1984 Hon (DaHon) Convertible information

Hi guys, trying to sell this - but willing to consider if anyone can give me more information...this bike is like new...but if I keep it, not sure I can fix it if I make it my commute bike....also how much would this go for?

Its a Hon (before they become DaHon) 1984 Convertible, 3 speed Sturmey Archer Internal Hub with 16".

Amy

I've got an nearly identical one, but an 87 Dahon. Same color though! It's a fun little bike and as long as you maintain it and properly adjust the hinge and hub, it'll be a fine commuter for short distances. They aren't worth much at all. $75-100 if you're lucky (less on ebay!), so enjoy it or sell it cheap to someone who will. I love mine, it's a blast to ride!

Since it is a HON before the name change, it might be worth a little more, but probably not. Only the stainless models bring any money.

I wish I could find two more junkers of these because I have a notion to make a Dahon Classic Folding Longtail (XTraCycle) out of them just for shots and wiggles.

I hate you. I have an obsession with xtracycles (but can't afford a real one) and I had a matching pair of Dahons, but sold one. Dammit!!!! That's a brilliant idea!

Got a very similar one at a swap meet last spring for $20. I putted around on it a bit this summer because my foot was busted up, and finally realized the forks are bent. It rides wobbly as hell. Everything about this bike seems dangerous - well, at least the steering and brake (mine just has the rear drum).

Nevertheless, it's fun on slow crowded pedestrian trials or sidewalks. It makes me want a better one.

Wouldn't it be a cool bike?! Not very practical, but the cool factor gauge would peg out.

I wonder what the geometry would be like to have a Dahon front end with a 26" back end? Kind of a jacked up mini longtail.

You can make a longtail from one folder plus a 20" rear triangle (from a 20" "full suspension MTB"). A 16" wheel with a coasterbrake IGH could be fine in the 20" triangle. I am making a 20" longtail folder at the moment.

Gave my Dahon classic to a friend two weeks ago. It was a fun bike when that was my only folder, but since I got many it kind of lost its fame..
