Pulled this Gitane out of the trash today. To big for me, but it will make someone a nice cheap bike when I'm done with it. I've been on a roll with blue bikes lately.

Okay, so it's not a bicycle, but it's a classic, and kinda vintage. Stanley belt sander. Looks like it was thrown out of hell for bad behavior, but it still works.
I don't normally bother with appliances, but the sanding belt was shot and the cable looks dodgy, so I figured the odds were good there was nothing else wrong with it. And that seems to be the case! It's barely comparable, but we still have and use a 55-year-old electric hand mixer. It's not pretty, but still works great. |

I grabbed this three-speed 1972 Raleigh at the auction for $105 CDN. Everything original. Will clean up nicely. Really excited about it. I love the metallic orange. I've searched online but haven't found a similar model. Maybe it's a unique export to Canada. Anyone who could enlighten me, please do.

Any guesses as to the age of it?

Metallic orange makes for a wonderful colour on a bike! This could be an export model to Canada, they used a wider range of colour son those they sent abroad. Close up pics please!

Up date pic of the baseball guy bike. Added alloy wheels stem shifters. Need to replace derailers and chain and done. I like the ride though. http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...psw7bkf2pj.jpg

Found in the trash. A free Free Spirit!
http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps3fn2oief.jpg It came with these unusual, homemade(?) saddle bags. Has anyone ever seen something like this? http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/s...psgpertsui.jpg http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/s...psbqtaacg3.jpg |
Nice shape, those bags are too cool, it was worth rescuing just for those.

Given to me today from a friend of my father. Schwinn World Sport.
http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/s...psh75hevxe.jpg http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/s...psigoed2pw.jpg It's missing a few parts, and is way too large for me, but I'll do something with it! :thumb: |
Found on the curb with "FREE" sign on 'em. Murray rigid MTB's. One 24" and one 26". After only an hour or so tune up, both are now ready to sell/give away.

I was tearing down a hedge/fence when I came across something that wasn't hedge or fence. It was this, 50's I'm guessing, ladies step through cruiser in an advanced state of decay. All the soft parts of the seat were gone eaten by rats I suppose and tons of rust with just a hint of the original blue paint and a part of a Los Angeles City Bicycle License tag. No head badge or screw holes chrome capped front fork, 2 thin top tubes, and seat stays that look like they fit into an eyelet which loops around the seat tube. Long chrome chain guard has rear fender but the front is long gone. Something is compelling me to fix this thing up. Looks like old 26 x 1 3/8 rims with a sweet German Komet rear hub with the chrome in serviceable shape as well as most of the other chrome. Ideas, comments, or info welcome. I've also considered just clear coating the rust and sanitizing all the bearings and running gear sort of a patina bike but the jury is still out on that.

Stem shifters on backwards otherwise spotless!
and that is how the shifters are positioned on it. |
Found this in the $5 bin at the co-op, and they gave it to me for 2.50 because it's missing a limit screw. It'll go on the next build.

Sounds like a great community bike. Good on you.
Original photos on pg 485 I still havent figure out how to use this listserve so that it has continuity. Thought you would like to know.... I did rebuild the bike, did a little rust removal on the chrome and paint, new tires and tubes, and then posted it for sale, cheap on CL. Got a response from an elder, who rode the bus for over hour and a half, to come get the bike and take it (by bus with bike rack) home. It was the same bike he rode as a kid, and was delighted to have it! Really fun to see him pedaling around the parking lot of the Bus Station where I met him about 1/2 way. |
