apollo sport 10?
Hi,
I came across an apollo sport 10 on craigslist for 50 bucks and was wondering if anybody has had experience with these bikes. For 50 dollars, it seems like a pretty good deal to me. I'm looking for something to commute on and maybe fix up a little, if it's worth it. Can't find much info on these though- don't even know what the frame is made of? help, plz?

The Apollos I have seen are not worth much. Without a picture, I am not going to guess. Unless the frame is marked with a decal stating frame material, you can just about assume it is gas pipe or high ten steel (bottom end). I would keep looking, unless you are in one of those super hot markets.

Apollo bikes were made by Kuwahara and cover the gamut from entry level bikes (like the Sport 10) to high end road bikes and touring bikes that used high quality tube sets and top of the line groupos.
I have seen some 80's models that were equipped with Dura Ace / Crane groups that are exceptionally nice bikes.
When Kuwahara branched off into making mountain bikes they retained the Apollo badge for a little while and once they became established the Apollo name was dropped from their mtb's and they started marketing mountain bikes and road bikes under the Kuwahara name.
The Sport 10 is an entry level model that will have a straight gauge frame, steel wheels, and entry level components and might be compared to the Miyata 100 which is slightly better but not by much.

Nice entry level bikes...
Nice entry level bicycle. Well made and cleanly finished. Not a bad ride for the quality level and it even has a head badge.
I sold a few of these bikes and have earned as much as $150.00 for a bike. If yours is in good condition, $50.00 is a pretty good price. Congrats and keep the rubber side down.

Bikes: Vintage Japanese Bicycles, Tange, Ishiwata, Kuwahara
Built in Japan by Kuwahara and, sold in Canada. Most were equipped with Suntour components, Sugino crankset, Araya wheels. Very similar to stuff Fuji was making at the time. Old Japanese bikes are the best. Hang on to it.
