Thanks a lot! I am glad you like it!

Picked these ladies up for a song lastnight, my brother loves my 75 raleigh sports, so when i spotted both of these for 150 bucks, i jumped at them,

they both need a ton of work, and the ladies frame maybe used for parts to get the superbe back in line... my brother doesn' t want a full resto just functional, but i want to cleanup the paint as much as possible,

anybody know what color touch up paint would match the raleigh green?

What model is my new Peugeot Mixte?

My latest CL cheapie, and also my first meekst. Anybody want to volunteer what model I have here, so as to avoid YET ANOTHER "pls i.d. my poojoe" thread?

It was originally a 5-speed, as evidenced by a single downtube shifter brazeon (drive side). Looks like it's been messed with over the years, with mis-matched Shimano thumbies, a double chain ring up front, Shimano FD, mis-matched wheel set and SIS freewheel. It still carries what I assume are the original fenders with integrated front and rear lighting(!) and rack. Brazeons for frame pump, rack and bottle generator mounting; cool stuff. Then there's the white plastic Mafac brake levers, something I've never seen before. Over all, a nicely equipped bike for boom era gaspipe. Serial # 1486000 appears on left dropout, headbadge is chromed pot metal with plastic lenses over the golden lion and Peugeot name.

Anybody know what year/model I have here? I can take better pix if anyone is interested.

I bet miamijim would know.

anixi 09-18-13 01:41 PM

^I believe it's a 1972 UE-18.

noglider 09-18-13 01:44 PM

I think it's a UE-18, and it was not originally a 5-speed. It had two shifters that mounted with one boss. The band went around the boss; the right shifter mounted on the boss. The band had its own boss on the left for the left shifter.

It's French; so that makes complete sense now that I think about it. :)

noglider 09-18-13 02:00 PM

Click and Clack, the funny car guys said there are three types of engine configurations: there's front engine with a rear wheel drive. There's rear engine with rear wheel drive. And there's front engine with front wheel drive. As far as we know, there has never been a car with rear engine and front wheel drive, but if anyone ever produced it, it would be the French.

Yes, but everyone else beat me to it. Early 70's UE18, originally a 10s with the goofy DT shifters as mentioned by 'noglider'.

I was a initially a facilitator for this (no one from here) buy they backed out late. So I guess I have an enormous Coppi :D

That looks like an interesting bike. Your size?

toytech 09-18-13 02:19 PM

Way big for me, I ride 55-56cm. Frame has patina but polished up pretty nice after tear down.

brandenjs 09-18-13 04:10 PM

I will usually just walk right by any type of dept. store bike, but this one made me take a second look. What I spotted were the lugs and the San Marco saddle. On a closer look I found the badge stating it was made in Austria (I'm assuming by Puch). As far as I can tell it is a late 60's Sears 10 Speed Racer. From reading a few things on here these were pretty nice rides back in those days. Not interested in flipping to make anything on it, just thought it was cool and all original. Even has the original bar tape in decent condition with Puch end caps and Simplex components. Needs a thorough cleaning and refurbish.

I would have walked right by this one...very nice catch! Or, at the very least, very INTERESTING catch!

$5 saved this Triumph from the dump today. Nothing special, and it's too small for me, but it's going to be my initiation into taking apart and rebuilding a bike. Can't wait to learn!

Pull these two from a town wide rummage sale. They were $20 each and the only road bikes there. There is not a lot of info on them it appears, but they are also just generic late 70's/early 80's CCM road bikes, so I wouldn't expect too much. They are a pair of Corsa 10's. Cottered cranks, downtube shifters, Shamano Thunderbird 2 front derailleurs and Eagle 2 rear derailleurs. One is missing a fender, I kinda like the white one.

I've found a couple lately, but I had one of the most depressing days that I have had in a long time. I went to a thrift store that I have had good luck with and saw a gentleman rolling out with a mid 80's Trek 500 series with a full Shimano 600 group. The sticker on the seat said $30. If I would have only gotten there 10 minutes earlier. I guess only us guys who have a vintage addiction can understand how that feels. :)

I've been successful approaching those lucky people with a generous offer. Many times, they are flea marketeers, just interested in a fast profit. I've bought them from people that were still in line waiting to pay, to out in the parking lot, or whatever. You just have to ignore the great deal they got, and instead, focus on what a good deal would be to you.

I paid one guy $50 just to have the pleasure of paying for the bike (he beat me by all of 5 seconds). He had not paid for it yet. Struck up a conversation, turned out, he really just wanted the saddle (plush cushy kind). So I paid him $50, paid the store their asking price, and gave him the saddle. Sometimes, people want the bike for themselves. But other times, they just want to flip it for a quick profit, or in this case, just wanted the saddle. So I paid him the $50, paid Goodwill another $10 for the bike (its original price tag) and got myself a nice Bianchi Limited, that I flipped later for a nice profit. Oh, I did have to find a saddle for it, but a Bianchi racing bike with a big cushy Bell saddle was not going to work anyway.

Yea, I should have done that. Lesson learned and a missed opportunity. There will always be another prize out there to be found. It sure was nice though.

sloar 09-25-13 11:55 AM

guy had this buried in his garage, told me i could have it if i pulled it out. not to bad of a little cruiser.

If you weren't in WV, I would ask you why you didn't introduce yourself. When I was loading this into the car after paying $30 for it, a gentleman asked if I knew what I had. I replied yes, a mid 80's Trek Professional with 531 tubing. I think he was going to an an offer until he found out I knew what it was.

Sadly this has been my one and only flip for the past year.

Nope that wasn't me, but a very similar situation. I was in the Baltimore area. The one he picked up was a little older. All it said across the top tube was 500 Series with the older style 600 group. As best as I can date it would be a 1985 520, but it doesn't matter now. Snooze ya lose.

curbtender 09-26-13 02:49 PM

Hubs are worth 100, did you mean ceramic bearings?

chapel 09-26-13 08:26 PM

no, the rims are ceramic coated
