Bikes: yikes, too many

Caught me a Zunow

EDIT: NEW PHOTOS ON NEW POST

I have been looking for some time and was lucky enough to find one of these for sale on Craigslist (many miles away). I arranged for the seller to drop it off at a LBS and I would forward a check and he released the bike to ship when he received the check. Worked like a charm.

In any case, it is a "beautiful" Zunow Z1 in excellent condition (beauty is in the eye of the beholder). There are a couple of small chips around but other than that the paint and bike are immaculate. There is a hodgepodge of components but most are good. I believe the drive train is early Chorus but none of the catalogs exactly match what the parts look like.

The Zunow has some great details which all show when I have time to take photos with a proper camera. for now these bad photos will have to due.

I think it is time for me to get rid of these "cheesy" Italian components and get this 80s baby (named "Crockett") outfitted with some proper Japanese components. I am thinking Suntour Superbe Pro or Dura Ace AX but leaning towards Superbe Pro. I'll probably be putting these components up for trade in the near future. The wheels are nice MA2 laced to Suntour Cyclone with spokes with a"P" on them. Any idea what those are?

Here are the bad photos...

DA AX + a neon Turbo saddle and you'll be in weird 80s heaven.

Those brake calipers look like Athena, so you may want to reference some Athena pics for ID purposes.

That's a great catch. Zunow is on my short list of desired frames as well. I'd go with Superbe Pro for the build myself, but DA AX would look pretty sweet, too.

Oh yeah, love the Modolo Kronos levers! Snap!

Beautiful, you don't see many of these around here. I love the paint.

I have a NOS bright yellow selle italia turbo cover that would be perfect for that one!

Haha, I just noticed your screen name and title.... your avatar should be cut-off shorts!

I love the look of Dura Ace Ax but Superbe Pro just works so right. I have never used Sante.

Ohhh my...

I'm happy with my bikes, but my dream is to have 1 bike from each respective country... Zunow is very high on my list.

Bikes: Motobecane Mirage fixed gear, Nashbar Alpha Road 5000, Bianchi Grizzly, Coppi Fiorelli, , Schwinn Trike, , GT All Terra, Old Peugeot, Nishiki 3 speed, Bugatti, Cannondale Black Lightning, Dura All, Bianchi Touring, Bridgestone T700 & more

Love it! On my short list of must haves too...As far as components I'd go with Superbe Pro as well. As much as I love the stuff I think the pearl off white of the Sante' group would look odd on such a bright bike.

Nice score! I'm extremely jealous!

I seem to remember that "performance" brand (mail order catalog & retail shops) had thier own line of spokes made that had a "P" on the head. Performance also hand built and sold a lot of wheelsets, I seem to recall that MA2's on a sprint hubset was one of their off the shelf combos.

Interesting. I don't remember Performance back in the late 80s/ early 90s. Did they exist. These hubs are Cyclone suntour and they feel silky smooth.

I have a Performance frame with Suntour Superbe drop outs waiting to be built with the right components.

Anybody has any ideas on who the frame maker was?

And yes, that Zunow is nice!

Performance spokes (I still have a stash) were reportedly made by Asahi in Japan, who reportedly also made them for Wheelsmith...perhaps others, too.

gratulations on your Zunow! What a great colour, a Zunow that doesnt give you eye cancer when you look at it is like a Colnago without chrome

Take your time picking the right pieces for it, a Suntour, a Mavic, a Shimano, a Campa... everytihng will fit!

LBS has a full Superbe group for sale, but it is first-gen; earlier then appropriate for this frameset.

Beautiful condition, especially the top tube cable guides, they can be a problem area, as with mine.
