Scooper 07-25-09 04:22 PM

Scooper = S. Cooper (Stan)

20grit 07-25-09 04:27 PM

20grit= smooth as 20grit sandpaper.

i have a way with the ladies.

Gary Fountain 07-25-09 05:45 PM

I'm probably the only one that didn't pick my 'name'.

Rabid Koala 07-25-09 06:12 PM

I have been using my name for about 10 years. It started when I was on a chat where you did not log in-just pick a screen name. My wife had a bunch of stuffed koalas, so I told her I was the rabid one, and used that name in the chat room. The name just stuck.

roccobike 07-25-09 06:17 PM

Rocco is (was) the name of our favorite pet parakeet. He was a special pet with a great personality but he past on about a year ago. I borrowed his name and added bike.

Kommisar89 07-25-09 06:37 PM

My real name is Derrick. Kommisar Derrick was the star of a long running police drama in Germany so when I lived in Germany my friends started calling me Kommisar. I was last in Germany in 1989 so I used Kommisar89 as a screen name.

Not. I chose to use it here, but my parents gave it to me. If you want to alienate me, call me Chuck. Somehow, instinctively, people know that!

East Hill 07-25-09 06:43 PM

I took the easy way out and just put down where I live (on the East Hill of Kent, WA). Actually, my husband had used that name for something else, and I thought it simple and easy to remember. If I'd known that C & V was going to turn into my favourite forum, I probably would have gone with a username I've used elsewhere--Ms Mixte.

I could always ask to have it changed, but I've gotten used to East Hill :thumb: .

thompsonpost 07-25-09 06:49 PM

Just came into my head. It has no specific meaning, overt or hidden.

Ronsonic 07-25-09 07:02 PM

Stage name from back when I had hair and played guitars instead of just accumulating them.

USAZorro 07-25-09 07:22 PM

1994 World Cup message board... I wanted Zorro, but it was already taken. I noticed that one of the first questions asked was "Where are you from?". So... I worked Zorro in, and never had anyone need to ask me that question. I've been using it ever since - but I notice some scoundrel has appropriated it on youtube on me. :notamused:

redneckwes 07-25-09 07:36 PM

Because I never figured that there would be another tractor wrenching, half crazy, worn out jeep driving, rural American, part time farmer on a bicycle forum, and Wes is my middle name.

Panthers007 07-25-09 07:36 PM

I've been using Panthers007 for many years here & there. It's of a political nature that many folks know me by, so I saw no reason to change it. Even in this cycling venue. Just got a Panthers letter written up in a local news story about the city here wanting to allow cars to drive through a lovely park overlooking Lake Champlain. And park there, too! Morons - I tore them a new one.

Such is the nature of Panthers - and the press picked up my statement on this matter and repeated it on the front page. Seems the idiot behind this wants a real name or names of those opposing his insanity. I'm a writer, among other hats I wear, in case you didn't notice.

noglider 07-25-09 07:58 PM

See if you can figure out how I chose mine.

I use it as my login name on all forums and things like that.

nlerner 07-25-09 07:59 PM

Mine is nlerner because that's my login for just about everything, and the name's Neal Lerner, and I haven't figured out the value of having a mysterious avatar or on-screen persona.

Neal

Ex Pres 07-25-09 08:02 PM

I stole it from a 3-man time trial team that rode fixed in the AL state championships I ref'd one year. They called themselves Team Bob Barker.

Bob Barker always asked you to spay and neuter (fix) your pets.

muccapazza 07-25-09 08:07 PM

Neal, please explain your mysterious avatar. (picture under youyr user name.) (you usually have something interesting)

muccapazza 07-25-09 08:12 PM

Last name is bovine in nature, got a twisted kick out of the mad cow thing, had just repatriated from a stint in Italy, so chose the italian for mad cow disease. the ironic thing is my one italian bike was made in japan.

noglider 07-25-09 08:13 PM

nlerner, I prefer to use my real name, but that wasn't an option. I mean I wanted to use "Tom Reingold" with a space. I have that name on our town's local messageboard.

You were in a hang gliding accident, and said "i ain't gonna fly no glider no more?"

bibliobob 07-25-09 08:24 PM

I collect old books in addition to old bikes.

"Biblio" = book.

And, my name's Bob.

cb400bill 07-25-09 08:31 PM

He jumbled up the letters of his last name. Reingold became noglider.

The first part of my screen name is the model number of the best motorcycle I ever had, a 1976 Honda CB400. I just added my real name to the end.

I didn't either. Seems that anyone that I ride with ends up calling me "Luker". Real name is "Luke"...I used to race with a guy named David, and we'd locate each other in the pack..."Daaveeed?"..."Luker?"

We raced with a guy from Germany, and he'd always signal a launch off the front: "Ho, Ho, Ho!"

And another guy we rode with would sing Hendrix songs on the steep parts of the climbs...

Oh, yeah. People looked forward to racing with us.

soonerbills 07-25-09 08:50 PM

"SOONERBILLS"
Because I'm a Buffalo Bills loving Okie
......man am I lonely

Used this moniker for around 25 years or so and some business ventures..
everyone always calls me "Bill"
....I let them:D

Little Darwin 07-25-09 09:03 PM

Darwin is my first name, and was also my father's. Parents were divorced when I was very young, and a few decades later when I reconnected with my father's side of the family at a family reunion, I was called Little Darwin... Even though I outweigh dad by about 150 pounds.

I liked the irony of it, so I decided to use it as my login name.

Grand Bois 07-25-09 09:44 PM

I couldn't use my name because I might be mistaken for this guy:

http://www.kirkframeworks.com/

Dirtdrop is just the name of the stem I had just bought.

I was tempted to use Emmalee's Dad because that's how I was known to the kiting community.

smorris 07-25-09 09:59 PM

First initial + last name. Pronounced as one drawn out syllable, sorta like the campfire desert rather than two distinct ESS Morris sounds. I've been signing drawings (mechanical, I'm a draftsman/designer) like that since about 1969. First used the user name "digitally" on Cleveland Freenet in the early '80s, and on AOL way back when there were less than 25k members. It's my handle on every forum I'm on except one Subaru board, where it was already taken.

I always liked the Beatle's Come Together.

Also, it seemed to go nicely with the premade avatar's straw boater.
