Collectable 1985 Raleigh Pursuit - $700 (U of R)

1985 hand-welded blue frame, 10-speed with head-tube friction shifters and all original or OEM spec parts. The only non-original parts are the chain, bar tape, and cables. Everything else is in excellent working condition. In order to be able to ride on a regular basis, I would recommend cleaning the rim braking surfaces, replacing the brake pads, and replacing the tires. That said, this particular model should be insured for about $2,200, and should probably not be ridden because it's a historically important frame. I'd much prefer to sell it to someone who has some knowledge of the history of Raleigh, and who collects bikes. That said, if someone is willing to pay the asking price, I'm not going to tell you how to use what you buy.

o really?

The are not the specs of a "historically important frame".

Price is ludicrous, but I'll have to say one thing for it - it isn't rusty, it isn't Drewed, and it looks very nice with fenders. What ticks me off is that these things look akin to a Condor touring bike from a distance. Once you get closer to it, harsh reality is revealed.

-Kurt

P.S.: Paramount aficionado, not Schwinn. I gladly got rid of every Varsity and Continental (including the Campus Green '71 Conti) about 7-8 months ago. Electroforging and I don't get along

The bikes (and prices) have been looking a little crummy on Craig's List in this neck of the woods...

What's up with all these ridiculous "vintage" bikes. I think vintage is another word for POS here on Craig's List. It wouldn't be good marketing to sell your piece of sh*t bike so instead you call it vintage.

Do people really get suckered into buying these bikes thinking some day they will be worth more? These bikes come from tag sales people, they are worthless!!!

Reverse Steering Bike - $60

This. Is. Insane.

"I built it, I can't ride. My brain will not allow me to think backwards any more than it already does (so I am told). It has coaster brakes, though I doubt you will ever get to use them. You can get your money back in one afternoon of betting your friends they can't ride it. It is in a rough finish and not sanded down or painted yet. Guess you could say it is in it's "Proto-type Stage". Anyway, it is a complete bike with ballon tires. The backwards steering is accomplished by adding a second steering yoke and then using 2 same size gears that reverse the direction of the steering. An even better deal; if you can get on it, and in 30 seconds manage to ride it 10 yards without your feet touching the ground, I'LL GIVE YOU THE BIKE --- FREE."

How someone in Portland didn't think of this first...we'll never know.

{edit} Wait...scratch that. They probably already have but are riding in successfully. Like the bumper sticker says "Keep Portland Weird"

That's hilarious. I gotta get to Portland one of these days. I made it to OR for the first time this past summer and spent the time in and near Eugene. They have quite a bike culture there, too. The homeless live on bikes there. I saw one guy whose bike was towing a trailer, and that trailer was towing another trailer.

This was taken when my friends and I rode in the 2007 Portland Bridge Pedal, pretty much the most popular cycling event of the year. There's no Photoshop trickery in this image...straight outta my cellphone.

And this was just behind us! Needless to say...there were some traffic routing issues

Sorry, but I grew up in NYC and I still leave near it. You have more cyclists per capita, but we have more cyclists, by far. There's an annual called the five-borough bike tour that is so big, it's scary. For some people, it's the only time they get on a bike, which is pretty stupid in my view. It's a great place to fall and injure yourself, and it doesn't look like fun to me. I did it once over 20 years ago.

Theres so many silly ads here on craigslist and other local listings I don't even know what one to post. must be about nine or so posted a day, like the 200$ rusty supercycle road bike that came with flat tires and rusted stiff chain, or the lad who garbage picks road bikes and posts them for silly prices untouched with flat tires and other rusty pieces, I got no reply when I emailed him mentioning it... lol or the people who have a vintage bike and see what others like myself are selling them for but miss the part where some people restore them and are selling them like a new bike. while these others sell it with stiff bearings seized cables for 200$? theres a local "bike dump" here that is a riot. if I showed you what they charge for unrestored junkers youd think I was lieing or something, Donated bikes they get for nothing? then sell for 400$? this city has it all I could laugh all day.

Sorry for the odd rant but I really felt I had to say it, maybe i'll get some inside pictures of that bike place to share. lol

Yeah, that's the problem with the Bridge Pedal too. I don't call it a ride, more like a walk. 'Cause of situations like the one I photographed. It's a joke.
