Raleigh Professional 531 Frame - $275 (Central Square. Cambridge)

Date: 2010-08-02, 9:10AM EDT
Reply to: sale-4qrus-1876044168@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

Thought I'd run this through CL before Ebay.

1979 61cm Mark V Raleigh Professional frame in unique paintwork/decals livery.

Was originally made to order for a French Pro team in '79, it was one of 12 frames but they never took the order hence went to the public. Pros were usually blue in '79 and this is metallic gold with unique decals - there was a later option of a gold frame but that had different decals and this pre-dates that.

The frame so the usual paintwork scratches for its age but no dents, distortion or any damage. Beautiful lugs, full double buttered 531 tubing, Campagnolo dropouts front and rear plus cable stays.

Measurements are:
61 CM
57 CM TT

Comes with modern Campy Record headset but no bottom bracket, sorry...

It rides superbly. Really one of the classic all time frames. Make it a fixed gear, or road bike. This is a unique frame to be out on and a pleasure to ride.

Located in Central Sq.
Redline about 5 mins away and can meet there too.

Thanks!!

Pearl white slx columbus frame 32.5 standover height. Frame has some scuffs and a few scatches (22 years old )
Mostly Campagnolo record, mavic quick release. Seat post, crank and neck are pantographed w/ De Rosa
Mavic Open 4cd rims on campy hubs, newer continental tires 700x25c
Miche pedels included if you want them
600.00 is what I want for this bike, I'd rather keep it than take a lower price.
Bike can be seen evenings, Thanks

To be honest, this is likely just a flip for me...but De Rosas are pretty special...if someone here has a De Rosa as their grail bike, and intends to keep it...I'll send it to them for price paid and shipping as bike karma. I'm hoping I can work with the frame size, but probably not.

I also might strip it and try trading the frame for one that fits better...we'll see.

It is my size, you could go for extreme bike karma and just ship it to me. Wish I had the money.

I got itchy 'who's up for facilitation' fingers as soon as I saw the bike posted, as I'd consider a De Rosa one of the very select few names associated with my grail bike (that I've been on the hunt for now for 6+ months), however, the size squelched any hopes of having it for my own main rider. I'm a 54cm. So, that kills the deal.
I appreciate knowing the cycling karma is out there, though!

I've contacted the Ciocc seller and he's not at all flexible on price. It's not my size and not my dream bike.

Sellers words, "The frame measured center to top of top tube is almost 56cm and the top tube is 55cm and the stem lenth is 110mm."
Although a gorgeous CIOCC, as a 54cm'er, I can't do much about it.

Superb Original 1979 Raleigh Competition GS - $420 (Central Square, Cambridge)

Reply to: sale-bqnjr-1877284444@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

Amazing 1979 Raleigh Competition GS for sale!!

The bike is in incredible condition for it's age. Shiny, ultra clean drivetrain, rides perfectly. The chrome stays and forks are close to perfect. Has Continental tires and is ready to ride - I just did 13 miles on it yesterday. It has 531 tubing, frame and forks and aside from some touch spots the frame is shiny and clean. Touch parts are predominately on the cross tube.
Measurements are:

Seat-tube 59 cm center to top of top-tube, 58.25 cm center to center, 59.5 cm center to top of seat lug; Top-tube 55.5 cm center to center.

Please Google Raleigh Competition GS to research but you will fide it's a highly regarded frame and third from the top of line in Raleigh's cycle range in '79.
This s a much greater bike than the Grand Prix and Super Course, there's little comparison.

'GS' stands for Grand Sport and to that end it has entirely Campagnolo Grand Sport group fitments. The only exception was Weinmann brakes. These are sidepull and work great. It has original Weinmann concave rims, with Campy hubs.

Basically, everything is original aside from the NOS Benotto white handlebar tape I just put on and a newer model Brooks Pro saddle.

This bike has to be seen to be believed: they simply hardly exist in this condition.

Looking for $420.

Funny story

My grail bike is a Cannondale black lightning and I found one affordable on ebay in my size, I eagerly clicked and was about to hit buy it now wanting to beat any other possible buyer...

Thank God I slowed my shaking hands long enough to read the description thoroughly haha.

So sad

I suggest slowing down a bit. One quick glance at the bike, and its description, should have told you it wasn't your grail.

Varies...one on CL in DC is asking $580. A bit high IMO

More like one quick read of the title should have done the trick.

One of the nicer GPs I’ve seen on eBay for a taller rider, despite that HORRIBLE gel seat (can’t call it a saddle)…Very clean + Anniversary head badge.

True purpose built Schwinn Voyageur touring bike constructed of Columbus steel tubing. Components and frame in good condition. This bike was meant to do some serious long distance touring, has a full complement of mounts for fenders, racks and other touring necessities. Built exceptionally solidly, it rides very smoothly thanks to its long wheelbase and strong wheels. New tires and newer chain and rear derailleur. Please call Ken at 773-875-7607 to see it.
