The shifters are Campagnolo Ergos of some version. 8-speed, lower level that looks like Mirage due to the black shift lever. The photography is so poor they cut off the other shifter (with its inside view) thereby denying further identification.

Crikey!

For $250, I'd gladly rescue it (assuming it isn't a fake)

Hop in the car and head there NOW.
Even if the bike is 3 sizes too small.

Double check the S/N in the stolen bike registry.
And, perhaps bring a razor blade to cut that electrical tape off of the downtube. Something is strange with that.

And, carefully look for a Top Tube bend just behind the head tube. Again it looks a little suspicious.

If the frame is straight, that is one of those deals that rarely pop up.

If the frame is bent???
You could probably still part it out for 2x the asking price.

Here are some notes about the "Colnago Classic".
Colnago Classic Frames Reviews - RoadbikeReview.com
https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycli...o-classic.html

It was probably made in the early 2000's.

Columbus Zona tubing.

Not quite as sexy as the Master line of frames, but still quite nice.

I still think the bike likely has front end damage, but you won't know until one actually sees it.

I feel like this belongs here, I was at a pawn shop yesterday with a very impressive collection of old bikes (mostly cheap, a handful of decent cro-moly road bikes and midlevel newer mountain bikes, mostly lots and lots of junk). I got a tour from one of the employees, who told me that a particular mountain bike was really expensive because it was superlightweight and had "aluminum Titanic rims."

I think some sellers will park ads by messing with the price. So, looking at the 4 that were sold, 3 of them were sold for $151.90, almost exactly $1000 less than the asking price for the remaining bikes.

So, when the seller is ready to sell bikes again, simply remove that "1" from the beginning of the price.

No doubt, if they manage to sell one for 10x the value, there is a backup plan to acquire the stock.
And I think they do this so when the remove the "1" it says they are selling it at a discount of ~90%.

its funny because there are several of them on CL and most of them are overpriced at somewhere between 50-100$ - but then it starts to rise, $150, $300, on up to $500 for a varsity! you can get a heck of a bike for $500.
Speaking of expensive Varsitys, check out these two for $850. They have been posted for months.

I don't see them, but translation:

It is hard to tell. "Collectors" can go crazy about the strangest things.

But, looking at the guy's web page and other Craigslist ads, they all seem within reason, perhaps a bit low (by west coast standards) if he actually does a good job tuning. So those tires are really the anomaly.

Nonetheless, I've been surprised about things like vintage 5 spd Orange Crates in good condition.

There used to be one person that complained about people listing multiple bikes under "for sale by owner" around here. That seller Minneapolis seller may well be one of those that pushes the limits.

Offer the guy $10 for the pair.. and see if he bites.

Even if they are worth their weight in gold, the sidewalls are checking even before install. If actually ridden down the block they would look like any other set of old gum walls. Anyone spending $500 on these, needs a fur sink or an electric dog polisher.

That seller is typically not unreasonable in price, but occasionally has a Budget Bicycle Center moment.

Well, at least you an safely file that into the "not a Schwinn" category

Something looks a little not-Italian with the rear dropouts... so I'm guessing the frame is probably French, maybe a Peugeot.

You're the Peugeot expert

Any chance the fork would show up?

Get a couple of close-ups of the headtube lug, and you might be able to identify it, but maybe offer the guy $50 and see if he'll bite.

$50?! lol. $10 would be the most I'd offer for that frame if I was actually interested in it.

The existence of the fork really would make a big difference.

A good headtube shot would be nice, but it may well be an early PX-10, or similar frame. Reynolds 531, Simplex dropouts, Nirvex Pro Lugs.

It could be a pretty frame with a new coat of WHITE paint, black highlights, and some fresh decals.

Actually, thinking about the bike.

Something is off with the seat tube. It appears as if it takes a clamp which I'm having troubles placing.
