Un-flipping-believable....

The seller called me today at around 4 p.m. and asked me if I was still interested in the bike. I saw the posts here from last night, and knew he had a "new" asking price. I said I was and he said he found out the bike was way more valuable, and said he had a new asking price...I said I'd take the bike, and I could be at his house by 6 p.m. He gives me his address, and I'm on my way from work.

Get to his house at about 5:55 p.m....there's no parking out front of his house, so I drive around the block and call him to tell him I'm there and that I'm finding a parking spot. He says no problem, but he's not home, he's about 10 minutes away. I say, again, no problem, but since I'm down the street and around the corner from your house, just call me when you get home and I'll meet you at your front door.

6:30 p.m....after calling him three times and getting to answer and knocking on his door to no avail, I realize he's probably not coming, and I have to get home because my wife has plans tonight and I have to watch the kiddies.

Oh well, I'm glad at least someone from here got it...

Wow! Thats when he went to the bike shop to pick up a presta to shrader adaptor! I was on 40th and Walnut at that time! He called me when he got home and I went over and got the bike! He had called me earlier and asked me if I wanted it because he had another guy coming by to see it but I was the first to reply to the C-List add so I had dibs! Crazy man! What was he charging you for the bike if you don't mind me asking?

It's like "Tales of Craigslist"....

His new price, after finding out the bike was way more valuable, was $100. Please tell me he told you the same (or less)....

Mmmmmm, I had something similar happen to me a couple of weeks ago. A guy had listed an old Trek stationary trainer with some DVDs in the "garage sales" section----not very interesting, right? Well, in the body of the ad, he mentioned that he had an old Marinoni that he wanted to get rid of. I emailed him and, after a few back and forths, we agreed at a price of $200. I called before I was about to leave to pick it up and he didn't answer so I left a message----so I waited and waited and he never got back to me and when I checked CL again, the ad was gone.

Unfair? Yes. Understandable? .......Yes, I have to admit that it is understandable from his point of view. The thing is that the bike was my size and I would not have flipped it. Rats

Trust me! If this bike was my size I'd be happy as a fly in poop! but it's not, I'm still happy 'cause I'm sure it will go to someone here that will enjoy it. now all I have to do is find a tall member with a bike equal to this one but my size!

Sounds like a line of male dogs at the doors of my neighbor's house when their ***** was in heat. Interesting. It was a pedigree, and they didn't want just any dog deflowering her.

Dude, if you have some info for me great, but why jump into the thread out of the blue with nothing to add but a crude comment like that? Remember, some C and V'ers weren't born with the knowledge of all things cycling, so again, if you have some piece of info to add I'd appreciate it.

Beg your pardon, but the intention behind the reference to Numbskull Of The Day was supposed to be a comparison of arrogance shown by Craigslist sellers between the two threads. It was not in reference to you.

My apologies Mr Kurt. Once again I've managed to make an ass of myself.

I have a couple of Canadian Pugs that are pretty close to the pictures of the bike on page 2. One of them is a touring model and doesn't have any tubing decals on it but I am amazed at how light this bike is....it has fenders and a rack and the thing is still just about 20lbs or so. Did any Canuck Pugs get made with 531? Or is this just wishful thinking on my part?

What are you looking for in trade and what size do you ride? Just curious.

I'd like something with a standover of 32" (81.28cm) vintage steel a must, all orig, in as nice shape as the Peugeot.

After a bit of cleaning I found a small piece of paper that is held in place by what appears to be clear tape? on it is typed the following: "5341428 PKN10E64" next to that is a number stamped into the steel, "00215** " I can't make out the last three digits as they are under the clear tape and unreadable.
