Bikes: 25 at last count. One day I'll make a list

A Huffy from a dark time capsule....

That was supposed to say Murray
Ok here's one I found while doing some work for a guy who runs a small machine shop here in Tulsa...
I spied it in a storage room that was full of all kinds of junk. I asked if he wanted to get rid of it and he say's they were gonna throw out whatever was in the room out as it all had been there for years...nobody wanted it and they were gonna start putting parts in there and needed the room....take what ever you want!

It's friggin giant sized!! It looks like it was never ridden.... and hardly any rust! The thing is covered with tons of oil and dust.... from the machine shop I guess.
I always thought Murray was a bottom feeder but I don't know where to place this...

It's got a lugged frame but also alloy rims mounted on steel hubs?
A cotterless Sugino thats actually steel?
Suntour drivetrain but I nevver heard of a "U" model?

I just dont know what thos this is....

Well. Actually. You have a Murray. Not a Huffy.

This Murray looks decent. Alloy Araya rims, alloy stem, entry Suntour components, Dia Compe brakes. Better than lots of Schwinns of that era. The tires are shot, btw, you cannot ride them as are...

Nice catch!

Pretty neat. I guess it would be placed high in the Murray line but still lower than a bike shop offering. I think it's interesting that the frame is lugged and the drop outs are still crimped into place.

The name cracks me up, and those grips are the best.

They are something ain't they?

And the dropouts? I don't get that. Why stop there?

Tough choice...

-If you know someone (tall) in need who could use it, give it to them (good karma)
-the brand (and the condition of the tires) would severely hurt flipping
-IMHO the wheelset (27 inch Araya alloy) is the most valuable thing about the bike and will get you more money than the whole bike probably...

your call

I guess it was probably less expensive for them to use that process since they already had the equipment in place. Besides, I doubt that anyone buying a Murray noticed that sort of thing anyway.... so it would not have really benefited them anyway.

I guess they went with the things customers looked for.

+1 Most of the parts, including the Suntour stuff are too low end to be worth much by themselves. It wouldn't bring much cash as a flipper either if you plan on selling it ride ready. I think your best bet, financially speaking, is to spit shine it and post it on craigslist. Just make sure the buyer knows that it needs tires and such.

Somebody once before brought up the question of a "better quality" Murray bike on the forum ... guess this answers that. Compared with the rest of their product offerings, this sucker rocks!

The Marantz tuner dates from about 1975 and the Technics amp from about 1980.

The Marantz tuner dates from about 1975 and the Technics amp from about 1980.

Thanks!
I found both to be in working condition... the tuner needs a new light bulb on the display and the amp needed a new fuse and some control cleaner...

I found the Marantz tuner/amp to be the coolest acquisition from that room....

Bikes: 1988 Schwinn Circuit. Bike-Boom-Puegeot. First "real bike" Trek 720 Hybrid in gross disrepair.

CITATION! Best bike name ever.

I wonder if they also had a "Parking Violation" bike that year. Is that bike 65cm or bigger?

Also the dropouts are unbelievably hideous as someone mentioned. Clean it up and sell it to a tall dude who appreciates (relatively) high-end low-end stuff.

It looks to be about the same size as a few of my bikes- about 63 cm.

And yes, I would describe myself as "a tall dude who appreciates (relatively) high-end low-end stuff."

This is the perfect Donor set of wheels for a better frame! The "crimped-in-place" dropouts dont even compare to your bottom of the barrel, entry level Raleigh, Peugeot, or any Japanese bike! The rims appear to be alloy- a significant mprovement for any entry level bike. With repacement hollow axles and a set of skewers installed this could make a a decent set of wheels if true and straight. The rest of the machine is marginal, the brakes being basic entry-level OK. But the derailleurs will shift ever so slightly better than entry level Huret/Schwinn approved or Simplex Prestige, but are easily improved upon in any old parts bin. Just my $.02

I would be serious if I didn't have a conscience.... ummm... wife.... to guide me away from such follies. Otherwise I'd be overrun with bikes (I mean worse than I already am). In other words, I think I'll pass on this one. Unless you want to give it aw-. No, I really shouldn't. The wife would give me too much guff if I got this one.

Clean it up and sell it on CL for $50. It's worth at least that much, even a Murray.

Why do you think I opened a bike shop? I needed the extra space!

Is that a new venture? If so, congrats and good luck.
