I received my 5 lbs. of Oxalic Acid powder in the mail a few days ago.

Worth every penny.

got the OA! and filled a tub with hot water poured some (like 2 tablespoons, eyeball measure) into the water and put a ton of chrome stuff....been there like 16 hours now...saw it this morning no rust removal yet...so i put more hot water and another 2 tablespoons, see if that works during the day...

heres a list of what i put in:

brake levers
handle bar and stem
fender
wheels
rear fork
rear brake assembly
nuts bolts
fender holders
strange moulton kickstan
seat tube and seat hardware
screw clamps from the seat

still many parts to go...

this came from a 1965 moulton...

now i wait...hopefully when i get home rusty pieces have de-rusted.

edit: NYC what are you restoring???

now to look for a good metal wax....i only found sears turttle wax for cars...not sure that works.

Wait. So you haven't showered in 2 days for the love of your bicycle? AWESOME! lol

As far as what i'm restoring. A few things, nothing spectacular. I picked up a 1978 Peugeot PA10 (Believe thats what it is?) from the original owner a few weeks back and it's dirty and has lots of patina, and some.

So i've taken apart the wheels to let them soak in OA a day or so, stripped the bike down to just a frame. I am going to soak a few parts, bolts, etc.

I also have a few items in the garage that are non-bike related that I could use with OA. Just have to find a big enough bin to drop all the stuff into.

Just so you Know... Your body produces Oxalic acid inthe Krebs Cycle. Many plants (Wood Sorrel) contain large amounts ... Thats why they're sour! (Oxalis is the sorrel genus name!) Ule Gibons probably would've cleaned HIS bike with it!... but I digress. If "Nature" Disdained acid so much, then why the f is it in almost all living things.

TOOOOOOOO many semesters of Plant Biochem
