help identifying quill pedals

hi there,

i just took some pedals off a late 70's / early 80's Viner and am having trouble identifying them. they are bit worn down so the top stamps are barely visible. as seen in the pic, the stamp "made in italy" is still in tact. i checked velobase, but couldn't find any visual matches. the bike was a shameless mix of gipiemme, campy, and shimano. anyone recognize these?

thanks

Bikes: Denti Scheggia, 1974 holdsworth super mistral as a single speed

just been out to a dark shed and looked at mine. they look like my campagnolo's.
mine have "gran sport" on the middle spindle, "brev campagnolo" on the nut that screws into the crank and the "dust cap" also has campagnolo on it.
mine have "made in italy" in the same place, but the plates are held together by 4 rivets - 2 each side - hope this helps

On Velobase the Notario pedals look very similar to yours

They have the Made In Italy where they are on my Campy Records. The shape is almost spot-on. Curious. Definitely worthy of a good overhauling and some scrubbing/polishing.

Panthers007, You're right! I just went out and had a look at my old Campagnolo Records and they are the same at the bottom. I guess it was the wear on the top rails that make the OP's look different.

the original dust caps were MIA, but mks caps fit perfectly. one reason why i am leaning towards campagnolo. well that and two visible O's from the top stamp at the end. the rest is illegible.

the axles are stamped D and S, but no signs of anything else. i plan on overhauling them, so maybe when i finally take them apart some other stamps will surface.

Campy Gran Sport. Record pedals would have a chromed steel cage held on by 2 rivets at each end (some Gran Sports also used 2 rivets, but no Records used a single swag as illustrated in your picture), and rifling on the spindle. Early Records would also have strap loops on the cage. The rear of the cage (above the flip tab) on Record is just 2 windows, no bolt holes.

Any markings on the axles or cones?

These are Record quill pedals:

I just looked at the OP's photo closer - you are right! I see something smudged in there. This is like a hunt for buried treasure!

thanks. pictures of record models are a plenty. i just had to look at ebay. essentially, i was able to rule out record pretty easily. two things typcially not record are the rivets and the cages. on mine the front and back of the cages are almost identical, whereas record models are much different.

i was unsure if they were gran sport, since images of those are few and far between. velobase has a nuovo gran sport but these are riveted. anyone have pics of gran sports? most i've seen also have the strap loop, but that can be the 60's models.

ps. speedplay has an incredible pedal museum with tons of pictures. from the looks of some i found there, these could very well be ROTO or even WAY - ASSAUTO. Both these versions have very similar cages, albeit without the strap loop.

just disassembled. no markings anywhere.

thanks nuovo_record. i see now that campy stamped the cage on both sides. mine has "made in italy" on one side only. but very odd, the font and position look exactly the same.

very possible given the other components on the bike. i've had trouble finding any pictures, other than the ones at velobase, though.
