06 or 07 (I think) Giant Boulder steel frame 45 bucks from a family moving and selling everything. I went there to get a freezer and...

(1991?) Diamondback Centurion TG Expert, supposedly the direct descendant of the Iron Man, as Centurion was morphing into the Diamondback brand. Anyway, just under 24 lbs, very few miles, and a nice catch at $50. All Shimano RX100, not 105.

I love buying bikes in the wealthier neighborhoods, "What's a nice old road bike worth?" "I dunno, list it in the paper for $50, I guess." Their garage also had a nice supply of heavy-looking 'comfort bikes' looking fresh off the Costco showroom floor.

My buddy was clearing out his parents shed and behind the shed in his yard. He found 2 bikes. 1 yellow Kia which needs lots of work. And this 1979 Nishiki Century which needed some TLC and new parts.

Here it is before (actually the picture doesn't let you see how messed up everything is) It needed all new cables, housing, handlebar tape, wheels, tires, chain, rear freewheel (cassette) pedals and will get a new seatpost and seat at some point.

And here it is now. (without the new seat/post) All built up for my friends 12 year old son. I just did like 2-3 miles on it myself and it rode really nice considering Im used to my carbon rides.

Serial pointed to it being a 21" 1980 Trek 610. Too small for me, and already had a buyer, so I hope he's happy with the 531 frame. Swapped out the Derailleurs, headset, nitto stem and tires and sold it for $150 the next day.

A true jewel (wow is this thing pretty, NO idea what I'm going to do with it. Might just look at it for a while. Paperweight?):

...except your papers will blow away!

Wins all around. You made a few bucks, got some nice parts and the current owner got a good deal on a nice bike.

I found this late '70's Moto Grand Touring at a Goodwill wearhouse a week ago. I was stunned to find it there as they have been having krappy bikes lately lol. I got it for a steal at $15 lol It was dirty and all but the stuff was there and everything works. Simply amazing. I spent an entire week kleaning it. Just took it to my LBS for a new rear tube, trued the rims and adjusted the brakes. Rides good and all and I'm keeping it :D

A seat designed for easy riding, it is meant to be 90 degrees opposite of how it appears in the pictures. Perpendicular to the axis of the bike.

IthaDan 07-08-13 05:54 AM

... Or a speedo bathing suit.

You did as well as those TV dudes, the American Pickers!

Nice find, I paid 4X as much for the very same GT and not as clean, with crappy handlebars and cracked rear rim. You have original spec Weinmann concave rims. But then again you don't have a priceless BBC (Budget Bicycle Center) decal on your bike.

Not for certain, but I picked it up at the Ann Arbor swap in April, the vendors had a big Hertz truck from Wisconsin, and the only clean item on the frame was the BBC decal, as evidenced below:

Thats funny that episode aired 4 days ago and I watched it when I was cleaning the bike lol

Yes it does have both of the Weinmann aluminum concave rims with Normandy hubs. Heck even the original Weinmann brake pads are still on the front and rear and they both have plenty of life yet. Quite amazing.
