This thing has been yard art at a neighbor's place for at least the 11 years we've lived here and I found it at the curb after landscaping people removed the tree trunk it had been leaning against. I posted a pic of that pose years ago. Anyway, I never got close to it before and would not have bothered to bring it home except that it's a very early Schwinn Continental with a three-piece crank and a chainwheel denoting its Arnold, Schwinn & Co origins. The bike is probably older than I am, being a 1950 model myself.
I don't want it but I figure one of you guys might, so PM me.

He was going to have his yard guys come back and take it to the dump so this was a literal save. I shot some lube into the headset and crank and they move surprisingly well, a shock after at least a decade outdoors. I can get more detailed pix. The chainguard and nice-looking fork appear to be chromed. I hope someone wants it for its history because its looks will indicate "junk" to a mere civilian.
Closest thing I've found to it in the catalogs. Pretty impressive specs for a bike that old but this Continental might not be as good. Don't let it go to waste.

To help with the identification I got a couple more pix. Removing the headbadge reveals a medium metallic blue paint that is probably original. Dropped one of those two tiny screws, of course, and will likely never see it again.

Same blue shows where the bolt-on kickstand was. No built-in Schwinn unit here so either the frame predates that usage or was a nice enough frame not to get one.

Folks over on The Cabe seem to think it's a '42-ish Schwinn New World bike with a badge swap and later fenders. Serial number offers only a general idea since a factory fire in the forties destroyed all the records. Not important but it would be nice to know, and I've already invested too much energy into a bike I don't intend to keep. Let me know if you want it.

Parts box find

took a chance on a parts box for twenty bucks when I spotted the seat collar in a photo. They wanted 20$ or they were just gonna pitch it. Turnes out to be a nice little surprise

Well, has two wheels...spotted in a cleanup pile on today's ride. Still there when I drove back. Wheels were flat but they hold air.

Very cool. We have a plywood-and-conduit Garden Way cart that gets a lot of use, plus a molded four-wheel Gorilla Cart. The folding feature is really nice.

Not me, but my son... Grabbed this Gitane (Tour de France?) from an industrial equipment auction. Yes, the net was part of the lot.

i was out doing my ususal saturday thrifting route, and this '85 Ross Hi-Tech Mt. St. Helens (286-2525) caught my eye as I was leaving a thrift store. even though i have a soft spot for Ross, i initially walked away. however, as i got to my car, i thought 'will i be thinking about this the rest of the day (probably)', 'will i 'regret' not buying it (probably)', 'will it be here next time (unknown)', 'do i *need* another bike when i'm trying to get rid of bikes (no)'. in the end, the 'will i regret not buying it (probably)' thought won out, so i walked back and as i got closer to the store i saw someone looking at it (hoping at the same time that they'd buy so i couldn't, and not buy it so i could, ugh the battles in my head), they walked away, so i grabbed the tag and went inside to buy it. it's dusty and dirty, but looks to has solid bones underneath. it's too big for me, but i still comfortably rode it with the seatpost slammed as seen. pic is 'as purchased' other than me having aired the tires and riding it around the yard a bit. when i took the 'grab on' seat cover off, the original Ross saddle was underneath. not sure of this bike's fate at this point.

Bikes: Motobecane Grand Record, Motobecane Super Mirage (3x5 speeds), Motobecane Mirage, Atala (unknown model), Peugeot mixte frame Tourist. A bunch more kids bikes. Most recently a Trek Verve One, tricked up for semi-serious touring.
Assuming that you gave the $20 pitch, this was a great find. Lots of ways to go with it: add new stuff, put whatever you have to attach on it or get on Facebook or eBay to get the rear wheel. Saddle looks a bit sad though...
On my way to Herbor Freight to price a pancake compressor, I need one now with ALL the bikes I have and my 95 Jeep.
I get 3 houses away from my driveway when I see a box…
I stop, push it, it’s heavy, lift the lid and inside is the object of my desire! Unused, never been out of the box compressor ready to be hauled back to my house. Only thing I need is a hose and air attachment. $16 at harbor freight for the kit.
Went to check to see if they sell 1 1/8 ball homes for seat tubes, they don’t!

A much needed save from the dump!

A little dirty, but pretty much in 1987 original condition as purchased from the gentleman that built it when he was 17 when he worked in the bike shop. 1987 Cannondale SR400 and you have to love a Zefal frame pump and Cateye Micro computer still in the box. Not super rare, but cool bikes and will be an easy restore.

Got a wheel for $6 and tax (after old veteran's discount) at a local thrift, today. There were actually two wheels. The other was also a front wheel, skewer ready. a little wider, double walled, but a little crunchy when spun. While I could service the hubs, I was without the trailer today and it would've been a little harder to strap on the bike. What I got was absolutely trued and spun like silk. Great back up wheel for the Armata
Anyway, not knowing too much about rims and hubs, what did I get (quality-wise) here?

Just picked this one up today:

From the few minutes of internet searching I did it appears to be a 1993 Raleigh MT 500, all original, unmolested condition. Full Shimano Deore LX M560, 3 x 7 components.
It’s been sitting out in the sun a while; long enough to fade the anodizing on the bar, stem, and seatpost at least. Good news is the seatpost and bottom bracket are not seized up, bad news is that the fork is absolutely seized up.
Technium frame is aluminum front bonded to Tange Prestige rear….
now, what to do with it?

I just keep getting these bikes dropped in front of me. Couldn't turn down this 1990 Diamondback (Centurion) Venture. Not their high end model, but a pretty solid bike and pretty decent condition. Worth the $15 I guess.

I had one of those a few years back and was most impressed with it! I managed to cram 35 mm tires up there and rode it that way for a while, including a season of it being my mount for a Clunker Challenge 100. Well worth $15, especially if it fits!
