Looking for a Zebrakenko
I am looking for a zebrakenko bicycle or even just the frame. Specifically the Golden Sports one with the lion head badge from the late 70's. I know there aren't many around any more. If anyone has one they would like to sell, please leave me a private message. Thanks.

I had one over the summer, but sold it off after a rattle-can spray job and a conversion to single speed. What size are you looking for?

What city are you in? I almost bought one locally a while back, I think it was listed at $60. Why do you want this particular brand? If you can find one it shouldn't be too much.

Thanks for the reply! A 21" would be ideal. If you happen to find one, I would greatly appreciate a heads up.

I am in NY. It really is for sentimental reasons. I used to own one - purchased new in 79' or so.

Funny to read this, as you do not encounter really much on Zebrakenko normally. Not long ago acquired a Zebrakenko myself. Model 'Olympic Ace' to be precisely, finished in lovely candy apple green. It is partially chromed, for example the top of the aero fork crown. Equipment is 1st gen Dura Ace with Crane rear mech and MKS pedals with leather covered half clips, what makes me believe it was the top of the range model. Condition is exceptionally good, like new. Shiny paint, spotless components. It has that funny Lion headbadge. Actually there is more funny on the bike: The name 'Zebrakenko'. 'Zebra' sounds warm, 'kenko' with the 2 k's very hard. 'Olimpic Ace' is also such name only far eastern manufacurers come up with.
Hope to have pics up soon.
Trueblood, I wish you much luck with your search for your 'Golden Sports'

ok, so I am checking craig's list every day, and am still on the lookout. If anyone hears of a 21" zebra for sale please let me know. I am looking for the older golden sport model or storm with the lion on the head badge "face on" like the one shown on message #2. Thanks.

Finally have pics of the Olympic Ace I wrote about. Inside it looked like candy apple green, outside it is more like Kermit the frog green. The bike is immiculate. It needs a cleaning, possibly a tune up and some more attention here and there, but it is very nice. Almost like never used, but some signs give away it probably has been 'kinda' used at some point. Maybe a demo bike? Testing the waters for Zebrakenko in Holland?
Frame is made with Tange Champion tubing and groupset is early Dura Ace incl Crane mech.

You could call Amity Bicycle Shop (Great "guy"
). They were a dealer many years ago, and Zebra was a club sponsor, so they may have contacts looking to sell:

I have a Zebrakenko Lightning, purchased in Chicago in the early eighties...82 if I remember correctly. But the logo on it is a stylized Z and the word Zebrakenko . It is 22" frame and a dark metalic brown.

Did you ever find a bike? Hey. I have a 20" with the lion head. Dark blue. I am in Queens. I bought this one recently on CL, but the frame size proved a little small for me.

Wow, just when I thought I remember all the bike names I encountered in the past then "Zebrakenko" get mentioned here. totally forgot about this brand amongst the other names like Takara, Nishiki, Sekai...etc.
I thought "Zebras" werevery much like Takaras, but the pics on this thread seems to indicate more like Nishiki quality...am I correct??

Zebrakenko
Trueblood ;
I have a Zebrakenko frame that you may be interested in ..... I believe it measures 27" . I have it in storage and I was going to restore it , but if you could use it , let me know . Headbadge is intact and excellent. All original , paint, etc. If you would like pictures , I would be glad to email.

Some idiot has turned one into a ghetto single speed, but it looks like the frame might be there. Let me know if you want help with it.

I know a homeless fellow that's truly at home on his Z'kenko. The right one has all the blood, and the Noble nut of the Iron Horse...
