I posted some photos of my co-workers chrome 1965 Raleigh Sport over in the appraisals section but I thought it would be nice to show it off here as well.

Beautiful chrome! Is that one of those hybrid gearing conversion kits?
I spotted a pair of DL-1s on CL, but I can't get a response from the seller. This is the second time posted, the first time was perhaps a month ago, same thing, I emailed and no response. Anyone ever had something like this happen? Any hints?
If I can't get through due to spam filter or something, maybe I can at least play matchmaker in case folks here may not have seen this. Here's the listing: https://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/bik/2662601668.html
Good luck folks!

Nice Saddle
I like that saddle on that bike. Does anyone know if those came with leather saddles or just always white vinyl? I found one with the latter in a scrap bin and am having a hard time with the thought of changing out the original, superior (and sympathetic) though a B72 may be.

Raleigh Sports and Superbe came with leather seats and Raleigh pattern rims; cheaper ones, including all the non-Raleigh badged ones, did not. If a bike has plain Dunlop Endrick rims, it probably came with a mattress saddle.
No doubt someone will point out exceptions to the rule. They exist. I can think of at least one myself. But I'm not changing what I said.

Westrick
... and I see this bike has westrick rims. OK, thanks!
What about the difference between S22, DL22 and DL24... something about Sports, Deluxe, Superbe that I read about on a thread from nlerner or cudak888? Were all Sports offered in all three options, and what changed between them?
I read something there too about high-volume dealers having access to the chrome ones. (By the way, is this an OK thread for questions of history and provenance? Or more just appreciation?)
The one I speak of is in too sad a shape to post pics at the moment especially so soon after these nice shots. The chrome is badly pitted and will be evermore. But it's still better as a bike than an ingot...

So, does anybody know the story behind the all-chrome "Boss Bikes"? Dealer promos? Special order? Contest giveaways? Reward for top selling dealers? I've heard several different stories about them.

I'm out of my league here, however the shifter lever says "Cyclo" on it. My co-worker is the original owner and bought it at a shop in CT. He had the conversion done at purchase....
I'm surprised I haven't had more of a response to my inquiry on the appraisal thread, anybody want to chime in over there?

Hello,
Would anyone know where I can find a set of nuts and bolts that attaches the rear fender and rear rack to the frame? It's goes right behind the rear dropout. This is for an old 72' Raleigh Sports.
Thanks.

Stainless would be the nicest way to go and nuts and bolts keep the original look... using a lock nut will ensure that they stay secure no matter how rough the roads get.

A fully chromed Sports is far from ordinary and believe it could easily fetch $400.00 plus if it was in good condition.

Can you help me identify this Raleigh? A friend of mine is thinking about selling it and as you know, I'm looking to buy a 3-speed. Never saw this color though, is this a "Sport"? He believes it is a '69 / '70 model year.

The model name should be on the chain guard, so a photo from the other side would confirm it.

This is the 1958 Huret Alvit - sold by the thousands and thousands and the first successful mass market parallelogram derailleur.

Huret Svelto - An economy model that works well over a narrow range cog.

Huret Jubilee... considered a grail item as it is one of the lightest derailleurs ever made with a toothed guide pulley.

There are many other examples of non toothed pulleys... this horrible little thing was made by Campagnolo and only has one jockey wheel.

Images courtesy of disraeli gears: https://www.disraeligears.co.uk - this is a brilliant resource if you seek info on derailleurs.
The Cyclo Benelux Mark 7 that came with their 2 and three speed conversion kits... it was an older pull chain model that use a helical spring to provide lateral movement and had a toothed guide pulley and a nearly round tension pulley.

Very cool & thanks for the link! Fun to see the pull chain on the last one, that looks so much like a SA indicator chain!
I remember seeing derailleur 3-speeds in France and I wonder now if they had round pulleys. But that is maybe a topic for the French 3-speeds page!
