ammonia may break the bond (assuming it's aluminum in steel)

A 4' pipe wrench gives you more leverage than a seat. Just sayin'. Dry ice, introduced in chunks through the BB shell, can also work.

Had a good day yesterday craigslistin'

Got one of these (pic taken with tire is already off, totally sticky and nasty). Looks like a '74 Raleigh superbe to me-

One of these. '72(?) Schwinn Sports tourer, a fillet brazed, double butted oddity from the chicago factory-

and these-

The 610 was a facilitation for forums user Canopus and the 412... who knows what I have planned for that one.

thanks for all the suggestions

94 Bridgestone XO-4

Rescued from the clutches of the compactor at work...had to buy it for a buck though.
It's a 1994 Bridgestone that had two different colors of spray paint over the original Midnight blue paint.
All stripped and primed... And in the process of ordering some decals/stickers for it. No 'XO-4' decals out there...anywhere!
Gonna let the primer sit there all winter, thinking about just clear coating over the primer...Brown primer is a nice color.
Also looking for some arc styled handlebars for it. Saw some on amazon but not quite the same as the original. Also read here, only like a thousand of these were made before Bridgestone shut down its bicycle factories...any truth in that?

Not sure if I want to go to the trouble to rebuild it or just flip it on craigslist. The paint is in pretty rough shape in a few spots and I don't have the parts lying around. On the other hand, it looks like it fits me and could be a good project if I can find the parts cheaply.

love that frame

I have a road bike frame that looks similar, the way it's put together. It was made in Germany in the early 70's, and is in great condition. I rebuilt it, frame up, but left it as a 1x7 with friction shifters. I must say, even as a late model and steel frame, it rides excellent.

Grabbed this from Craigslist today. A 1986 Univega Gran Rally. It has the full 600 group including pedals, headset and stem. It even still has the original Univega toe straps. It is missing the rear wheel and the owner said he had taken it to a bike shop to get a spoke replaced and never got it back (not sure what that was about). Not a bad grab for $50.

A phone call to the shop brought me three free bikes, a dept store magna, a Raleigh Record, and a 3 speed Robin Hood, all already passed thru my hands to someone else, but here's a photo of the Robin Hood head badge which I thought was cool.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=280927http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=280928The bikes were all in rather poor overall shape, so they went to another reseller, who fixes the low end stuff.

Like I needed a tandem, but this Burley Duet was just too good of a deal. Of course, it needs a full rehab: bearings, grease, cables, housings, tires, a handful of rusty fasteners, saddles, bar tape, etc.

I am guessing this one is 1990+/-, based on Suntour 7 speed indexed drivetrain.

Too bad your so far from the coast, I could likely bribe my brother to schlepp that north in his RV.

Thanks wrk. This bike has hardly been ridden and kept inside it's whole life. It is cleaning up like brand new. I was thinking of flipping it, but I really think I need this in my stable. Would maybe consider trading it for a nice older tandem though.:)

Yard sale junker

I found this at a yard sale. It was in such bad shape I couldn't make out the brand. I almost scrapped it for parts, but decided to save it (that's my hobby). The lady told me it was retired from a bike rental shop in Sunriver, Oregon. That's all I know. I don't know what I'll do with it, since it's a woman's bike, but I REALLY like how it rides! A fresh paint job, and new almost everything, and it's good for a few hundred more miles.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=281620http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=281621
