I asked the guy where he got his appraisal, he said somewhere local. I'm guessing they just told him what he wanted to hear.
Yeah, $35 would be about right, $350 would be too much even if it was still in the unopened factory box. The prices people put on old Grand Prixs are insane! I've been trying to find one for several years in my size, which this one is, for nostalgic reasons but refuse to pay the ridiculous prices. Had to "settle" for a pretty nice '85 Prestige to satisfy my Raleigh nostalgia. Still passively looking for a red 24.5 inch '71 Irish built Grand Prix frame though..........

Took the parts off a nice Grand Prix for my Dawes and don't figure it's even worth scrounging parts to build it back up to sell. Cost more to put wheels on it than it's worth.

*Slight NSFW warning*

$300 for a "badass" Schwinn Typhoon is already kinda wacky. Then I saw the tackiest and most extraneous feature I've seen on CL for a while.

1960s SCHWINN Klunker single speed (freewheel) custom cruiser 49cm - $300 (Plymouth (just off 394), MN)

https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/h...226740717.html

Professionally blasted and painted, completely rebuilt with new BMX cruiser parts and
a mix of old school parts, including Bulletproof cranks with Crank Skins and Winchester shell casing valve caps.

Anyone care to venture a guess as to what bike was ruined for this "restoration?" Aside from the immensely flattering photos, I see truncated cantilever bosses, an extremely long rear center (check out that chainstay length!), vertical rear dropouts that almost certainly preclude the ability to get proper fixie chain tension unless he experiments with chainring/cog sizes, etc. The way the chainstays bow behind the bridge make me think he actually used an '80s MTB like a Sierra or something similar.

Nearly unused restored roadbike - $200

And in late breaking news, I just could not stand it any longer and decided to say something.

https://richmond.craigslist.org/bik/...239246967.html

RE: VINTAGE 3 SPEED MEN'S CRESENT is bent

Caveat emptor. Okay, I didn't say anything when this bike was for sale months ago for $300, but the frame was bent then and it's bent now. Look at the profile photo and you can see the front wheel tucked back near the down tube. The top tube should be parallel to the ground but is raised at the front due the now-vertical inclination of the fork and head tube. In the shifter photo if you look past the handlebar you can see the chipped/cracked orange paint on top of the two frame lugs behind the head tube, a sure indicator of bent tubes resulting from a head-on impact. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, folks, but this otherwise nice little bike is badly damaged.

I couldn't help it anymore and I just had to put the seller in their place. So I wrote them a nice little note. Let's see if they change anything.

It's hard to tell for sure, but it looks like those might be 650c wheels, which could also explain why the bike only has <20 miles on it - it's an experiment gone wrong. (I should know, I've done that experiment.)

It does look like short horizontal dropouts, but it would benefit from a half link, or possibly removing a full double link.

ShortHorizontal.jpg

80's MTB frame for the rear, + Road Fork, probably 700c wheels.

The builder/seller sure didn't spare a lot of excess brake cable & housing. Brake rub?

Just your average bottom-of-the-line Raleigh ten-speed recently tricked out and now being sold for half a large. Lotsa pix, lots to admire.

Vintage Raleigh Touring | Road | Cruiser - $500 (The Fan)

condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: Raleigh
model name / number: Capri
size / dimensions: 58cm

This is a COMPLETELY redone 10 speed Raleigh Road bike for sale. I turned it into a cruiser just this week. I love it but I am 6-4 and just a little too tall for it. I just had the bike overhauled last week and it's in immaculate condition. Carytown Bikes did all the work and they did an exceptional job! See some details below:

•Brand new w/box Brooks Saddle
•Brand new Velo Orange handlebars
•Brand new Velo brakes and cables
•Brand new Planet Bike Eco bike rack
•Brand new Planet Bike Cork Grips
•Brand new Tourbon Waxed Canvas saddle bag
•Brand new tires
•Complete tune up of bike
•New chain
•Just waxed and polished.

I still have the original road bike handlebars and brakes which you can have.

Thanks for looking.
