Not a bike, but an equally nice find for me. Been looking for one locally off and on since the movie came out. This dropped in my lap the other day, free!:D,,,,BD

I was the big Lebowski for Halloween! Thats a score.

Glennfordx4 11-07-13 07:40 AM

I was going thru a dry spell finding anything ( not even beaters or parts) then between the 2nd & 4th I picked up 11 bikes 2 bike stands & a double headed axe ( came with 6 bikes & the stands ). The most notable bikes are, a 60cm road bike with Mafac Canti's ( started it's own ID thread), a Murray heavy weight, a Miyata Competition 512, a Lotus Excelle and a Gary Fisher with a Nexus inter 7 rear hub that works good.

The Miyata was given to me after a friend found it in the trash, it has white paint splashed all over it that looks to be from a mishap in a garage. The paint cleans right off and it will be a nice bike once done. The Lotus was from my boss who just had it hanging outside in the weather, I took it and will clean and polish it all up before returning it to him so he can see how nice it is.

I was going to be, had everything but the wig, and couldn't find one without paying full price for it. It wasn't in the budget this year. Maybe next year?,,,,BD

Finding a pair of size eleven "Jellies" sandals was impossible, thank goodness:lol:

The trick is to already have the hair. All I did was put on a robe and drink White Russians.

You're right about the Miyata 512, the paint cleaned off completely to reveal it's in great condition.

This weird, because I just got a 512 yesterday at a pawn shop...yes, a pawn shop for $45 (I have bike and car radar eyes, I saw the bike speeding by at 45mph hanging on a bike rack with others! wasn't sure what it was but it looked sort of vintage when I passed by) And the bike I got is exactly the same color as the one GlenFord got. According to the Miyata catalogue the bike is unmolested too, there is several scratches on the paint but after buffing and waxing it the scratches don't look so bad. It's a tad small for me but I can ride it, however I'm going to clean it up, tune it up, and replace a few items and give it to a friend who's looking for a bike to ride.

Picked up this 1983 Schwinn Super Sport SP today for $60. Tange Champion #2 tubing, chrome under the paint, which is in horrible condition, on the rear triangle. Some stock parts, some not. NGC 400 brakes, Sugino Aero Mighty crankset, Suntour Cyclone Mk-II FD, seatpost, and SR custom stem/bars seem to be original. The Sovos/Weinmann wheelset, Mongoose saddle, platform pedals, aero bars, and Shimano Aero brake levers are not original. What really caught my eye was the Campy Pat. 83 Super Record RD, obviously not original. Probably worth the price of admission by itself.

Anyway, these are obviously as found pictures. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures.

83ish was when they were starting to get decent, and the derailleur was worth the purchase. Pretty nice catch all around, really:D.,,,,BD

I think I'm going to try to use the sale or trade of the campy RD to supply most of the parts I need to complete the super sport, so if anyone has a 6-speed wheelset and/or cyclone/superbe rd...

Edit: see pics a couple posts downhttp://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=349891http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=349892

While not as cool as most bikes on here, I'm pretty stoked! I may have very well saved this one and its twin from the dump, the people were having a four hour garage sale friday, and gave the impression that anything left was getting trashed. It's the same bike in both pics but I got another one exactly like it as well, one 19" one 21". So far Ive overhauled the headset and opened up the shifters on the 19" and freed them up, they weren't working due to old dry grease. I bought both for $10.00 and the guy threw in a new set of tubes, I think he would have given them to me for even less if I would have offered less, they were glad to get rid of them. I'm pretty sure the bikes have less than a 100 miles or so on them because the rotten tires looked unused, unfortunately they were left outside for a long time, but it's pretty dry here in Co. so they will clean up well. These bikes are pretty nice for entry level bikes, they are light chromo frames. They have exactly the same groupo as my wife's early 90's hardrock, but I'm pretty sure they are lighter in spite of the fact they they are bigger. (sorry I know the pics are lousy, but hey, what can a lousy photographer do!?)

I can totally see them now. That's what I would call a great start on a drop-bar conversion!

Got from CL today guy asking $100, traded for some car audio:
http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps5f9a224f.jpg
Handle bars are unfortunate, seller thought these were original, and thought the bike was a 2002 model, lol
http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps2006c5c6.jpg
Sugino Post is scratched up quite badly, I'm not sure if some of them are too deep to get out fully:
http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps64196b5d.jpg

frame is about 2CM too short, but the top tube is just right so I think this will make a good home for the Ultegra/Dura Ace 9 speed stuff I have along with some neuvation m28 wheels

Nice bike, the handlebars have got to go but you can find nice bars from Nitto that would look original, as well as a seatpost from Nitto to get rid of that scratched up one.

French Gypsy

I picked up this nice old French Gypsy with some very nice vintage parts. There is a 72 stamped near the seat post, so I assume it's a 1972. It came with Fiamme pista rims and Campy Hubs, Old steel Cinelli Milano stem, and Cinelli pista bars. Cranks were Maxy cranks with Piste Marcel Berthet Lyotard pedals and cages. Saddle was a 1980's Concor Super.

Is that 72 on a lug? if so, that may be the angle of the lug, in degrees. Nice paint, and a fine looking bike.

I haven't found a bicycle deal at a thrift store in years. Today was half price day, so I wentt to support my wife's consignment clothing business (we pretty much always can find sellable clothing). Of course, just in case, I headed over to the bike area to check it out. WTF? Four decent bikes, at really low prices. Quick call to the wife, as I could not grab four at once, and then directly to the checkout. Two Trek mtbs, one a 930, and a couple of basic road bikes (Fuji Gran Tourer and Schwinn Sprint). Sure, I have sworn off mtbs, but the 930 had nice STX components, newish road tires, good pedals, etc. The 820 was a cool metallic green, good pedals, shifters, decent tires. The road bikes were rough, but the paint was good on both of them, the Fuji had a nice crankset and a Suntour Vx long cage RD, etc.

This 1976 Raleigh Record Mixte was left unsold at a yard sale and in a pile at the end of the laneway for garbage. I spoke to the owners, they let me leave the bike overnight as we were on our way to dinner out with friends and had no room in the car. I handed her $5 for her trouble and being so nice about it. I took the van over the next morning and picked it up.

Its missing some parts but could be fixed up. I needed some Raleigh parts so it was a good deal for me. It will now have a future, I just don't know what that is yet.
