I stand corrected. The covers on the brake handles threw me off.

Bikes: Two wheeled ones
I generally think mixtes look like mongoloid mutants manufactured in a lab and belong chained up out of sight in the basement, but that's not an entirely unattractive bike. I can think of some other chanukah gifts I'd prefer...like the 50th anniversary bike on ebay right now. Of course I'd settle for a watch....even digital.

Beautiful bike.
In 1974 or '75 I rode a Raleigh International and read about soldering spokes. I built up an identical rear wheel and soldered up the spokes. The wheel was much harder, in fact too hard for regular day riding, but I saved it for loaded touring, to save my "good" wheel.

Don't want to hijack the thread so I'll start one with the subject Tied and soldered spokes in the Clydes Forum.

It's pretty crazy. And it's not even clean.

I agree a very beautiful bike. but it is very dirty in the corners.
the lugg work is undiscribable it is certainly craftsmanship that is unlikely to adorn any bike again.

That jury-rigged derailleur isn't exactly a beauty, either. And aren't the crank and spindle odd? The cross section of the spindle looks like a 3/4 round, and there's some sort of "cotter bolt" holding it on.

An early design, and as the seller, said, "very cool". Not so cool if you need to find replacement parts, though.

Oh my, the bike went for $2,175.
Good thing it is not my size, or I would have been pulling my hair out and weeping, or cooking up schemes for how to afford it!
BTW, those who wanted to see closeups - the person selling it has some excellent photos on flickr:

Pretty bizarre, but it's nice to know that several people value that sort of workmanship. As I said in another thread, curly Hetchinses are not to my taste, but I respect the handiwork.
