Looks like a 1982. Pretty high up on the Fuji "totem pole", originally costing about $400. Might want to send them over a nice bottle of wine and a thank you card. Really, really, really nice bike!

Awesome catch Tom, I really like the decal/color scheme. Is the RD a Suntour ARX? That was a little suprising.
So is this one possibly a keeper?

"I appreciate that catalog lookup very much, and I also will follow your advice. The woman who gave it to me is a friend of a friend. The reason she gave it to me and not someone else is that she heard about my charity. But it's not a real charity, and now that I'm underemployed, I am charging for bikes, but I'm sure I'll continue to donate bikes to needy people. My neighbors have been PLEADING with me to sell them my bikes, so who am I to say no, right?"
Noglider, if you ride a 23"/58CM frame, and that bike is "sound", I'd consider saying "no" to selling it. Looks like a "keeper" to me. Fujis are fantastic, and that is a higher-end model.

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's/60's road bikes.
That Fuji is nice. I have the '85 (blue/yellow). I dusted it off for a 30 miler yesterday and remembered how much I liked it. It is every bit as fun to ride as my Opus III. The Team is certainly a keeper for me...unless I can find one a size larger.

My ideal size is 22" so I can ride a 23" easily. I will ride it to see how it is, but I currently have TWO super-nice road bikes. One is my pride-and-joy which was made in 1982 and I bought (as a raw frame) in 1984. It's a McLean. Not many were made, which makes it a collector's item, and the maker died suddenly at the age of 29.
The other is a Surly Cross Check which I built up only a month or two ago.
So the Fuji is nice, but not as nice as either of the others.
And since I've become a bike collector, I think it's important not to get too attached to too many bikes, right?
Yes, it appears to be a SunTour ARX. Is that not original?
It has some sort of SPD type pedal, so clearly they've been replaced. I think I'll keep the pedals. Not sure what I'll put on the bike.

I bet the ARx is original, I guess I just expected something like a cyclone. That sounds like good sense on you part as far as keepers are concerned. I on the other hand can usually get attached to any old piece of junk.

I picked up a 1986 Schwinn Cimarron frameset, w/original BB, cranks, and derailers today. It's way too small for me at 18" but it was too nice to let slip between my fingers. I'm cameraless right now so no pics (sorry) but it was a sweet score. It's in pretty good shape, obviously the requisite paint nicks/small rust spots but will make a sweet rider for someone.
I just posted it in the for trade thread since it's waaay too small for me.

Guess it was a Fuji day! I found a new 1983 Del Ray . If this bike has much more then 50 miles on it I would be surprised. Put air in the tires and riding it around already. Thought about riding it to work tomorrow it feels so nice but I really should service the bearings first.
Yesterdays score was a 1990 Mongoose IBOC Comp. Other then the rotten tires and rusted chain it is not in that bad of shape. Missing its original RD and has a set of Scott trekking bars on it with Yeti grips. Bought it for the cranks and didn't notice the center ring was wore out. Maybe I will get lucky at the Co Op and find one. Might just see if I have a better set of used tires I can throw on it and flip it if the chain isn't skipping on the ring.

I know, my mustache looks like handlebars, so I need handlebars to match it. But alas, no high wheeler yet. Today in the holy grail thread, I finally confessed what my holy grail bikes are: a men's Raleigh Sports and a high wheeler.

I haven't had much luck in finding anything lately, but I did pick this up today at a Salvation Army. It is a 64cm 1984 Peugeot PGN10 with Reynolds 501 frame and fork. It must have been a tall dude that had it before. I like the fact that someone has already changed it over to aero levers. It is not in bad shape at all just a good clean up. I can't get away from the Peugeot's. Sorry about the dark pictures.

That's a really good catch, brandenjs. Was the seat that low when you got it? If so, it wasn't a tall dude, it was a dude who thought he ought to have a big bike but wasn't tall enough for that.
If I may ask, how much did you pay for it? Too little, I'm sure.

That is probably the case, the seat post was pretty tight and rusty so it had been there for a while. It had a price of $79 on it and they were having 25% off of all bike. I paid $60 for it. That is usually more than I would pay, but I liked it.

Sure they're worth saving. Strip them as well as you can. Never mind that you'll leave junk on them. You're going to tape over the junk anyway.
That's a nice specimen, in good condition. I love the colors and graphics.

I agree with noglider that they are worth saving. They look to bit Nitto Olympiads. Nice comfortable bars. The radius corners make for nice wrist clearance on the drops. The only visible part is at the stem and that looks fine. Little aluminum poilish on that and call that good.
I like the look of cloth tape but every one I unwrap doesn't look much better then yours. The cloth just holds the water and sweat and that's what you end up with.
I have had good luck with a scotch bright pad to get the chunks off and wipe down with something like disc brake cleaner sprayed on a paper towel to get any oils off it so the new tape will lay smooth and stick if you get the adhesive strip style.
Nice catch.

The local thrift produced a 62cm Shogun today. Serial number starts M9D... which I heard somewhere means it's a '79. What pushed me over the edge to buy it for $12 was the almost complete Shimano 600 Group. The cranks and brake calipers are Tourney and the little top tube housing clamps are Dura-Ace. Pretty cool old ride, should clean up nice. Alloy rims, 6spd freewheel. Brake hoods couldn't be saved. Can't figure if it's Cro-mo or Hi-Ten or a combo of both. Seems lighter than hi-ten, but still not that light, perhaps some low quality cro-mo. Some nice detail around the lugs and like the red housings. Anyhoo... good fun.
