Need Help with rim size

I have an old Schwinn Collegiate frame and want to put 26x2.125 tires on the bike, but don't know what rim size to get...

I would like to find a reasonable rim/hub/spoke combo (less than $150), wheelset if you will, that will fit these tires. Please recommend me some wheels. I have been searching and haven't found any definitive answers about what size to purchase.

Thanks,

Ken

What is the tire diameter in millimeters? It should be listed on the side of the tire, and it's probably 597. Popular 26" wheels have 559 mm tires, so that's a nearly 1-1/2" difference. It might be possible to make this work, but you may have to change your brake calipers.

You may be better off replacing the bike.

559 is the rim size for those tires but you will not find brakes with long enough reach to work with them. If you are doing a brakeless fixed gear it might work. Roger

Right, but brakeless fixed gear is also brainless.

I don't have brake calipers nor to i plan on getting them. I would like to find an inexpensive wheelset with just a coaster brake that will fit a 26x2.125 (559mm) tire. So what rimsize will fit this tire?

Sorry I am a huge noob when it comes to tire/rim size.

Yes, those wheels will accept the tires you want. Do you realize that the rear wheel is a coaster brake wheel? I.e. you pedal backwards to apply the brake.

Yeah it's only going to be a cruiser. Hit up the local grocery store and bars....it came with a coaster brake to begin with...i don't feel like spending additional money on a brake set-up and don't really want the clutter/complications of cables..
