I'm out of space. I had to choose between the two and the Kona fits in with my other 80's/90's mountain bikes. I already have a drop bar conversion project in the works so something has to go.

Picked these up today for free from an older couple who haven't ridden in 10 years. They wanted to make space in their garage. The Kona is a '96 and as always it's my size so going to keep that. Just need to find a closer to oem stem as it was replaced with a riser. And of course replacing the bars and saddle but other than that, the frame is in excellent shape, definitely just street ridden. The Novara will be flipped as I don't ride hybrids. Repair stand is a keeper as a back up. Pump will be another back up. The rest will be donated.

Picked up this interesting Caloi Pro frameset yesterday. I can't seem to find any info about its original spec, but I'm most likely going to build it up as an ultralight flatbar road bike.

^^^^^ Holy crap! What a score, a lot of facts, info and argument settling going on there. ;)

A treasure trove indeed!

Picked-up a couple of freebies today to stock up on parts. The most notable was this Joe Murray designed Marin Bear Valley. Pretty beat-up but still straight and most oem parts are still on it. The top tube decals were just little snips left but after an hour of research I came the conclusion it's a Bear Valley. An '87. Check out what someone did with the front brakes. Oh the humanity! lol

Regarding the front brake, it's hard to tell, but it looks like they shoved a caliper brake on the fork and didn't even bother to remove the cantilevers. Is that what I'm seeing??!!

Picked up a Rockhopper to flip yesterday, and noticed a SUN SYSTEMS decal on the seat post.
Co-branding it says here, just interesting to me: "Published on October 27, 1999. Menlo Park, Calif.--In a bid to demonstrate the power of the networked manufacturer, Sun Microsystems has entered a co-branding agreement with Specialized Bicycles, Morgan Hill, Calif. Under the agreement, a ``designed by Sun'' logo will appear on all Specialized products and packaging. The 25-year-old bicycle manufacturer recently upgraded its network computing infrastructure and now uses Sun's Java technology to make its products available over the Internet. The Sun-Specialized co-branding deal, the first between Menlo Park, Calif.-based Sun and a consumer products company, also calls for Sun to sponsor the Specialized Mountain Bike team, which features Olympic gold medallist Bart Brentjens and world champion Shaun Palmer. Sun said the Specialized deal is an outgrowth of its successful ``We're the dot in .com'' business-to-business campaign, launched in 1998." |

Pretty cool stuff there. Specially since Sun is gone.

Has anyone here ever found a LeMond head badge? I have one of Trek's LeMond frames, it's a Ti frame that would have been a warranty/replacement frame but Trek sold off to local shops after they had their falling out, apparently.
I've been looking on eBay for years and I can never find anything but decals. |
Not like for anymore bikes, but I couldn’t resist the price on this one.

Gitane, Franken-Gitane
5 Attachment(s)
Here is what a casual conversation in a retail store (and $40) resulted in. I got to taking to a dude that worked in a store near me. He said he was moving and needed to clean out his shed. Light went on: "do you have any old bikes". The result was a Franken-Gitane from the early 1970s. Its got a mix of parts; Simplex Prestige RD, Suntour Supurbe Pro FD, Stronglight Cranks, Mafac Competition brakes. The frame was re-painted by "Cycle Works" with Imron per a decal. Frame is too big for me but parts with be useful.
