You're all a bunch of bottom feeders!

I've been on the other side. Offered a bike at a fair price, and have the potential buyer tell me he'll pay full price if I hold it a few days. I honor the first come, first served principle, only to have the buyer either flake out on me without notice, or come and offer me half of what I'm asking.

It's the craigslist dance. Makes life interesting.

still, might be well worth it (in certain locations).

It may be worth $200 but craiglist isnt an auction site. Should we flag his ad into oblivion.

I've been on that side as well but at least I did some research first. I put a mid-80's C-dale on CL Friday night for $225 with my customary built-in $25 haggle amount. I sold it to the first caller. He showed up, didnt even want to test ride it, handed me $200 and left, all within 3 minutes. What it came down to was that $200 was what I'd was happy getting and I got it. I didnt jack the price up $50 becasue my phone rang right away.

Bikes: A few

Craigslist is free, and I think it's becoming a way for some people to find out what something is worth by the response they get. Still to me not very ethical.

Flag away, I say...

OTOH, people are entitled to whatever folks will pay. I called at about 8 pm last evening, and he didn't tell me that the price had increased. Clearly the bike was worth more than $70 -- I wouldn't have been willing to pay much more than that, simply because I have enough bike projects to last until the middle of the next decade -- but for someone dying to have a decent, vintage Peugeot with components that aren't shabby, it's probably worth $200 to $300 in an urban/university-town market.

I don't like the CraigsList dance either, and have been on the losing end a few times (seller makes an appt., then sells to someone else who shows up first). But I've also gotten some nice loot for (I believe) less than the going rate; so I'm not going to get righteous about CL transaction "ethics."

I'd have been pretty tempted to go look at the $200 bike and offer him $150. It's not the $70 deal he advertized but still pretty good for a major metro area.

But I agree he's not following CL protocol. All he had to do to ballpark the price was watch the ads for a week or two. Or look at completed ebay sales a take a few bucks off.

Believe it or not, some folks don't care that much about vintage bikes (!?) and think they have better things to do with their time than getting involved with market research. He did a lot better than he thought he would. I'm not accusing anyone, but it's not unheard of for such a sale to be a stolen bike too. Then it's all gravy.

This bike is in good condition for its age (late 70's early 80's). It is model Record du monde 22 inches or 55 cm with some scrtaches and could use a cleaning but runs good! $175

Bikes: I hate bikes!

Craigslist=Thunder dome. People make up and play by there own rules. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. No point in complaining or claiming the "moral" high ground.

Just wait another 15mins and something else comes along, like the midnight blue Sports Tourer frame w. fork, headset, stem, post, saddle, dérailleurs & 2 sets of shifters I picked up today for $80. Sometimes thing work out in your favor on CL.

I posted in the other thread... Maybe a match, but I'll let someone who is more knowledgeable like Miamijim to confirm

I'm no Pug expert, but I've been reading a lot lately... Possible match?

It should clean up nicely. Does it fit or did you buy to flip?
Did you pay his "new" asking price?

I'm going to start cleaning it up tomorrow, nothing major yet, just a quicky, it doesn't fit me but I thought I would pick it up and try to get a trade on something like it in my size
