Shogun Information
Hey guys/gals,
I recently picked up a Shogun frame/fork/handlebars from a friend of mine and am looking for some information. I'm planning on turning it into a singlespeed/fixie using a flip flop wheel for toolin around town.
Since it is just the frame/fork and no other components(or decals for that matter), I was hoping y'all would be able to give me some measurements so I know what parts to get for the build. ie, BB axle width, possible cranks to use, or any build suggestions in general. I already know it has 126mm dropouts, and I assume a 26.8 seatpost, but that's about all I know. I also assume it had 27" wheels, but again I am not sure.
I'm gonna try and test the front calipers and wheel from my modern roadie to see if it will accept the recessed mounting and if the brake pads will have enough adjustment for 700c wheels. For the rear wheel I'm not totally sure what I'll go with just yet, so any suggestions would be much appreciated if any of you have made this conversion.
Here's some actual specifics:
Serial # M3M06512
has a sticker on the seat tube that says Tange 900 cro-moly(if that can help determine the model)
Thanks in advance and any help would be HUGE. I'll try and snap a pic or two tonite if I have a chance.

Circa 1983/1984. Like most most manufacturers, Shogun made multiple models from a single frame by varying the components. If it does not have brazed-on down tube shifters, it is a 300 or 400, in which case the wheels are 27". If it has brazed-on down tube shifters it may be a 550 or 600. Bottom bracket will be English threaded, but the spindle length will depend on the chosen crankset and hubs, to establish the correct chainline.

Thanks T-Mar. I guess The first thing is to source wheels and a hub and go from there for the rest of the components.
It does have the brazed on lugs for downtube shifters. I noticed last night it had a bit of the "12 speed" decal remaining on the right chainstay, so i'm assuming it was a double with 6 speed cassette.
It's a nice frame, and i cant wait to build it and post pics of my progress.

as far as the singlespeed conversion goes, does anyone have any particular pars they can recommend as far as the drivetrain and wheels are concerned? I come from the modern road cycling side and am not too familiar with track or vintage components. thanks
Jay
