see if it is installed incorrectly. I see the peg out of rotation. It should be under the crank arm. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks.

I found this being hauled away and gave five bucks for it. I think I over spent and I don't know what to do with it. I put a chain on it and rebuilt the bottom bracket just because ( because something made me want to ride it at least once ). Everything needs replacing and I'm not sure what " HI-TEN SPECIAL DESIGNED TUBING " means. If it hadn't been a tall frame I wouldn't have given it a second look. I was surprised that the lugs were shaped and lined.

There is a neighbor with about 10 vintage road bikes, with about 40 wheels, some no good at all, but some are serviceable. Quite a few nice Suntour cranks and derailleurs though. A few locomotive Scwinns and a few Raleighs, all pretty faded paint.

He basically want's to give them all away, but is it worth it hauling about 4 pickup loads of this stuff, just for a few good parts?

Today the dump came to me. I was out in front of our place letting our dogs do their business when I saw a neighbor wheeling a beater cruiser with no rear wheel across the street. I asked if he'd busted his rear wheel, and he said he was taking it to the dumpster at the school next door. I'd been wanting to visit a local bike coop here, which specializes in helping local kids in the Lower Ninth Ward area get functional bikes, so I told him to wheel it over to our parking spot, and I'd drop it off there to see if they could use it. It turned out he had the rear wheel (rusty steel thing), a set of panniers, and another bike he was also tossing.

The Mongoose XR100 is apparently a Walmart BSO that needs a lot of love, and may not be worth salvaging. Hopefully the coop can use some of the parts. The cruiser frame looks in decent shape. Rear wheel is rusty steel, as are the bars, but it might clean up OK. Supposedly it just needs a new chain. I'll pump up the tires before I take them over, so see if they hold air.

Got a bunch of things at the dump tag sale between friday and saturday. Spent $16 on everything (they gave me the peugeot for free for working the first day)

The peugeot is missing a seat, and the chain. It has a bontrager race lite wheelset on it (700c too!). I think someone started a project but never finished it, as theres a 9 speed cassette but a 6 speed derailleur.

The nishiki prestige was $5, I couldnt say no to a nice lightweight bike. It has a really nice feel to it, and it has aero levers and 700c wheels.

These have all been sitting outside for years, so I'd probably need a Tetanus shot after licking anything over there, haha.

On specific ID, I the google picture book says it's genus BSO, species Vilano, the second to lowest order of trendy fixed-gears offered by the largest of the big-box stores.

The drive-side pedal hole was stripped, and the hand brake clamp was broken. I think that's probably why it ended up in the river in the first place. For the person who wondered what it would take to bring back a drowned bike, this isn't the project to start with. It went to the co-op for stripping and parts salvaging.

My next bike project, hopefully to be completed in time to accompany my son when he starts practicing for cross country running on some of the local trails! 1995 Diamondback Ascent EX, which in combination with my parts bin and the Specialized Hardrock I bought for $10 at a yard sale gets me most of the way to a complete bike - anybody want to trade me a 26.8mm seatpost that would fit this one for a nice 27.2 I pulled from a destroyed Trek?

Picked this up a year, or so, ago and it did come from the Dump. It was well hidden under a bunch of stuff, with only the rear wheel and seat tube visible. I wrestled it out of its grave and my son built it up yesterday and today. He had to as his bike was stolen a few days ago...

Raleigh Olympian by the Curb
 

My now-favorite son-in-law rescued a Raleigh Olympian for me from the neighbor's curbside trash in Memphis. He said they bought a new truck and apparently had to make room in the garage. The original Raleigh water bottle, still in the cage, disintegrated when I tried to pull it out. The bike looks like it was ridden a dozen times or so and then consigned to some dusty corner. I scolded him for not getting their discarded lawnmower, too.

A friend brought by a truckload of Wal-Mart bikes to work on for school kids, but among them was a vintage Hercules single-speed, what we called an "English Racer" back in the day when narrow tires were a rare sight.

Finally, I liberated an old Schwinn Tiger from a local "antique" shop. It has an irresistible patina. I was riding it around town, but when I came to a hill the 60-year-old chain snapped. I had forgotten how weak coaster brakes were. Now I understand how I wore out so many pairs of Red Ball Jets!

When it rains it pours . . . bicycles.

I took this home for $48 based on an ad in the OfferUp! app that said only "Sports Bike - Low Price" and a single dark, blurry photo. I could tell that it was green, a Raleigh based on the white hoods, and had chromed stays. It had a gel padded seat cover over the Brooks, and seems to be totally intact other than someone replaced the rear mech with a Suntour Honor and had ridden it in the mid 80s, at least, as it has Specialized tires. Not sure what I'm going to do with it: as it is intact, it might be worth a good polish and fresh grease. Or, if it happens that I lose all patience with the cranks, it might be an interesting platform for an IGH randonneuse.

^^ those are nice bikes for working on and turn into very nice riding bikes as well. That looks like a very well preserved machine. Lucky the Brooks is still attached and good shape. Do you have a cotter press or large vice? Both are great for getting cutters out.

The handle bars look mint, great hoods and tape. I would try and keep those together.

Will look forward to some more pics while it goes through its transformation. The 3 speed Rando idea sounds great!

Been a heck of a week for finding vintage road bicycles

First of all, my early seventies Peugeot PX10E has been delivered to my friend in Duluth...

Then I swapped some wheels for a nice seventies something Dawes Galaxy with nice Campy upgrades...

And, only a couple of hours ago a friend gave me another all chrome plated Torpado that must have been a garage hanger, based on its original condition, however, oxidation has presented itself. Not to despair, though. The rust cleans right off...

Paint is scrubbed but I cannot restore it, it would damage the original design of the decals (actually dont know if these are decals or paint).

Owner claimed it was a CroMo frame..... Jacques Anquetil. Said I might have an issue with the French threading.
Edit: Not so much....its an Sugino Italian BB assembly.

I might have an issue with the bottom bracket that was installed backwards! Adjustable cup on the drive side.

Mixed bag with Campy NR rear & Record front, maybe GS levers? Modern 700c LF Cyclone front wheel and Tipo HF rear w/ 27" rim. Nothing about the frame says CRoMo to me.... more like gas pipe. Stamped drop-outs, clunky lug work and a weld seam on the BB Shell. But I didn't buy it for the frame. I'll know more when I take it apart.

If you know anything about Jacques Anquetil branded frames, I'd be interested in hearing from you. TIA
