I'm pretty sure they forgot the decimal point between the 4 and 5............ I hope so anyway. My Mom had one just like that 30 years ago and it was major piece of crap.

You should be able to pic up a fairly nice Grand Prix for around $200 or less in most major markets. I sold this one earlier this year for $200 and it didn't sell quick. Full Raliegh branded VX shift group, all alloy components and nice 700c alloy wheels properly built up and spaced for the bike with good tires.

I found lots of nice GP's for under $200 but no 25.5" in red and only a red one would do, my first "real" bike was a 1971 red 25.5" Grand Prix. I'm not in the market right now though as I have other projects in the works but someday........ someday.

I can see that the Deluxe Red was to my knowledge optional and one of the least common colours for these.

Yes it is, right bike, OK price, wrong time. I bought something else and the bike budget for this year has been spent and then some. Never fails.

An expired listing, but I own this Raleigh. It retailed for about $299. I got it at the LBS as a year-old closeout for about $200. The lister wanted $679.

Thanks for the post. I had a bet with a friend that Schwinn invented cantilever brakes in the fifties and this ad sealed my victory. Amazing the way those 60 year old composite pedals held up so well.

By far the crappiest pictures of a high-end vintage bike of the day here:

[h=2]Eddy Mercks 54cm bike - $675 (Spokane Valley)[/h]

I have an Eddy Mercks, 54 cm, Campy Chorus group, mid 1980's Columbus SL tubing, great ride, front chain rings 52-42. Rear cassette 8 speed, have 13/26 gears. Triathlon bars on it. Must sell due to my wife, she says I have too many bikes. 509-863-1425 or 290-5708 Jeff or Gail

It's no surprise how the Beaver could grab such righteous hang time in a 720.

...I'm glad they said "un-restored" in the text or I'd have had no idea. Oh, and he's keeping the handlebars, so pffffffft!! But it's a great father-son project, which could probably last until the son has a son and they could continue the project. Or ART! So much good material here. Ahhhh, Portland, how I love thee.

[h=2]PRE WAR HIAWATHA UN-RESTORED - $100 (SE)[/h]

Original Pre-war light blue and rust womens 18" bike. New departure hubs which roll-handle bars missing. Great father and son project, mom daughter, or ART. long 42" wheel base and rims are 24". Handle bars shown not included.
