I offset [some of the] cost trips with the bikes I pick up. Last summer I went down to the jersey shore for a family vacation, along the way I picked up a miyata pro, a nishiki tri-a and a centurion something. The profit from the three of them more than paid for the logistics of the trip. Now the hotel room, that's a different story. I LIKE chasing bikes around, it gives me a chance to see parts of my area that I wouldn't see otherwise. I tend to stay on highways, blue highways, but highways no matter, to get from place to place. Who knows where a bike will wind up. |

This thread is getting way too high brow.
Here's my daughter's "new" campus beater, to live in the bike rack 24/7 once it's gone over and receives a new chain. Her other bike was pinched last year, so if the thieves are this desperate they can have it. Price was as right as it gets. |
picked up this sweet bianchi along with some grail stuff, i will post pictures later sometime, but at the moment this black and celeste bianchi will have to do.
Specs are 30cm ctc with a 30 cm tt, chainless, japanese components, paint is mint. http://torontovintagebikes.com/wp-co...1-1024x768.jpg bianchi girl, you jelly?! j/k |

Been awhile since I have been here, but I just scored this '85 Peugeot Triathalon from our scrap metal dumpster at work. Myself and another co-worker both tried to buy this bike site unseen from another co-worker of ours over a year ago when we found out he had it. We were both meet with a resounding no. So here it ends up in our metal dumpster, the guy just didn't want it anymore after he mounted a small gas motor on it for awhile. My other co-worker who origianlly wanted it just doesn't have the time for it and tipped me off, and I promptly retrieved it.
It's actually in decent shape, and has most of the original pieces on it, but is missing a few. It is my first lightweight bike, and I look foward to fixing it up and riding it----ALOT. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=344068 |

Gotta love the Italian racers, for sure.
The Peugeot looks like it will turn (back) into a very nice bike. I like the Bianchi clock, too. But the prize for this page goes to the mixmaster. That's a beautiful machine. What does it weigh, and how does it ride? |

The finding has been pretty thin, so my standards for projects has lowered a bit. I usually will not pick up BMX bikes, but this little GT Hybrid looked pretty cool. It has Suntour Accushift AX2000 pieces on it and a 3 speed freewheel. It can be cleaned up pretty well. I just couldn't let it sit for $5. You can't see it in the pictures, but the paint has a pretty cool pearl color to it. Anyone know anything else about these.

1996 Basso Gap from C/L -- got a decent deal. Thomson seatpost/Arione, Stronglight Delta, Mavic Classics Elite front wheel. Want to put 9 speed DT shifting on this one. Been missing a straight up road bike.

A lonely little bat-bike from CL yesterday. I wasn't even the first to look at it.
Components are '91, so I'm guessing it's a '92 Basso Laguna. Needs a lot of cleanup, but I bet it's happy to be right side up again! http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...9&d=1380995047 (actual size of the CL photo) Adjusted to my size, but needing a bunch of clean up. http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...0&d=1380995052 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=344319http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=344320 http://i.imgur.com/8x6UDLjl.jpg Album- http://imgur.com/a/1JSTI#0 I really wish mine hadn't been repainted- I have no idea if it's a trek 5000, or a basso, or any of the other brands aegis made these for. |
Yeah it's a 7/64" allen or something close to it that's equally daft. I have mine in my tool box wrapped in a rubber band so I don't try to use it on anything else.
Bizarre critters, these. Edit: It's really weird, mine had equally lazy pictures in the craigslist ad. I think this one was in the sporting goods section as well. I got it for a song. http://i.imgur.com/4Sfk2Sc.jpg http://i.imgur.com/zVRJ7Mf.jpg http://i.imgur.com/B1qJxZD.jpg http://i.imgur.com/zVRJ7Mf.jpg |

No road trip is complete without bringing home a bike or two. This time, its two plus a trainer.
The second is a late 1980s Burley Duet Tandem. Looks great from a distance, up close, the frame tubes have quite a bit of surface rust. Nothing deep or troubling, but enough it will need a cleanup and repaint http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3737/9...b89c1f26_b.jpg TB |
Found this 1981 DX-4000 at a yard sale. Looks like it's almost all original with Arabesque group.

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2862/1...f51f6bc5_z.jpghttp://farm3.staticflickr.com/2890/1...a71d59f1_z.jpg . I have a DX-3000 frame that I got in a free-pile, with a nice selection of parts. The only dislike is the the fork can only clear rather skinny tires. |
I currently am in Soprano's land in northern NJ. Tonight, on my way back from Wayne after looking at a Fuji Mixte that didn't pan out, I was heading to the pizzeria via a route I haven't taken in years. Although it was pitch black, on the side of the road lurked a huge pile of trash with some BSOs. Well I doubled back and picked the Fuji Sagres off the top of the pile.
Valite goodness, just my size 57cm. I've been looking for a frame for a beater errand bike that I can ride into Detroit and not worry about it if it's parked out of my site. This maybe better than a beater Centurion Lemans frame that I think is all high tensile. The Fuji seems lighter. Seatpost and stem move freely. Only the derailleur cables seem frozen in the suicide levers. Two years ago, I trash picked a late 1980's Schwinn Traveler on my way to the pizzeria too. https://dl.dropbox.com/s/f816k84pavg...2019.56.31.jpg https://dl.dropbox.com/s/f3zfo6ztfd5...2019.56.39.jpg |

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...ps14fcfd9b.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...pseb642ba6.jpg Japanese market children's bicycles are also commonly equipped with 3 speed derailleur gears so it might have been intended for that market. |
