This thread is weird.

I downsized and am down to 3 Frejus commuters. Same supercorsa model - two mid-late 60' (copper & baby blue and one late 50's - green one). Pics from my humble collection.

They all ride a little differently - two ride with tubulars, the green one is the rain bike since it's a little heavier. Mostly suntour superbe set ups. I assume that triples count - eventhough years may vary somewhat. They all have the classic oil ports. I am easy to spot in Philly since I now only ride frejus.

Hmmm, . . . I was expecting to see a lot more Paramounts, Continentals, and Italian twins.

People have mentioned several reasons for "simultaneous lovin' "

1) Same model set up for different kinds of riding
2) Same model ridden by multiple members of family
3) Multiple colors - collect them all!

Any other motivations for accumulating twins, triples, quadruplicates, quintiplets of a particular bike?

This reminds me of a phenomenon that seems to occur in things other than bicycles too: Has anyone else had the experience, that as soon as you find an amazing product that blows everything else out of the water in terms of value, it's doomed to fail in the marketplace and will soon be discontinued/replaced with something woefully inferior? This might be a good reason to own more than one of some thing.

how 'bout human nature; once you know about the bike, you're more likely to pay attention when one is for sale...and, then the odds are good that sooner or later you'll find that deal you can't pass up or whatever....

- I got a 2nd LeTour because the 1st one got creaky and so I will move parts from one to the other as a back-up commuter or joy ride bike
(so, in theory I can get ride of the 1st one)


- I got the 2nd GT MTB cuz the 1st one was too small
(so in theory I can get rid of the 1st one)

I'll soon have 2 Fuji S10-S. Why? They are the most comfortable bike I have ridden and I will use them at two locations. The first will probably stay where I live. The second will most likely go to my parents' house for when I drive down to visit.

I too have 3 Black Raleigh Competitions, All 3 1973ish with Annnn Serial numbers, Capella lugs, Huret Jubilee, TA, Brooks B17s. I've owned one since new and I bought the other two on eBay this Spring. The two I bought are good to excellent, but the only one I ride is my original one, while I decide what to do with my all my Booty. Out of the 3 of them I only have one pair of original Tubular wheels and one pair of original pedals, but pretty much everything else is there on all three. Also only one of the 3 TA cranksets has original French-threads to go with the original pedals. I personally molested my Crank to accept English pedals in the mid 70's, but the 3rd one (and earliest Serial number) looks like it may have always been English.

OK, folks, I know I'm super weird, but it never really occurred to me to have two of the same model. I don't think there's a perfect bike for me, and I'm not seeking it. I love my bikes for the unique characteristics they have. For example, if I'm riding a nimble bike, I love its nimbleness, and if I'm riding a stable bike, I'll love it for its stability.

I'll look around, and perhaps I do have more than one in a particular model. But I don't think so.

I oughta make a web page depicting and describing my fleet. The five bikes I call my own are fairly different:

~1990 Cannondale M700 mountain bike
~2007 Surly Cross Check
2008 Generic fixed gear bike
1971 Raleigh Super Course

I do have two Varsities, but they are strictly flipper bikes. They're not my size, so I can't call them my own. I haven't ridden them once. I had a flipper Varsity in my size, and I thought I would keep it, but I didn't like the way it rode.

You want I should photograph the Varsities to qualify to post in this thread?

Oh, and you don't know half of my weirdness. It goes a long, long way.

That purple S-10S is nice.

A neighbor of mine has his old S-10S in my basement for now. I'm using it to teach him how to fix bikes, because he wants to get into bike repair.

But it does appear to be a pleasant weird, despite your penchant for sharing details of personal hygiene.

Oh that. I had forgotten about that. There's more of my soul I inadvertently shared on my local message board. I've become a celebrity in my town, and that's weird, too. People come up to me and say, "You're Tom Reingold! The real Tom Reingold!" and I don't know them at all. Some people think I'm creepy. Oh well.

You are kind of creepy... but in that nice victrola cranking, victorian barber riding a boneshaker kind of way!

Oh, and if you don't have that desperate bicycle hoarding sickness that makes you have duplicates of EVERYTHING... you're lucky. I am so bad, I buy 10 pairs of the exact same shirts at the same time. I even have 25 of the same art deco 1930's clocks in my clock collection.

How many of you bicycle twin owners are twins yourself?
I have an '84 Centurion & '84 Peugeot and have been casually looking for an '84 Italian and an '84 English. Twins don't run in my family.

We have 35 bikes in our garage and basement, so I definitely am a collector. But I only crave one of each kind. The trouble is that there are so many kinds!

Can I test ride one of those to Chicago?
