I am tempted to get a touring bike of roughly this vintage to maybe convert to gravel... Just throw on the fattest tires it can handle and see what the fuss is all about.

Another possible gravel conversion. This one is in my size, but I'd prefer 700c wheels over 27" -yeah, yeah, the brakes have enough adjustability to swap in 700c wheels....

Regarding the Trek 720 -- that's too much money by X2 for the shape it's in. At least for my $$$. Shame, too, it used to be a nice bike. I see rusty spokes!??
